perhaps you need to install it?
root@AlkaliMetal:~# apt-get install dbus-x11
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
dbus-x11 is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
j0h
j0h
its weird you have the man page, but not the command
@j0h According to apt-get, it is up to date.
Something comes to my mind!
I used to fiddle around with some make packages.
Some of them contained dbus stuff.
I uninstalled them after that again.
So might it be that I accidentally removed more of dbus than I should have?
How can I check it?
@ByteCommander sudo apt-get install --reinstall dbus-x11
Or just sudo apt-g... ^ what you said.
j0h
j0h
20:03
apt-get install dbus
(thats a guess)
@Seth I did, but the output of locate is still the same.
locate might take some time to update.
j0h
j0h
its odd, dbus-laucher man page doesnt list its parent package
Try which. which dbus-launch.
@j0h Did not change it either.
@Seth Tells me which.which: command not found.
20:06
lol
it's just which.
I meant "Try which end of sentence --- new sentence which dbus-launch"
Oh! :) I can't really distinguish the code font from the normal font here in chat...
root@AlkaliMetal:~# which dbus-launch
/usr/bin/dbus-launch
@Seth @j0h I think it works now!
Any of the reinstall commands seemed to solve it.
Now root@AlkaliMetal:~# cat /home/bytecommander/dconfgedit.bak | dconf load /org/gnome/gedit/ worked! :D
j0h
j0h
cool, Im glad it works for you
And after that, also my gedit problem is nuked! :) :)
Yippieh! :D
Glad things are good! :D
I hope my logout problem also has vanished...
Will have to find out later.
@Fabby Good news!
gedit continues its job! :)
I reinstalled dbus (which I probably messed up with some make install and uninstall) and then copied the dconf:/org/gnome/gedit/ branch of my user to the root dconf and now it works!
Solving problems feels good.
@Fabby So my system is not thaaat messed up anymore. Maybe I can save it!
20:15
@ByteCommander :) :) :)
@Fabby Naah, too mainstream. You know I need hard music!
Are you familiar with LibreOffice Impress? (= PowerPoint for free)
Or anyone else?
BoA blows
I can't figure out how to set the background colour of a slide... :-/
20:24
Don't have it installed sorry, what are you trying to do>
do?
@ByteCommander?
Preparing a presentation for school.
@ByteCommander yes
I wanted a background color different than white. Same for all slides, so I would apply it on the master.
Ah... Lemme look
I found the master, but not how to change background color.
I can (probably) set an image as background, but I did not find how to set a simple color or color gradient...
20:27
F11
Right-click on background
modify
Hey! Thanks.
Can I reach it through a menu too?
fill - colour
yes!
format - styles and formatting
At least I've been of some help to you today!
(and I should have continued with my first steps)
Do you also have only one single slide template?
20:30
(because I wanted originally to copy gedit stuff over from a user where it worked and then got sidetracked by raspberry Pi designs)
Aargh! That would have saved so much trouble effort and time!
@ByteCommander Heh? Was? Ich verstehe Dich nicht!
Format menu > slide templates
I only have one template to chose from.
@RPiAwesomeness Where are you and your annoying Pi? I want to throw Unicorns and Gnomes at you!
I don't have that menu
?
Screenshooting...
20:33
Format:
(to train your German... ;D)
Click on there then on load
it's "slide design" in EN
Laden
Aah! Why is this so complicated compared to M$ PPt?
20:35
Nah!
It's not more complicated!
Who told them to hide it behind 2 Billion menus?
jrg
jrg
it's just as complicated
You've just worked more in PP and are more familiar with it!
True. But PPt 2000!
jrg
jrg
just in different ways
20:36
@jrg for once: I AGREE! :D:D:D
@Fabby Are you still familiar with colourants (chemistry)?
I used to design them, why?
presentation about them in 2-3 weeks
Could you explain pi-orbitals to me?
>:-) I wish my 60GB HDD of my 286 hadn't crashed about 25 years ago!
Oh God!
In relation to colourants?
60GB????????? (jaw dropping)
20:39
in broad terms, yes...
Hey, the machine had 2M of RAM!
60GB was all you needed with Lotus 123 and WordStar!
(and ASM, turbo-pascal and GWBASIC (puke) )
What was the average disk size in 1990? 60MB or something like that?
@ByteCommander you need to use Microsoft Sway.
@TheX And that is?
I am not really sure...
20 MB was the standard...
20:41
But I have an account lol
and 1MB of RAM
I had a very fast big machine in...
So you tell me that 60GB is all you need? 3000x average is... wow.
@ByteCommander sway.com
1988
1981 or so was the first IBM PC...
