@Serg Might it be possible that you get your Tox running again soon? Ideally now?
@ByteCommander I already have it, let me give you ID

Q: SSH does not respond only from Ubuntu

JunhyukWe have several desktops in which both Windows and Ubuntu are installed. But, some of them cannot connect to some servers only from Ubuntu. Here are the summary of the current status: Cannot connect to the servers from Ubunutu (14.04, 16.04) If username/password is wrong, it gives "Permissio...

@ThomasWard could you please delete some of the chat messages that have mine , Nathan's and IanC's utox ids ?
Other people's ids should be around the same time mine is posted
Thank you in advance
00:09
Nathan is a mod himself, he could have deleted it if he wanted. Just FYI :)
why are tox ids so secret?
they're only as secret as your email or jabber
I deleted @Serg's. I don't see one from @IanC. I'll let @NathanOsman delete his if he feels it necessary.
What is this?
I don't care if anyone has mine.
@KazWolfe Actually they are even less secret than your email.
They contain a NoSpam code. You may change it to make friend requests over that old ID impossible, but it still works for your old contacts.
oh that's neat
00:19
Yeah, it's the last few bytes (9 or so?) of your ID.
They are only necessary for friend requests, but not for staying in contact.
00:33
OP like this pisses me off askubuntu.com/q/806540/295286 YOU HAVE OTHER SCRAPY PROCESSES, why are you using pgrep scrapy and not pgrep your_script.sh as i told you ?

Q: OMP error Bash on Ubuntu on Windows

Greg RovI am a beginner Linux user, and I use a software for genetic analysis. In the Linux system it works normal. However, I am curious about the bash for windows. And when I running my analysis the following error appears: OMP: Error #100: Fatal system error detected. OMP: System error #22: Invalid a...

@NathanOsman
You've worked hard. This one is easy, you deserve it. Welcome to level four.

Deep within a tree, three brothers sit. In which order must they be hit?
tree . . .binary tree maybe, root, and two branches. If I remember correctly there's 3 ways: preorder, in-order, and post-order traversal for trees
@KazWolfe
um...
huh.
now i'm actually confused
because i don't think it's literal -- it's a hidden message
hexdumps show nothing of interest, so it's not unicode substitution
@NathanOsman Once we solve this, we should post them all to Puzzling
01:06
Yeah.
I'm mobile now.
So my interaction will be limited.
@KazWolfe can you add me back to the group ? I had to reload my tox
I also have a new ID for mobile.

I'm mobile sorta now
Let me get on my lappy
Any ideas for part 4?
I can't read it all.
Mobile chat is cutting it off.
How many lines can you see?
@NathanOsman Deep within a tree, three brothers sit. In which order must they be hit?
The quote formating was cropping it out for me too, but normal message is never cropped, so here you go
01:36
Thanks.
What is deep within a tree?
Trunk? Cave?
What's a story with three brothers?
I don't think it's a riddle
There's something hidden in there.
trees have those circles and layers
Wasn't there a 3x3 grid?
What was on the home page again?
@KazWolfe 3 brother story from harry potter, family tree here: harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Peverell_family
See... it is a riddle :D
01:48
Let's see. That is Antioch, Cadmus, and Ignotus
man, the dudes from Code Golf are crazy
I tried one challenge, got my heard working to make an alphabet wave with the least code on C. Managed to do it with 86 bytes, not including the main() function
@KazWolfe is that the order?
         for(int c=-11,n=-26;++n<1;){while(c++){printf("%c%c",90+n,n?91+n:65);}c=-11;puts("");}
@NathanOsman Order of birth and death.
but what do we have what shows it's Harry Potter?
then a guy does it with 60 bytes (including main!) with some crazy hack!
          main(i){for(;i<703;)putchar(i++%27?65+(i/27+i%27%2)%26:10);}
01:52
@KazWolfe toast? :D
that module trick was really cool, I can't even imagine how he figured it out
@NathanOsman The thing on the homepage was:

N O P
O P Q
P Q R
i mean, the peverell thing might work, but it's a leap of logic
@IanC basically while loop using for loop, and putchar. printf must have format string as arguments, putchar apparently doesn't
also looks like he uses ternary operator
are there any other ideas?

i mean, there has to be something.

