@Jodamo117 I wouldn't say that. For some types of work I need silence too, e. g. understanding someone else's maths

@Jodamo117 Yeah. I tend to write with music, myself. As long as it doesn't have lyrics. Either Jazz or, sometimes, Classical.

@terdon Same here. At least for natural languages. Coding with music is no problem.

maybe its just different character types. I do like music when I exercise

Though I rarely write more than a page of the former at a time these days.

Q: which web server is used after installing Jitsi meet via quick install method?

XaqronI've installed Jitsi-meet on Ubuntu Server 16.04.1 via quick install method. In verbose guide nginx is used as web server. I figured out the process listening on port 443 as below: # netstat -nlp | grep :443 tcp6 0 0 :::443 :::* LISTEN 3867/java It is a production r...

11:03 AM
^^ how do these populate?

If it's silent, often I start to hear the music in my head after some time anyway.^^

@DavidFoerster what kind?

@Jodamo117 That's an automatic feed posting questions tagged from Unix & Linux

@ByteCommander so the if is Ubuntu?

What?

11:05 AM
@Jodamo117 yes

if Ubuntu then post here

@Jodamo117 Depends. Rock, metal, jazz, classical, electronic. There's definitely a skew to things I listened to recently.

@DavidFoerster that's pretty eclectic.

@Jodamo117 My favourite music includes elements from all of them. That's why I listen to a lot of progressive and post-metal.
Talented pop-rock musicians like Muse are also very good at this.

11:09 AM
post-metal? Hadn't heard the title before. Now I'm curious.
I like Muse
They have the computer guitar

A good example for what I mean might be The Ocean. I'm trying to find some of their stuff on YT but most of it is blocked in Germany. Maybe you have more luck: youtube.com/watch?v=JfZMTDcqKnQ
There's also an instrumental version of that album, if you're more into that: youtube.com/watch?v=9L7YSrQmVDw (many of their fans and post-metal fans in general prefer it that way)

@ParanoidPanda I've updated the answer with the changes required. check that

@DavidFoerster It's blocked here too. Maybe a hoxx but I wouldnt know what region.
@DavidFoerster this one works

"Pelagial" is a concept album exploring the decent into the depths of the ocean (and the mind on a metaphorical level), so it starts out pretty lightly and becomes heavier and finally more sluggish over time.

neat concept. I can see (hear) how this could be good work music.

11:17 AM
Hi, is @NathanOsman here?

@Numi no

@Numi there's a roll to the right

OK. Thanks. :)

The slow and heavy style at the is appropriately called "doom metal" (in case you haven't heard that yet) and, yes, there are bands who play that exclusively.

@DavidFoerster I hadn't. I like the build up then drop.
What language do they sing in on the blocked one

11:22 AM
english
(the accent of singer sounds a little funny at times because he's swiss-french)

that is a bit unique. I used to get a kick out of it when I lived in Paris. but to be fair, they hated my American accent

the french just don't like america that much for historical political reasons…
they even prefer the brits to americans now even though the former two used to be opposing empires.

True. I got along well in my neighborhood but my accent and vocabulary were always fair game

about the lyrics: the music was written without any lyrics in mind. they were only added later when the instrumentalists met the singer who became interested in their music.

seems like it would be a task to add lyrics to this style.

11:30 AM
that also led to the album being divided into individual tracks/pieces. originally it didn't really occur to the band because their "primary" medium for release would have been LP which doesn't have tracks anyway.
well… LP have one track. two if you count both sides.^^

i'm at 17min. they're getting on it

11:55 AM
nite

Good night @Jodamo117

@Jodamo117 Good night!

I am not going anywhere~

@jokerdino Auto-complete fail… Both your names start with "jo".

haha, understandable.

12:26 PM
sun's come out in London and I've already got 3 upvotes that didn't pay out because I reached the unicorn dollar limit... must be time to go for a walk :)

@Zanna I could downvote you, if you like.
See, I'm always here for you!

that doesn't help, you still get no more dollars after you gained 200

However, for whatever reason now, when booting, the grub menu isn't even shown anymore and the syste...

Q: Seek the difference

user72216Not trying to start a dispute here, but I need clarity: I ran into this question: How to record bash terminal output?, In which OP asks how to save terminal output into a file. I therefore marked it as a dupe of: How do I save the output of a command to a file?. Also the accepted answer total...

12:37 PM
@Zanna only one of those is mine.

thanks for voting <3

@Zanna Sure, but you get the satisfaction of making it back up there again ;)

user591857I think you sould probably first delete the folder "System32" that can be found in your root folder

how is it?

@Anwar - 1) Doesn't answer the question 2) There isn't even a System32 folder in the root DIR 3) That would brick a Windows machine
@Anwar Yeah, that doesn't make sense.

yes. but those are characteristics of spam ... i'm not sure
-1 voted however :)

Haha seen their reply to your comment !

now flagged as spam
and his comment too! as obsolete

2:38 PM
@terdon I think it does not go up again until the next day, but disinclined to test ;)

huh! 4 badges today... not bad

Nice! Which ones?

