6:02 AM
Then it's a bad 10% :D

@Serg Internet pooped again, Ubuntu tends to reset my icons to a jumbled mess in no order, however Windows they always stay in the same place. ^ Yes, Ubuntu does reset my icons every time I restart or even logout/and in

@NathanOsman yeah well.
I'm gonna be paying for this phone sorta out-of-pocket thanks to eBay.
and listed. now we wait...

Hm
@KazWolfe I've run into a problem
Was hoping you could help

@DavidCole-GrammarPolice is it that you don't have an iPhone and you want one?
because i can definitely help there.

@DavidCole-GrammarPolice As far as remembering icon positions , there is already solutions for that. I remember Jacob wrote as script for similar question. It has to be used jointly with "Orgainze by name" option in right click, though. There's no automatic way, really.

6:08 AM
maybe with other things too tho.

I thought there was more to it, David

#1: Uhm wait srsly @KazWolfe

so your only complain about unity automatically moving around desktop icons ?

I'm OCD.
So yes.
Also the grid isn't locked
even in "keep in columns"

@NathanOsman please update the cmake on your PPA :p askubuntu.com/questions/829310/how-to-upgrade-cmake-in-ubuntu

6:10 AM
gah!

> Estimated availability: Ships within 4 weeks
@NathanOsman wat is dis.

i can't go 4 weeks without a phone!

it might take 4 weeks to sell your iphone anyway
use it in the meantime

6:11 AM
can't order new phone until old one sells

because screw you ebay, and all my money is tied up in bitcoin atm

gah

@DavidCole-GrammarPolice YES?

I need to get into my router VIA anyway possible. Default gate is 192.168.2.1, and like I said I can't hard-wire my way in, but I don't know the MAC address I'd need to get in.

6:12 AM
oh god.
what brand router?

lemme go check lmao I forgot

also what do you need to get in so badly
and why is a TTL cable not an option

Idk what that is first off, 2 idk where I'd get one
especially before my dad gets back

you can make your own TTL cable
I'm 99% sure your school electronics teacher has one you can borrow

We don't have an electronics teacher

6:16 AM
any sort of person who dabbles in robotics?
either way, again, why do you need access?

Not gonna say any specific reasons, but I swear on my 1400 rep it's nothing malicious

you want to disable your MAC firewall, huh?
well i have good news for you.

BTW it's a Rosewill 150M Wireless Lite-N Router

reset your router to factory settings.

No.
My dad would notice

6:18 AM
boom, magic access.
Then, you could try to Ethernet directly in and try to connect.

Let me guess, the router is in your dad's room ?
Yeah . . .been there

wifi-based MAC filtering (the kind used to block devices from connecting at all) is defeated by a plug.

not sure about firmware access, but it's a possibility.

6:19 AM
I might have a cable...

if you can't connect to the wifi at all, it might help. If you can connect but can't go anywhere, it won't.

back when i had to deal with the parent scourge, i was the net admin so... yeah. total control
but they occasionally got in using credentials and accessed parental controls.
trusty FTDI cable fixed all of that right up.

7 mins ago, by Kaz Wolfe
you can make your own TTL cable
Hold on waht

i think you can actually
it's just data pins IIRC
or just buy one on amazon.
they're like $10 and super useful.

6:24 AM
Again, dad gets home in 4 days .-.

prime shipping.

and a promise that this will never again work in the future lol

And okay, I need a TTL on one end what's on the other?

USB --> TTL/FDTI
something like that --^
(though i think you should get a 3.3V version unless you want to fry things)

6:26 AM
oh wait

or, actually, that works, as you only need the data pins.

I can jailbreak my phone
duh
nvm ^v^

you... didn't think of a hotspot?
I think we told you about that one already... like, a lot.

=.=
It's not that

also you have a phone running iOS 9.3.3 or less?

6:27 AM
My dad thought of that
He turned off my data LMFAO

jailbreak wont help then bro

data is turned off at carrier level unless he does parental control on the phone itself, which i doubt

I can spoof the MAC to a whitelisted address >:D
I just need wifi on my phone lmao

DON'T
iPhones have been known to break with spoofed MAC addresses

I wonder if I can share a connection from my computer to my phone?

er... sorta?
you need to be JB'd, but yeah, you can reverse-tether

i still really want to see David vs a Circle.

hell, i'd fly out to wherever to watch that irl.

iTunes wants me to restart before jailbreak.. brb

what iOS version you on?

