@JorgeCastro:
It's part of the post editor script we're rewriting.
Still a work in progress though.
oh cool
so you're basically just redoing that guy's thing?
Yup.
But it's on GitHub so others can help.
oh was the first one not available?
The original one?
I don't think it specified a license.

That and the fact that it was originally written for Safari.
That thing is taking forever to load... how big is it?

Q: How to make Firefox use chromify-osd?

jokerdinoI understand that Chrome has chromify-osd, an extension that lets it use notify-osd for notifications. Is it possible to customize it such that it works for Firefox as well?

George! Please save the world.
i will give you bounty rep.
I'm just heading to bed. Please remind me tomorrow and I'll see what I can do.

A: Is there a equivalent sofware to Everything search engine (Windows) on Ubuntu?

Bob BeanDesktop Search from Ubuntu Software menu install then run with alt f2 Menu appears to run apps -> file find -with in menu

Spruce up the answer?
Right, that was the answer I had a problem with yesterday.
I have no idea what exactly he is trying to say.
I can understand what he is saying.
There is an application 'Desktop search' from software-center.
09:42
Right so far so good.
Install it and run with Alt + F2.
to run apps, search for it in the search bar.
If you understand the answer you can go for it and edit. :)
i have the software installed in my computer.
Not sure how it got in though.
The thing is the apt link for the software is actually tracker-search.
And when I see my edit, it totally doesn't match with the original answer.
askubuntu.com/search?q=vnstat < -- are they all dupes?
I'm trying to find a bug on LP about that visual glitch.
There was a bug related to that. But it had a blue tint of colour at that area.
09:47
@jokerdino Some might be dupes, we might have to work through them one by one.
I'm going to file a new bug.
Right, against what project though. :P

Bob BeanYou can try tracker-search . It is available in the software-center. To install it, run the following command in a terminal: sudo apt-get install tracker-gui After installing it, search for Desktop Search in the dash and open it. Looking back, I should have just wrote my own answer. @.@
Nah, that was a very good example of leading by example.
When the user checks back he'll see how a good answer should look like and with some luck he will try to mimic that in his next answer.

A: Should we have an Ask Ubuntu Beginners event?

C SI think an explanation for the stats is that the system is partially broken. Compare StackOverlow to AskUbuntu. Jo-Erlend SchinstadYou can open Keyboard shortcuts and create a new shortcut. Run the command killall -u yourusername gnome-session.

Is it ok to do a minor formatting edit?
If it improves the answer sure.
I'm not a fan of the minor edits are bad idea.
I see that Jo has reached 10k.
How do I append a notify-send "Done" to every command that I run in the terminal?
Without manually doing it.
10:53
Write a wrapper script that will run what command you want and display a Done notify message based on the returned exit value.
It'd be like wrapper some-command
It could get ugly with the quoting of parameters.
11:27
Those kinds?
I have very little experience in bash scripting. So, I will get to it later.

@JorgeCastro It's actually not nvidia's fault at all (well, except it was a real mission to disable nouveau - which is a mess at the moment on the livecd)... dmraid was my final issue. It just wouldn't load my disks which is (obviously) pretty fatal.

Q: Ubuntu 11.10 vs Windows 7 music quality

AbraKdabraI'm very disappointed about the sound quality on music when using Ubuntu 11.10 compared to Windows 7. I use Audacious (Winamp on W7) and no matter how much I decrease the volume slider it's still giving me distorted sound and it's so annoying. I tried the PulseAudio Equalizer as I read but it get...

And, obviously the reason I am here is for support! If no one knows, i'll ask on the site.... do you know if it is possible for apt-get to get corrupt? ... I installed media-wiki from apt-get as a test, but, I never used it, then I tried to remove it... it didn't really work... but now this happened -
Opinion, and will draw opinion (already has).
@RolandTaylor No ... TROLL! Windows +1! :P
jrg

Voted.
@WilliamHilsum why are you removing apache O.o?
You will ruin a lot of things if you do that.
14:19
@WilliamHilsum ok so what's the problem there?
Oh nvm, I see.
@RolandTaylor because it was a test VM and I wanted to bring it back to scratch if it was possible rather than reinstall ubuntu
There's no problem there. Apache-2.2-common is not installed, so you can't remove it.
@RolandTaylor ... I will be installing it again, but, I think Mediawiki did something funky during the install, so, want to just isolate it.
@RolandTaylor why is it there when I do tab on "apt get remove"?
What did it do?
14:22
I think autocomplete isn't that smart
I think it just fills in what packages are there
wether it's installed or not
@WilliamHilsum because pressing tab shows all available packages in the catalogue
oh, what Jorge said :D
well, nothing really that bad, it is just the default config and stuff has mediawiki virtual directory e.t.c. I need to muck around with rewrite rules and configs and would rather just have a completely blank setup
ah
you need to purge the config files
sudo apt-get remove --purge mediawiki
the --purge removes all the config files it put, the virtual directory stuff, etc.
14:24
ok, i'll try that, thanks
is it too late to do if I already removed media wiki? :(
that's a good question
I've never thought of that
guess it isn't too late
... I am going to reinstall Ubuntu when I get a chance though and then just take a snapshot... would be quicker than mucking around like this

Q: Can I purge configuration files after I've removed the package?

Jorge CastroI was doing a package removal with apt-get remove but then realized I should have done a --purge along with it to remove the configuration files. Can I remove the packages configuration files easily or do I need to reinstall the package and then remove with a --purge?

I asked
try this instead:
it's like two files in /etc it looks like
This is very interesting... doing purge also removed it from the tab completion on apt-get!
ditto with apache... doing purge removed it from tab completion
ah, maybe it is smart enough, interesting

@JorgeCastro finished, added screenshots :)
Nice work dude!
you're welcome :D
14:44
@RolandTaylor that's cool... so, it has a database of everything, if you do remove but it has configs, it leaves it in a residual config state... guess there must be a switch to filter or similar from command line
as long as I know it isn't corrupt! I'm happier! Thought I mucked something up... Anyway, +1ed your answer!
If you corrupt it, it will complain about broken packages (Synaptic) and offer a fix ;)
