@WinEunuuchs2Unix it depends. We shouldn't just copy and paste everything from somewhere as there may be copyright issues. From SE it's fine - we only have to give attribution in the proper way - for other sources we should try to find copyright or license information to see if and how we can use it

Q: Unable to play Deezer music on Firefox on Ubuntu

JunaidI'm getting this message when I open Deezer on Firefox on Ubuntu 18.04. Sorry, we don't support this version of your browser anymore. Update your browser or download our desktop app to keep enjoying your music.

8:18 AM
@Zanna that also assume you need to keep tracks of changes to licensing after creating your answer. So no, not a good idea. ALWAYS rewrite your answer when copying from somewhere. Installation lines are fine as is but the wording should always be from the person making the answer. Same goes for including images: if those have a watermark... make your own of find one w/o.

just like school hahaha
put it into your own words

hey that's why we all went to school :=)

@WinEunuuchs2Unix that was just one of many answers that author had copied verbatim from other sources. No, for it to be OK, it would have to be in a quote block and mentioning the source and even then, we don't really want answers that are just direct copies of other things.

always stuck with edit suggestions, a maximum of 5 edits pending is to low for me, I can't do my job on first posts review :/
@terdon thanks :)

8:37 AM
You're welcome.

I would stop to annoy you when I would have 2k rep (or more), I do a lot of edit :')

@damadam thanks for reviewing first posts properly!
@damadam hey, it's not annoying at all. Editing is awesome

no, I just see some high rep users that don't check edit suggestions, so I used to be stuck with max edit suggestions (If edit suggestions couldn't be approved by OPs, I would stay stuck a real long time, some of mine are approved or edited by them)
each user do which work they want, i understand some of them don't like to do a 2nd review because it isn't really interesting

yes right, everyone is free to make whatever contribution they feel like
some people like reviewing, some do not. That's not a problem. "It takes all sorts to make a world" etc
but if you ever need some edit reviews, you can always mention it in chat, here or in the Downboat which is a room dedicated to moderation stuff

@Zanna thanks for advise :)

8:50 AM
ugh I'm giving unsolicited advice!

9:43 AM
report I don't know if I should have report as Rude or abusive, or if my NAA is suffisant

it doesn't seem rude or abusive, but, definitely deserves downvoting
downvoting also makes things easier to delete

it's attacking NG (I don't know what it is), but without any insult (hopefully), it's stays rude

And here's a copy-paste answer: askubuntu.com/a/1183729/248158 as spotted by damadam.

@damadam I guess I'm one of those "high rep users that don't check edit suggestions". There isn't enough time in the day to write code for all the questions posted here as it is. If you do want an edit approved just link it here and I (and probably a few others) will quickly vote on it. Rather than approving as is we can quickly hammer it through with another edit and improvement that doesn't need voting.

@Kulfy thanks for filling in the links!

12:26 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix you re not the lonely one, and I didn't blame you (and others) to not do take time to review these edits, it's just me that grumble because i'm limited x)

12:53 PM
revision history can anyone just review this question, I had already done on it, but I let a few because I didn't know really how to manage all the post; unfortunately, OP accept the edit, so it would be hard for reviewers to correct what I leave :/

1:12 PM
lol, blocked again :')
You have too many pending edits. Further edits cannot be submitted until prior edits have been approved. I love that message

@DKBose :)

OP : *I want to remove a symbolic link*
@Rinzwind : use `rm`
Me : **laughting**

1 hour later…
3:56 PM
@Rinzwind I think the OP wants to know how to sever the link between the two files and end up with two independent files. Of course, that isn't possible, but rm isn't the answer either.
@damadam OP: I want to remove a hard link.
An answer should explain that with hard links you don't have two files, you have one "file" and two pointers to it.

4:24 PM
@terdon I've reopened the question.

Thanks.

No problem.
I think you're right that the goal was to have two separate files that start out with the same contents and then diverge. But even if the goal is satisfied by just running rm on one, I still don't think the question is a duplicate of How to remove symbolic link.
I agree with your comment about how the OP is asking about hard links and a question about symbolic links won't help them understand what to do.

5:20 PM
Don't we have some comprehensive answer on what hard links are?

Q: What is the difference between a hard link and a symbolic link?

ste_kwrAs the title says, I would like to know the difference between a hard link and a soft link created by the command ln. The command man ln does provide information, but does not sufficiently answer my question. Also, it would be nice if someone could provide a setting where hard link might be pref...

Oh. My answer here could also be relevant:

A: Are hard links equivalent to Windows shortcuts?

terdonNo, a hard link is completely different. A soft link is closer to a Windows shortcut (though there are important differences, symbolic links are more similar to windows shortcuts than hard links are). A hard link is a different thing and one you will almost never need. Briefly, a soft link is c...