31k !

@edwinksl For which release?

6:35 AM
naaaaathaaaaaaannnnnnn

Wuuuuuuuuut.

why does oneplus take four weeks

@NathanOsman latest stable version is 3.6.2

@edwinksl Sorry, I meant which Ubuntu release :D

so many scripts to write, so little time
but probably enough for one day

6:35 AM
@KazWolfe Mine took a couple weeks.
They are probably low on stock.

gah

@NathanOsman i think OP is using 16.04

nah, i think it's the US customs
mine took quite a while too

@edwinksl Ah, okay.
I can try tomorrow to update it.
@KazWolfe Yup, checked my records. Exactly two weeks for mine.

somehow cmake for 14.04 is more updated than the one for 16.04 in your ppa. that is discrimination

6:37 AM
Although it took 15 days thanks to UPS messing up delivery.

What else would UPS do?

@edwinksl Are you sure? I thought the 14.04 version was way out-of-date.

Get a delivery date correct?

is the warranty a good idea @NathanOsman?

@DavidCole-GrammarPolice Well, statistically speaking, they must get it right at least once in a while.

6:38 AM
cmake 3.4.1-2~ubuntu16.04.1~ppa1 (Newer version available) Nathan Osman (2016-02-10)
cmake 3.5.2-1ubuntu1~ubuntu14.04.1~ppa1 Nathan Osman (2016-06-04)

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

so @DavidCole-GrammarPolice, what iOS you running?

@edwinksl 3.5.2! I don't remember uploading that!

About to be running 8.0

6:39 AM
@NathanOsman uh oh you got hacked?!??!?!

Oh wait.
That's the failed build.
I think that might have been the one that didn't work.

yeah this part about LP confuses me to no end

Okay, sorry - yeah, that's the one that failed.

not the first time i got tricked :p
anyway, once you do update your PPA, ez rep

Q: I can't connect to ethernet but can connet to wifi

fizisI'm using ubuntu 16.04. Here is the output of ifconfig: -> ~$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 3c:97:0e:e2:27:ea UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0...

6:41 AM
Alright, it should show the old version now.
WUT. Now it doesn't show anything for Trusty.
LAUNCHPAD!

it disappeared altogether
lol

now you see why i dont use launchpad lol

Stupid Launchpad.

you can probably ditch 15.10 though :p

Imma hafta re-upload that one now. And with a new revision now. ಠ_ಠ

6:44 AM
and free up some space

I'm not really short of space.
We'll see where that goes.
In the meantime, I've dispatched a build for 3.5.2 on Xenial.

And with that, goodnight all.

hehehe
"Upgrading" to ios 8 as we speak

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
@DavidCole-GrammarPolice how are you downgrading?!

6:48 AM
Easily.

ios 8 isn't signed...

Ctrl + Shift + Check For Update/Update lets you choose a file, and I have a backup :P

er...
that doesn't restore IOS 8

pretty sure at least.

6:49 AM
It's not what you think

If it's a backup, the actual OS isn't stored in the backup data.

it's an ipsw file

You need an IPSW with iOS 8, and even so, it's not signed, so you can't actually execute a downgrade unless you have an APTicket and SHSH blobs.

That's what you'd think, right?

yeah, that's what 4+ years in jailbreaking have told me.
there should be no conceivable way to downgrade without those things.

6:50 AM
kk we'll see

unless you're using Odysseus? You'd still need APTickets...
actually nevermind, keys were apparently leaked for iOS 8.4.1. What version are you restoring to @DavidCole-GrammarPolice?

One sec
researching

@Zanna one hell of a /etc/default/grub

@edwinksl wtf happened there?

