I don't think so. The echo command should still be echo "$i". Setting IFS to ',' is useful if your string is comma separated. The duplicates that your question were closed for illustrate it perfectly. stackoverflow.com/a/918931/4026906

Threema is so far the best encrypted messaging app I have found, but it is not OSS, not free, and there are no desktop clients :/

For painless e2e yes, they do. (how else would you achieve that lol?). There is an option to encrypt it with a password, but you then have to get the password to the recipient.