Q: How to get WiFi working on my Macs Ubuntu partition?

Py_JI have recently installed a Ubuntu partition on my MacBook Pro (running Catalina). The first challenge I have found is that, although Ubuntu sees available wifi networks, it will not connect to them despite entering the correct password. I have verified various networks and passwords on another d...

@terdon Yes, those are definitely both relevant. I don't know that it's a duplicate of either of them, though. For now, I'll post a "Related:" comment.
This (on Unix & Linux) is highly relevant and useful:

Q: Breaking a hard-link in-place?

0xC0000022LI am keeping my dotfiles under version control and the script deploying them creates hard links. I also use etckeeper to put my /etc under version control. Recently I have gotten warnings like this: warning: hard-linked files could cause problems with bzr A simple copy (cp filename.ext filenam...

I'll include a link to it in my comment.

5:43 PM
@EliahKagan Gilles does it again...

@Rinzwind Does this account for the fact that a lot of docker images rely on other docker images? e.g. the one in question pulls three different dockerfiles before getting to an ubuntu image

Yo @ThomasWard Thanks for the quick response on my flag.

glory to the Empire, @TheLittleNaruto ;p
(yes i'm insane, i've had 12 cups of coffee SUE ME)
you're welcome :)

5:55 PM
nah i'm always crazy to some extent but still you're welcome :)
(it has no bearing on my ability to moderate)

:P
everyone knew this when I was elected mod though :)

You work for Ubuntu?

@Seth from what I saw it is the size of the image you pull from their site. only that
@damadam askubuntu.com/questions/1183786/… I removed it and someone else answered :+

6:24 PM
@TheLittleNaruto no. moderators on this site are elected by the community like on every other SE site

6:39 PM
@ThomasWard No I didn't mean that. Your profile says this: "Ubuntu Core Developer Team Member since June 17, 2019 (grants upload rights to the repository)"
So, I thought you work for Ubuntu

oh
nah, that's not an employee role
Canonical's the company behind Ubuntu
I'm just one of multiple developers who volunteers to Ubuntu but has full upload rights to the repositories
you don't have to work for Ubuntu to get that, but you do need to show a need for that kind of power :P
and I have it
i work with the server team, and the Lubuntu and Studio flavor dev teams
so :P

nice, what did you work on for example?

Wow! How can one become a volunteer for Ubuntu?
@ThomasWard You mean backend development ?

voluntarily provide stuff to the Ubuntu project as a whole.
@dessert for which team? Server team, it was nginx. Ubuntu Studio team, I'm the designated uploader/reviewer for New packages that aren't in the repos anywhere. Lubuntu team, I do a little of everything, but I also help run their infra and help look after security concerns in some of the packages.
and I do general bug triage everywhere
as well as upload sponsoring now that I have coredev
@TheLittleNaruto software development, not necessarily 'backend' dev.
Server Team maintains the Ubuntu Server flavor/ISOs and many of the Server packages. Lubuntu is all the Lubuntu flavor of Ubuntu. Ubuntu Studio is the Studio flavor of Ubuntu.

@damadam please make images clickable, especially if they have small text

6:47 PM
Jack of all trades, basically :P
but i digress

@ThomasWard Interesting! Any suggestions for a guy who just got started with GNU/Linux and Ubuntu?

7:05 PM
erm
@TheLittleNaruto read through wiki.ubuntu.com/ContributeToUbuntu to see various ways to contribute. If you're new, I'd just keep using Ubuntu and learn what you can first.
i've been using Ubuntu since 2009 so I have a lot of experience under my belt to do what i do heh

7:20 PM
@ThomasWard dude you're on core dev now? Congrats!

@ThomasWard Okay thank will check that out
Time to sleep now, later o/

Take care @TheLittleNaruto!

@Seth \o

7:54 PM
@Seth have been for a while heh
since June :P

June is fairly recent for me :P

Core Dev just gives me a LOT of upload privs everywhere
NEW packages, etc.

only 4 months lol

as well as unrestricted uploading to the queues :P
so instead of being restricted to just nginx i can help all over the repos
including sponsoring :P

yeah so you're the guy I ping :P

7:55 PM
lol

There was a time... but not really anymore :(
We needed a new sponsor for UTT, but then unity got dropped so it doesn't really matter anymore..

8:45 PM
yeah i haven't done much in the realm of Core Dev much, but it does give me full sponsorship power
and the Studio team likes having me around
for packaging questions, Python questions, reviews, sponsoring where needed, my input, etc.
even though I don't primarily dev for Studio, I like helping :)