OP probably went to town with sudo and did cp or mv on random things

6:55 AM
heh yeah...
I don't think the dupe suggestion makes sense though

i think techraf is saying the solution does
grey area... i don't think it is a dupe either

"lazy dupe" right?
woah quiet day, not many new Qs... did i miss anything good?

heh, not sure what that "lazy dupe" means, but i think dupe should be defined by question, not answer

keep me posted on this @DavidCole-GrammarPolice. I'll be amazed if you can pull off a restore

Working on tricking iTunes into thinking a signed key for 10 is for 8

6:59 AM
@edwinksl oh Zacharee mentioned it, he said it was when the answer works so you dupe it even though it's a completely different question

ah ok
i mean, reinstalling ubuntu is almost certainly a solution to these problems
if i write that as an answer to some question, does it make that question the mother of dupe targets

haha yeah I guess

@DavidCole-GrammarPolice er... good luck m8
i don't think that's gonna be possible. a lot of really smart people have tried and failed.
it's hard to forge an RSA signature

@Zanna you missed out on this askubuntu.com/questions/829297/…

7:02 AM
actually i can give some more detail on this if you want, @DavidCole-GrammarPolice. I've actually studied this :D

@edwinksl oh yeah, could have done that one :)

i got to make a meaningful suggestion to god heemayl
i call that a win

@edwinksl applauds :)
have some meaningless comment upvotes

@Zanna they're not meaningless

i guess they help with getting the incredibly awesome pundit badge

7:08 AM
@KazWolfe yeah but @edwinksl got all the comment badges :)
@edwinksl I can see some of my +5 comments are ridiculous - there was one that just says "it seems to be telling you the answer" where the error message said what to do and OP hadn't tried to do it

@Zanna that is a good comment imo... too many people don't read things right in front of them

I believe the one about the space bar went down well too
Better see my latest answer for very easy edit :) — Tummala Dhanvi May 18 '15 at 6:28
Hope my answer (in the last) is the easiest one you can use :) — Tummala Dhanvi May 18 '15 at 6:32
@Oli I think this is the easiest answer hope you agree :) — Tummala Dhanvi Apr 8 '15 at 11:44

@DavidCole-GrammarPolice You've suffered enough. What you're doing isn't possible.

GAHHHH
I WILL GET THIS
>:CCCCCCCC

No you won't.
Trust me on this one.
iOS signature enforcement is very strict
It's not even done in iTunes, it's on the device.

7:14 AM
I'm braindead from all the troubleshooting I've been doing

Essentially you have the image hash + device id + other data all hashed up and then signed with apple's private key
they stop signing these things when an iOS signing window dies.
There's no way to bypass this signature enforcement without stealing Apple's private RSA key.
and they fixed the SHSH replay attacks by having a single-use nonce bundled into the new thing, called an APTicket.

stop
words hurt
If I see one more damn acronym I'll kms
;)

I think this check and enforcement happens in the LLB, which is burned into the chip itself so we can't fix it.

do you think I could move the display from one iphone to another?

(Actually, there may be a way to update the key, but it would require that iBoot provide a mechanism for this, and it would also require driver signing)
what do you mean?

7:18 AM
I have an old Sprint phone, which is not able to be used with my SIM because of Sprint being dumb, but the screen is less cracked than my real phone
could I move the LCD?

you could, i guess

well, are they the same model?

Do I want to reopen this? is it answerable? askubuntu.com/review/reopen/621681

7:18 AM
then, they should be swappable.
but no, you can't downgrade to any version lower than 9.3.5 at the moment, @DavidCole-GrammarPolice.

What would I need to open up the phones?

Pentalobe screwdriver, heat gun, patience.

melt the glue

7:21 AM
actually no.
screen swaps don't need glue work
Here you go, @DavidCole-GrammarPolice

oh jfc
I'm buying a new phone
I'm not buying all this shit

you really just need a screwdriver and a suction cup

screwdriver
or a knife. both work well.

Also I don't have the special screwdriver

7:26 AM
well that's apple's fault.
i would have been amazed if you managed to crack RSA in a challenge to get unrestricted internet.
or found a vulnerability in the iOS bootrom.
If this were the case, fire all the scientists and replace the goals with something related to kids and internet.

I think ios10 just bricked my phone...

@DavidCole-GrammarPolice theiphonewiki.com/wiki/SHSH_Protocol
The SHSH protocol is just fascinating, as is the new APTicket method.

I gave up D: I don't need these fancy acronyms

it's still a fascinating subject

7:30 AM
either way, i'm not there so i can't try my exploits on your dad's router
even though i'm certain a couple would work... still don't wanna waste them.

@KazWolfe
help
I accidentally put an icloud account onto my phone that idk the passwd to :<

7:55 AM
Did you enable any locks?
If not, just disable the account. Maybe restore? If so, sorry m8 ur toast. Go to Apple Store and explain, or try resetting PW
Locks meaning Find My iPhone, et al
