@Oli it all seems to be the same spam
why can't they advertise something more interesting?
@Oli When you see those, just destroy the account. Don't bother suspending them. Especially if it's their first post :)
21:27
but let us first flag it to gain some weight :P
is anyone else unable to move windows properly?
they seem to be stuck somehow, and then the mouse cursor just jiggles madly
known bug
you are on intel, right?
I thought maybe my mouse was broken
yes
21:30
that's what i thought too at first :)
I also get weird rendering bugs
that's it
I'm going back
that's cool
i want that too :P
Oli
Oli
@MarcoCeppi Yeah that's what I did for the second, third and fourth posts this morning
you are going back to arch?
Oli
Oli
I was feeling polite first of all and then realised there was more than one spammy post so got very much less polite.
21:33
@StefanoPalazzo I get that on 11.04 on my work computer
going back to work and stop complaining about unity, I'll get used to it eventually
2
:P
@MarcoCeppi intel graphics?
Not on the icons, but on the top panel, and some buttons in the dash, sometimes.
> VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Cedar PRO [Radeon HD 5450]

Yay! It's complain about Unity day on Ask Ubuntu!
huh, so it's probably a bug in nux then or something
Maybe, since it's my work computer I don't really have time to sit and figure out the bug
21:35
I filled out phoronix' gnome survey today
it asked whether the current version of gnome is better or worse than last years' version
I'm really looking forward to the result :D
(<3 gnome)
@StefanoPalazzo bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/874514 → i just don't know if that gets any attention from smspillaz, but he knows about it
do you need an account for that survey?
great! thanks
no you don't need an account
jrg
jrg
@htorque Nope.
cool, i have some bad words left for today :D
jrg
jrg
haha.
21:50
> If you could change three things in GNOME, what would they be?
if i could change three things in GNOME i'd be happy. :D
jrg
jrg
hah

@MarcoCeppi Just writing your testimonial now... I think I should stop with what I've got because I was just about to write "In many ways, Marco is the father I never had; the calm, reassuring hand of authority on your shoulder... blah blah"
People shouldn't let me use keyboards.
It's a testimonial, not a hagiography
Oli
Oli
I'll have him running for governor next.
Seriously, I'm finding it very hard to rein myself in.
I should probably write up a testimonial
"Marco's alright, I guess"
@Oli are you an ubuntu member?
Oli
Oli
22:03
@ajmitch Not yet. I had meant to apply but then I moved house and that means when I'm not running around it naked, I'm either doing the work I should have been doing while I was running around the house naked, or moderating Ask Ubuntu.
It's getting colder now so I'll probably have more time to do my work during business hours so I'll have more time to apply.
I'd better put a testimonial in then, I believe the boards appreciate members vouching for people
I quit WoW so that I could have more ubuntu time ;)
so you are the one selling all the gold on ask ubuntu? :P
as if, it's just bitrotting on my now-inactive characters in game :)
Ah, it feels good to write an answer. I haven't written an answer in weeks.
quick! everyone upvote!
22:15
NO! The gaming rules will destroy my rep! :D
too late, it was a good answer
Oli
Oli
I'll need to change my testimonial :) "Marco represents the worst of Ask Ubuntu, writing an answer and then demanding that everybody sitting in our chatroom immediately votes for him. If he doesn't get enough reputation, he'll ban the next user to cross his path. He treats the site like his personal kingdom, misappropriating site funds for strippers and drugs. I'll probably have my account deleted for saying this, but somebody needs to know the truth about DictatorCeppi!"
@Oli I don't know, that sounds about right.
Oli
Oli
:)
I keep trying to ban you, but you've got a stupid ♦ in your name so I can't.

Anyway, good luck on Thursday. If there's any sanity in the world, you'll sail through it. Let us know how gruelling it is.
Will do, it looks like I'll be doing it via 3G at the airport terminal in Cleveland I'm traveling that evening :)
just hope not all users show up - i think nine approvals won't happen
I should see who's on the membership board so that I can lean on them quietly
oh there are a few people on the board that I know
besides, you've got @JorgeCastro as a cheerleader
Oli
Oli
lol
I can picture Jorge with a foam finger and an air horn (or their IRC equivalents)
22:29
headbanging to some metal

"A foam finger and an air horn"... There's just too much scope for innuendo in that phrase to be ignored.

Q: Are there any plans to unite Gnome-Shell and Unity?

Ralf HerselMany users have to decide whether they want to go for Unity or Gnome-Shell. Both new desktops have their pros and cons. For me it feels like splitting the community. Therefore I'm interested to know if there are any efforts going on to combine the best of both worlds.

