I understand that Chrome has chromify-osd, an extension that lets it use notify-osd for notifications. Is it possible to customize it such that it works for Firefox as well?
It is done. :)
You have syntax highlighting enabled and moderators can configure the setting for individual tags from their respective tag wiki info pages. The default is "none".
For more info on the finer points of syntax highlighting, see here.
It is possible due to the work of George Edison,
To install click the following links
Install Greasemonkey
Install ChromifyOSD Greasemonkey Script
Run this command
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnotify.so.4 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnotify.so.1

So, correct me if I'm wrong.

You can try tracker-search . It is available in the software-center.
To install it, run the following command in a terminal:

After installing it, search for Desktop Search in the dash and open it. You can then search for the files and folders in the search ba...
I think an explanation for the stats is that the system is partially broken. Compare StackOverlow to AskUbuntu. On AskUbuntu, you can have a newbie asking questions about some weird hardware configuration and why s/he can't install something, and it might be something even an experienced Ubunti...

@JorgeCastro It's actually not nvidia's fault at all (well, except it was a real mission to disable nouveau - which is a mess at the moment on the livecd)... dmraid was my final issue. It just wouldn't load my disks which is (obviously) pretty fatal.
Sweet, I'm about as hireable as anyone else then - I know Linux (sorta), I know Ruby, the language behind chef (which everyone supposedly uses), and I know enough about other things to be dangerous. #goodcareermove

I'm very disappointed about the sound quality on music when using Ubuntu 11.10 compared to Windows 7.
I use Audacious (Winamp on W7) and no matter how much I decrease the volume slider it's still giving me distorted sound and it's so annoying.

And, obviously the reason I am here is for support! If no one knows, i'll ask on the site.... do you know if it is possible for apt-get to get corrupt? ... I installed media-wiki from apt-get as a test, but, I never used it, then I tried to remove it... it didn't really work... but now this happened -
well, nothing really that bad, it is just the default config and stuff has mediawiki virtual directory e.t.c. I need to muck around with rewrite rules and configs and would rather just have a completely blank setup
I was doing a package removal with apt-get remove but then realized I should have done a --purge along with it to remove the configuration files.
Can I remove the packages configuration files easily or do I need to reinstall the package and then remove with a --purge?
i have a nvidia quadro nvs 295 driving dual monitors at work, and have used this for a while. recently, i was lucky enough to poach a 3rd monitor. but, this meant that i needed another video card to drive the new monitor, as the nvidia only has 2 ports (video ports).

@RolandTaylor that's cool... so, it has a database of everything, if you do remove but it has configs, it leaves it in a residual config state... guess there must be a switch to filter or similar from command line
as long as I know it isn't corrupt! I'm happier! Thought I mucked something up... Anyway, +1ed your answer!
I have a computer that has 10.04 installed on it. When I download something off the internet, NotifyOSD displays to say the download is complete (Firefox is using NotifyOSD).
I'm using 11.04 on another computer. When Firefox finishes downloading something it displays the "Firefox notifier" that...