Best. Wikipedia. Edit. Ever.
mod pin abuse
@KazWolfe that link seems to fit
I didn't do it. Lol.
I have more keybase.io invites BTW.
@Serg the impressive part isn't the for, it's the logic behind the selection of the ASCII value. He makes a modulus of i++ with 27, the value will increase from 0 to 26 and then go back to 0 again continuosly. If the modulus value is not 0, putchar will print the ASCII value of 65+i/27(which will be constant for 26 iterations and then increase by 1) + i%27(1 through 26)%2(oscilates between 1 and 0. This accomplishes the alternating effect)
@Serg The last %26 modulus just keeps the value of whats inside (i/27 + i%27%2) EXCEPT when it reaches 26 (to make sure Z will alternate with A instead of the next ASCII code)
02:36
it's all number magic :)
and some people are magicians
the :10 is just a newline for when 27 numbers have been printed
man, it's crazy how someone can come up with this
but I"ve seem some crazy codes on code golf
just wonder which is faster, to use modulus for those iterations or conditionals (in case we are not worried about code size anymore)
well, it was a productive day, could get my studies going, but I gotta wake in less than 6 hours to work

@NathanOsman, any idea on the morse puzzle
so, splitting on double spaces returns this: cu c dak o b ugpyd p cy co xf oyabecbi rb yd odrgne po ru
No ideas yet.
03:19
okay this can't be a coincidence
this is the hex, provided . = 0, - = 1
a3 51 be 0e 6b 8d 57 5e 4b db 0a 81 45 cf 16 8d d1
actually it is. there are just enough bits to form coherent hex bytes
I laughed so hard today that I fainted
I woke up 20 min ago
@ƎpᴉʇʎXD want a challenge?
03:33
@NathanOsman the spacing doesn't seem to be relevant, really.
if the chellenge causes me to faint you will be the cause
this is actually strange. i can cleanly divide the text in quite a few ways
and my head hurts
a lot happened
@KazWolfe I'll probably have to call it a night. We might need to ask this one on Puzzles.SE.
03:45
i'll look at this more tonight and tomorrow
how's it going guys ?
i'm sure it's simple once we realize it
@Serg I got part 5 and my head hurts for more than one reason now
@KazWolfe what's in part 5 ?
-.-. ..-  -.-.  -.. .- -.-   ---   -...  ..- --. .--. -.-- -..  .--.  -.-. -.--  -.-. ---  -..- ..-.  --- -.-- .- -... . -.-. -... ..  .-. -...  -.-- -..   --- -.. .-. --. -. .  .--. ---  .-. ..-

unless that's somehow the answer
in which case, how the hell
can you think of anything Serg?
Not yet. Clearly there's readable string there. Last few letters read UR OPEN

wow UR OPEN
UR OPEN DOOR?
03:53
how did i not see that
UR OPEN GRDODYBRIBCE BAY OF XOCYCPDYPGUBOKADCUC
hold on, maybe python can help us
unless those are just random
i wish we got a bit more instruction but eh
$ python char_combos.py > result.txt && zenity --info --text="done"
tell me what it finds, if anything
@KazWolfe oops, script got killed , too many combos , i guess
03:59
python to the rescue
hmmmm... there has to be something we're overlooking that's really easy
unless it's NOT morse, this is some cipher.
got something better , running
DODGE
there's that
this is either a non 1-1 cipher or this is not morse
@KazWolfe I assume you guys tried the morsecode.scphillips.com/translator.html It has feature to play out the code. Does the sound remind you of any song ?
i did not
and no, it does not remind me of a song
though i'm not too good with music
04:09
maybe @ByteCommander or @NathanOsman could recognize it ^
is it a real song?
slowing down to 15 wpm makes it sound like a tune. I mean, it does have a lot of repeating parts, kind of like some form of beat, but i can't be sure
probably just my imagination
hmmm , my script already generated 4.8 GB file . . . . too many possible combinations
I managed to break Ubuntu by inserting my SeaGate...
It couldn't handle the DLL files and crashed
i probably should have filtered the combinations to print out only those that have actual words in them
04:54