@Zanna Did you see their latest comment?

Nice Answer, Enlightened, Good Answer, Reviewer
I wish I had deletion power.
I voted to delete. needs 2 more delete votes i think
@AndroidDev don't reply him. he's wasting your time

@AndroidDev hmm don't feed it
I flagged for mod (hope you don't mind, mods)

@Seth - Can you nuke from orbit? askubuntu.com/a/822129/518562

Done.

Is there a puff of smoke and a sizzling sound when you mod-reap something?

So... Canonical drones.
Why? Why is Canonical sticking their greedy little fingers in every market? They made a huge thing already. Why the fascination with early IoT adoption?

Huh, what?
Drones... where?

sounds interesting

3:01 PM
got an ad mail about it today

Meh - I don't see that as appealing to consumers much.

@KazWolfe 404?

They took it down?
Weird...
I want a plugin that submits sites automatically to the Internet Archive

either way, Canonical is a software company. Why wouldn't they want people to use their software?

they're just throwing it eveywhere
especially where it really shouldn't be going, like drones.

and why shouldn't it be?
That's exactly what ubuntu core was designed for.

3:33 PM
eh, i just say they should stay with what they do very well -- desktops and servers.
this exclusive cross-platform integration is really annoying at most times.

fair enough.

I mean, they have an amazing product already. Yeah, it would be nice to push open Linux to everything, but that shouldn't be Canonical's goal here.

How much you want to bet the OP didn't enable VT-X? askubuntu.com/questions/822107/ubuntu-16-04-lags-in-vm/…

And when people (looking at Apple and MS, and now Canonical) are allowed to create these exclusive device links for notifications and the like... It discourages technological progress and freedom.
Yeah, canonical is better because I'd hope they let anyone borrow their platform, but still...

4:09 PM
Hi all :)

Hi :)

Didn't take more than a minute.

For what?

lol, was counting how long it takes for someone to say hi back to tux.

4:16 PM
Hehe I peeked in at the right moment... just finished work...

I have a question.
Here is what I want to achieve :
There is some c program, I compile it , run it. I want whatever happens on the terminal (O/P of the program ) appended as comment to the main program (/* */). Its something like.. I want "tee" command (or anything else) to watch STDin ,STDout and STDerr and all should be written to a file as well as displayed on the screen. Is this possible ?

heads out to food. Wheewwbye

Enjoy @jokerdino :D

@jokerdino have a tasty meal :)

@SeverusTux Basic: ./compiled >> compiled.c
Must figure out how to put it into comments.

4:19 PM
No . That wont work as expected
that is,
The terminal screen would look like this:

@BharadwajRaju ./a.out 2>&1 >>program.c

That's it for the output at least

No, that wont print anything on terminal

You're right. ./a.out |& tee -a prog.c

4:22 PM
@Arronical hmm... good question.

Saving stdin too is a bit more difficult. Where does stdin come from?

keyboard
For example, this is my output
[severus@Tux mergesort]$ ./a.out

Enter number of elements : 3

Sorted array is

846930886
1681692777
1804289383
Time taken = 0.000018[

@Arronical not sure. askUbuntu is the site to ask his question i think

But this is what happens if we do what you suggested @DavidFoerster:

[severus@Tux mergesort]$ ./a.out |& tee -a output
3

Enter number of elements :
Sorted array is

846930886
1681692777
1804289383
Time taken = 0.000015[severus@Tux mergesort]$
first it will wait for the input, than it will show what was supposed to be shown before
and also output wont contain the input "3"

24
Q: How do I log all input and output in a terminal session?

AnkitHow do I keep logs of all the work done via terminal? For example, I want a record of all the work done on database via terminal.

4:27 PM
@Anwar the OP is obviously frustrated at not receiving any answers to previous questions, but not sure if this question would be considered OT as Rhythmbox is part of Ubuntu.
Ah, someone's given them a handy link in a comment.
I'm off, farewell everyone.

bye @Arronical

wowowowow! I didn't know that command. thank you very much@DavidFoerster :D

@SeverusTux Here is a sort-of solution: printf '/*%s/*' $(./compiled 2>&1) >> compiled.c

Its not printing the input (in this case "3")
:(

The input? Ah, that's tricky.

4:41 PM
With the help of script
echo '/*' >>program.c ; script -q -c ./a.out -a program.c ; echo '*/'>>program.c
working :D ;D ;D

@Serg Nice.

Wow! @Serg Awesome...!
@DavidFoerster I am curious, what is the diff b/w echo "hi" |& tee file and echo "hi" | tee file
?

@jokerdino deleting the whole q is an option :P

5:27 PM
@jokerdino - I think the whole Q should be nuked from orbit.
As Rinzwind said.