Close as not constructive, I'm split on this.
conveniently the meeting time looks to be right when I'd be on IRC anyway
This is the comment I've been writing so far, what say you community of 8?
> This question is being closed, not because of it's merits as a question, but simply because it's not suitable for our format at Ask Ubuntu. It's hard to say with certainty if it is or not without having the actual authors of such a merge come forward and say so. This question also has a high potential to be flame bait.
Otherwise, isn't the answer just a simple "No."
jrg
jrg
@Oli I can't decide if I should flag that or star it... ;)
@MarcoCeppi Good comment.
22:33
Okay, closed it and I'll deal with the fallout later. I'm going to head home! See you all in about 40 mins.
Goodbye!
Oli
Oli
@MarcoCeppi Yeah that's good.
ok, I've testified in @MarcoCeppi's defense on the wiki
time to visit @jrg's page & see if he's worthy
FlackBot ಠ_ಠ
Hi everyone :)
22:35
Hey, nice to see you!
jrg
jrg
@ajmitch I'm not, so save your time. ;)
Whats happening with wi-fi after upgrading to 11.10 ??
my wi-fi stopped working after upgrade
anyone knows what it could be ?
jrg
jrg
@SwapnilNarendra sounds like a question for the site - you can get more users input there than just the 10 of us in the chatroom.
@jrg ok, I'll say that it'd be a disaster to let you in :)
jrg
jrg
@ajmitch That works. :)
22:37
ohh I posted a question there.. but thought maybe anyone here might know what is going on.. coz me and some of my friends think it could be a bug too
jrg
jrg
Link to the question?
cya all (this time for real)
here is the question if anyone's interested :)
http://askubuntu.com/questions/68974/wireless-intermittently-working-after-upgrading-to-11-10
jrg
jrg
@htorque get out of here. ;P
@SwapnilNarendra you need to add some hardware info to that question
so we can see what kind of broadcom it is
22:38
@JorgeCastro I am ready to do that.. if someone could tell me HOW to do that :P
there's a link in the comment I left on your question

thanks :) let me check it out

Q: I have a hardware detection problem, what logs do I need to look into?

Jorge CastroI am trying to ask a question about getting my hardware to work but I don't know what information to add to my question to get help, what do I need to do?

2
A: I have a hardware detection problem, what logs do I need to look into?

fossfreedomWireless Cards Wireless connectivity issues are fortunately becoming rarer with each Ubuntu release. However problems still occur. The following information will help diagnose wireless connectivity issues in questions posted on AskUbuntu: How the kernel recognises your network cards: sudo ls...

22:40
BTW: Do you really need sudo for lspci?
Seems to work fine as a regular use on 11.04
I don't think so
Oli
Oli
@MarcoCeppi I think you do for some of the verbosity settings but not for plain ol' lspci
@JorgeCastro its working fine as of now.. so I gues I will need to post the logs when its NOT working.. right ??
lspci -vvvnn | grep -i broadcom works fine
(no output here, which makes me happy :P)
@SwapnilNarendra Is it an intermittent issue?
22:42
yes
@MarcoCeppi yes... its like it has a brain of its own and it is upto to annoy me
@SwapnilNarendra Is this on a laptop?
acer aspire one netbook (mini laptop))
yes.. I did mention its intermittent in my question :)
I know my netbook goes bonkers when I suspend it for too long, or restart it. It requires me to disable/re-enable the Wifi to work. You mentioned doing Fn+F for the touchpad, I assume you've done the same for the Wifi?
Oli
Oli
@htorque Compare lspci -vvvnn with sudo lspci -vvvnn, you get a lot more information (mostly memory addresses) as root.
oli@bert:~$ sudo lspci -vvvnn | wc -l
1338
oli@bert:~$ lspci -vvvnn | wc -l
573
@SwapnilNarendra Either way, make sure you put your hardware information into the post. It'll help other users trying to answer the question know if they actually can :D
22:46
@MarcoCeppi Yes.. I tried to disable and re-enable but it just doesnt work.. and the interesting part is .. that when its not working.. even the wired connection is not working
@Oli right
@SwapnilNarendra Odd, go ahead and put the hardware information in there from the output of lspci so we know what card you're working with. What will be important to test, when it's not working run lspci again and see if the Ethernet adapter is being recognized.
@MarcoCeppi right now its working fine.. so I guess I will collect the data when it wont be working :p
@SwapnilNarendra RIght, but including that information now, what brand the card is, other hardware information, will be useful to know now - not just when it's not working.
@MarcoCeppi alright.. then I am on it :)
22:49
:D

Well, that's a personal record. 100 spams in the past week.
@jrg please stop sending out so many
jrg
jrg
@ajmitch Haha.
Another reason I wouldn't go well with Ubuntu Membership. Spam from "[email protected]" ;)
23:32
well I signed the code of conduct :D
jrg
jrg
haha. :D
well I am liking 11.10 with gnome classic alright now that I've settled down from all my stuff being interrupted :P
but i think mostly because i switched to chrome from firefox, ha
Anyone remember the name of the package that installs all of the Debian build tools?
build-essential has the minimal set
jrg
jrg
@StefanoPalazzo YAY ASK UBUNTU LENS IS BACK! :D
23:47
yes! thanks to launchpad.net/~markjtully who ported it to 11.10's lens api
I can't sign in to the Ubuntu Wiki :(
jrg
jrg
@GeorgeEdison 90% of the time I can't either.
What do they do wrong...? :P
you need 15 rep to talk in the chat, correct?