He is suggesting too dangerous solution
and he himself made multiple errors. look at the comment section
How so?
Dude: "Hey, could you hand me a patch cable?" Me: "How long?" Dude: "As short as possible" Me: "Sure thing buddy" https://t.co/E1XmTysex4
i want one now
so @NathanOsman, can you recognize a song?
Probably not. I am good at recognizing things but I'm not too familiar with popular music.
well maybe you can recognize that as a morse song
we've thrown four red herrings at this so far lol
04:58
My python script is still running. Once it's done, i'm going to grep out all lines that have 'OPEN' in them an we'll see what happens
i don't think we're gonna find anything useful
well, what better ideas we have so far ?
spaces seem relevant
the music

@Serg good morning
i figured out the clock time of 8 GB memory card
i installed i2c-tools yesterday
so @NathanOsman @Serg @JourneymanGeek, any more ideas?
@gansub congrats , i suppose !
@KazWolfe I'm out.
@KazWolfe no ideas, just waiting for script to finish
05:13
@Serg one memory card has 1600 Mhz and the other one 1800
both are incompatible right?
well then, @NathanOsman, post tomorrow unless someone thinks of something?
i bet our mysterious host is getting a decent laugh at our struggle. it's probably really simple...
@gansub small difference, i would think it should be compatible. I don't actually know
@Serg big difference in reality
Ubuntu freezes
Decent Host: MUHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!
actually @NathanOsman, i have all the e-mails so i'll just continue the loop, okay?
05:15
@KazWolfe i am more wondering who our mysterious host is . . . .
@ƎpᴉʇʎXD you wanna solve it?
Decent Host: You will never crack me!
too tired

@KazWolfe Sure.

05:34
@KazWolfe Oh, just the flag count.
@KazWolfe Ok ok O-O
@NathanOsman again, are we supposed to?
@KazWolfe ?
your account was just the first i saw to test out if i could see flags
i have no clue what is happening in this chat
05:35
sorry about singling you out like that
no worries
@edwinksl me too
@KazWolfe I think that's intentional.
Obviously you can't see what has been flagged.
huh. it used to be private
I don't remember it being private.
05:36
woah.
Is it safe to run sudo purge?
@NathanOsman I'm catching up to you on the one stat that matters :D
I'm not on Ask Ubuntu as much as you are, quite probably.
nor am I
IS IT SAFE TO RUN SUDO PURGE -_-
05:38
your people reached stat on AU is only 400k larger than my people reached on Gaming.SE
@ƎpᴉʇʎXD Do you have a recent backup?
well in vms we have SNAPSHOTS
then yes, it is safe.
I guess so
also i assume you mean apt purge?
What does SUDO PURGE do>
05:39
I am AFK guys, watching stream
no we are talking debian buddy!
purge is not a command IIRC.
@KazWolfe @NathanOsman if yall come up with something ping me
the only thing i can think of is apt purge or apt-get purge
@Serg We came up that you can solve it.
jeezums , 37 G in file already and still going
05:40
i think that means something's wrong
and you're searching one hell of a keyspace there. stop generating rainbow tables m8!
i think you're only at 0.00001% if you're searching the entire keyspace
eh , I got nothing to do anyway , so sure , let the machine do some heavy-lifting
does ubuntu-server shipped with a gui?
no @AnwarShah
@AnwarShah That would be a terrible waste of resources.
@KazWolfe and a security hole