What kind of a q is that?

a bad one

@Anwar has this person tried everything? We need to dupe this but make sure people can find the right answers? @jokerdino maybe Anwar's answer was better than the one we picked? I'm on mobile so it's hard to see anything askubuntu.com/questions/822195/…

@Rinzwind @jokerdino - I can smell it burning :)

Is the only problem with the question is the sensitive details?

nah the q is not worth it either :D
and has nothing to do with ubuntu

@jokerdino I second Rinzwind's stance.

I deleted 4090 chars .... probably the most ever I edited >:D

5:30 PM
@Rinzwind O_O

@Rinzwind I suppose you are right.

stop complaining and eat that damn cookie :)
@AndroidDev at 1st glance... no.

@Rinzwind @AndroidDev looks like he is copying essential parts of the answer from the link

2nd glance: no. I think that would warrant a NEW answer but he just copy/pasted
1st answer should be removed as "link only"

@Seth Which... is good?
@Rinzwind Who's "s"?

that depends. I approved this one because it did look good.

@AndroidDev nope. that is copyright infringement

ok it seriously improved the answer. true. But it is a copy/paste. Generally I'd expect someone to type it in his own words

Q: Visual Studio Code doesn't start

Honza NijakýIt shows the icon for a while on the taskbar, but it disappears and doesn't do anything. I will give info in request, I just don't know what. I am using vscode 1.4.0, but 1.1.0 doesn't work either. Also the code command returns the help when requested and the version, but gives errors when asked ...

visual studio? :P

@Rinzwind Nah, it's legit!

@Rinzwind naw

MS VS? :D

@Rinzwind - I actually have it on another machine...

trying to watch my sugar intake :P

5:37 PM
@Seth I can help with that!

@Zanna I don't know which one was selected as master. Can't be sure. however, left a comment there asking if they tried the solution

zero sugar ->

@Rinzwind - See that ^^^ link.

aha
i use aptana :=D

5:39 PM
@Rinzwind I use Eclipse

hm
never tried it.

@Rinzwind IntelliJ is pretty good too...

@jokerdino not at all, I can see you were busy, seems to be a day for mod hammers

Visual Studio Code actually isn't that bad.
I don't use it often, but it is installed.

do any of these support remote ftp?

5:40 PM
@Anwar great, that should do it...

@Seth Except for the fact that I don't know C++, so it's kinda just taking up disk space.

@AndroidDev It supports more than C++.

@Seth Does it support Java?

aptana is funky with python. for some weird reasons my lines get mixed indentations :P

@Rinzwind I don't like that Python forces indentation.

5:43 PM
1 star from me

@Rinzwind - But then, I don't like that Java needs a JRE either :P

@AndroidDev not a choice. at work my boss picked the language.
And since we used to code in BASIC Python is the better option for most of my co-workers ;-)

@Rinzwind But it's pretty good overall I guess for an interpreted language.
@Rinzwind BASIC? O_O

@AndroidDev yes. we still have code made in it. our old software started in the 80s.
back then BASIC was a standard :P

@Zanna dropped a comment linking OP to both the questions.

5:45 PM
@jokerdino thanks :) :)

@Anwar do you like your answer be merged with the master or leave it where it be?

I starred your message

Lol

@jokerdino lol

5:47 PM
Looks like my top answer is going to end up being "don't do that!" 14 upvotes over the limit today & counting

Someone's going to get a laugh out of that :)

Did already @AndroidDev

Someone should NOT star this message.

@AndroidDev Not sure. I'll check.

@Seth pls clear stars

5:48 PM
@jokerdino what you suggest?

@KazWolfe cheap star farming.

i explicitly said don't star it.
and people do.
;-;

@jokerdino :)

((:
@Anwar Depends if you want a -15 on an unaccept.

@jokerdino leave it then :)

5:49 PM
@AndroidDev yeah it supports Java.

it removes the need for {}'s and semicolons at the end of code.
So I get more lines on screen then with other languages. More lines on screen is good :=)

@Seth Hmm. Maybe I'll have to look at it again. Link?

But you might get more upvotes in the long run @Anwar and your answer is the best one imo

@Anwar but your answer will no longer get exposure.

@Rinzwind Just get a 4K monitor

5:51 PM
@Rinzwind more lines = more advanced code = better coder

@jokerdino I knew :)... ok merge it . @Zanna thanks

If it was me I'd take the -15 for reasons both altruistic and mercenary hehehe

@Anwar refresh with a heavy heart

@jokerdino huh! I believe the newer one should be the master :P

5:55 PM
no takebacksies.

:(
I believe it will pay off. If not, I owe you 15 points... what question can I ask that you'd like to answer ?? ;)

@jokerdino i think, this should be the answer actually :) askubuntu.com/a/710859/61218

No!

good afternoon!!