My machine until 1988 had 64KByte of RAM
and a whopping 1.2 MB floppy drive (8 inch)
I wasn't born until 1982...
20:43
=20 cm
@TheX Hey you! KID! GET OFF MY LAWN!
>:)
I'm just saying....
I've dated girls younger then you though! >:)
:) And what shall I do then? '96! But grew up with computers that were in average a decade older than I
Me too...
I am married to a girl younger then you :-P @Fabby
@TheX I hope you addressed this sentence to Fabby... >.<
;)
20:46
@TheX :D
@ByteCommander o.O
Why on earth?
I need a break. How long will you stay on tonight, Fabby?
@RPiAwesomeness Sorry! ;) Nothing serious.
Well its about go home time...
@RPiAwesomeness You interrupted Fabby solving my problem - and made him forget the correct solution
20:48
@ByteCommander another hour or so?
@ByteCommander lol :D
It took me a few hours to get the same idea myself...
how do i sign out of hangouts on chrome?
But now it works finally.
@TheX uninstall chrome???
>:)
20:49
lol no there has to be a way...
:'( I haz sadz because I wants to watch WarOwl stream, but our internet sucks so bad I can't do it whilst my mother is on the internet :(
But I still fear that my "make uninstall" odyssey left more harm than I thought...
@Seth: I just got a blue Icon and some screen popped up:
Any idea how I could check if some packages got damaged?
Oh there we go...
20:50
@RPiAwesomeness bring her a nice cup of tea with some Valium
But when I clicked "invalid"
@Fabby 10k chat user - you get chat flags from any chat room ever
Tea sounds good actually @Fabby
Or try Sodium Pentothal.
I've got 10K?
@ByteCommander that's much harder to get...
@Fabby ...good luck with that. My mom is not the easily persuaded type :P
20:51
I don't know. I read about it in a book.
@RPiAwesomeness That's why: make her fall asleep with some valium in her tea!!!
"The Murder Room" by Michael Capuzzo
@Fabby SE-wide?
I've only got 9400 and change...
I dunno!
lemme look!
Doesn't it show here?
Oh!
I do!
20:52
Looks like properly deploying CoreOS on Digital Ocean involves setting up a CA.
Your SE profile shows 10.5k
10.5K ...
Wow... Where has the time gone by when I was trying to get my first 50 to be able to upvote!
I'm having a late diner now... Will you still be awake in half an hour @Fabby?
@Fabby Hmmm....I thought it was 10k site-wide for chat flags. Could be wrong.
Is that your aggregated total from all the StackExchange sites?
20:54
@ByteCommander Gutes Fressen! :D
@ByteCommander Jawohl!
@Fabby is an old man... he will be asleep in 5 mins if we all leave him alone...
:-P
@Fabby Hey! I have table manners!
;)
@TheX Do you know what the unix command is to start a store-and-forward mail server to start delivering mail to an otherwise off-line server?
@ByteCommander ;-)
@Fabby Lemme guess.. it said you could only vote on things that are flagged?
Yet another version ('cause @Mateo liked the 3rd version)
20:55
@TheX Then keep him awake! I guess I will need him later... ;-)
I have almost 100k network-wide rep.
@Seth "You can only counterflag messages that have been flagged"
[ SmokeDetector ] Nested quote blocks in answer: COMRESET failed and slow boot times by user193243 on askubuntu.com
@SmokeDetector False alarm.
20:56
@NathanOsman You're a god! I bow to you!
I don't particularly like that one :P
the only command I know is: rm -rf /
@NathanOsman I'm worth 1/10 of you!
@Fabby nah you make 10 of me...
Nearly 20k of that is from Stack Apps.
20:57
@Fabby I am a noob...
@TheX Me too!
And this one, which is better, but still not amazing
1 year and 3 months of Ubuntu!
20:58
@Fabby yup. That's because by the time you clicked the button the flags had been handled. It takes a minute or so for the dialog to disappear.
@TheX so do you know the answer to "Do you know what the unix command is to start a store-and-forward mail server to start delivering mail to an otherwise off-line server?"
Well..okay I am not that new...
@Fabby but I still don't know what I am doing with Linux...
@TheX I'm learning and getting stuff done in the mean time...
@Fabby no I have no idea... is this a trick question?
jrg
jrg
@Fabby nope! Why should anyone run their own non-exchange mail server?
20:58
@TheX the answer is:
finger
On...I won't...nevermind...
@jrg :D :D :D
Correct!
So how'd the game go @Nathan? (I forgot what it was called.. the one with you and your brother..)
@jrg It was for M$ Exchange!
@jrg insert random Hillary joke here
