12:07 AM
Guys, what are those on/off buttons called ?
toggle buttons ?
Aha . . . Gtk switch

lol

gosh, brain i do not

as in pinky and?

NARF

BARF

12:10 AM
FRAB

GRAB
What do you guys think of this ?
Bar style of icon
use bars to indicate usage

meh
oops
accidentally clicked Leave Open for an OT question

remember the title ?

12:26 AM
Check my first Leave Open for today

Hmmm . . .how about circles ?

wut
OK CVs done

@Zacharee1 can you make me a circular icon ? the 75 percent filled circle

uh not tonight sorry :(

oh . . ok . . . next time then

12:38 AM
@Mateo port 8025, I don't know how to install it - all I did was upload it to MyApps.

hm...
arm compiled?
or for the "ubuntu-core" kit?
huh, I don't see it in uappexplorer anymore

Lemme look.
It's amd64. Do you need the arm version?
I can probably upload that.

@Zacharee1 le cvs done

yehs

Installing snapcraft on my Pi...
Sometimes I forget just how much faster the Pi2 is than the original Pi. Four cores and 1 GB of RAM really does make a difference.

12:47 AM
@Zacharee1 the first posts queue is a nightmare to go through

no thx im good

but you need to get le gold badge

@NathanOsman ah, yeah. that will probably do it

Fscking this ! This is what i want . . . AAAARG
Why there's no easy way to have 48x48 icon in there ?

12:53 AM
turn the icons into a font, each as a letter, print the letter, change the font for the letter, and make it like 48 point size and change color

O_o

you can put .svg files right into it

I can't figure out how this works...

OK I have no idea how to study for this test
I'll just have to hope I can get an 80 at least

@Mateo do you know how this works for multiple architectures?

12:59 AM
@Zacharee1 USH?

@NathanOsman click on the version, scroll down and hit publish - add changelog if you want

@Zacharee1 what is your test about

US History still
ahh

I think they made it so you can publish multiple at the same time now, before you had to shove them all in the same one -
@NathanOsman try and see if it keeps the stable tag next to both

1:03 AM
@Zacharee1 glhf

heh

@NathanOsman oh, none of those say stable nest to them

Sigh . . . . how am I supposed to represent disk usage if i only can use small icons ?

1:19 AM
@Mateo it already says published...
The button next to it says "unpublish"

█████▒░░░░ 55%
@NathanOsman try bumping the version
or making a separate name for the arm version

Lemme see what I can do...

I think the other alternative is something like how the clicks do:

Daym
@Mateo that's pretty cool

this one looks nice: ▰▰▰▰▰▱▱▱▱▱ 55%

1:28 AM
@Mateo woah

I like the solid ones, kind of shows "illusion" of an image

and you might be able to do some magic coding on the text color depending on the % ;) if you get what i'm saying

@Mateo Try it now.
I unpublished and then published again and the arm one is green now.

@Mateo looks pretty good. I think i owe you a beer now :)

1:31 AM
not too bad, just give it a space after the text before and I think that will be quite nice

@Serg Just be sure to put a space between the numbers and the progress bar.
@Mateo Lol, beat me to it :P

that was just a test. i'll be polishing it much more

Well @KazWolfe, you did it. You made Twitter.
“WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T POST THIS TO TWITTER OR THERE WILL BE NO MORE BACON” — Kaz Wolfe http://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/201?m=32613705#32613705
There is now no more bacon.

Hi

@SQuirel hello.

1:36 AM

@Serg looks gud

maaan, even after making a bounty nobody even commented on my question
I think I'll never know

@IanC what question

Q: Nagle's Algorithm, ACK Delay and Rlogin echo

IanCI'm reading about TCP data flow, Delayed ACK and Nagle's Algorithm. So far I understand that: The Delayed ACK implementation on TCP creates a delay on the acknowledgement of segments received to give the opportunity for the application to write some data along with the acknowledgement, thus av...

I'm not sure, is Server Fault the place for questions about TCP/IP protocols?

Stack Overflow might be better.
Especially if we're dealing with very specific questions about the protocol.

1:41 AM
should I make another question there?
It's a bit specific I guess
at first I thought it would fit better either ServerFault or Network Engineering, but Stack Overflow makes sense too now that you mentioned it

Does anyone know anything about ncmpcpp?

@NathanOsman not coming up in snap find

'Cracking' questions ok? Easy enough to answer but..... : askubuntu.com/q/831394/57576

@IanC i agree SO would be a better place. as an example, stackoverflow.com/questions/1040462/unclear-on-nagles-algorithm

@Mateo Argh.

1:48 AM
Is there a sort of theme-neutral icon folder , which gtk recognize ?

I really wish they'd improve the docs.
@Serg Yup.
/usr/share/pixmaps

@NathanOsman are you just favoriting everything CC tweets?

Pretty much :P

@edwinksl great! I'll make a question on SO and wish I get luckier

Hmmm . . .I tried saving a 48x48 icon there . . . but the gtk.Image.new_from_icon_name() doesn't recognize it

1:50 AM
might even link the ServerFault question in case the answer wants to claim the bounty there, otherwise the 50rep will go to outterspace

I sort of use that as a criteria for helping decide what gets tweeted. "Is this something I would favorite?" If not, probably not worth tweeting. If so, then I favorite it :D

@andrew.46 heh, up to you, at least it is not super clear to me if OP is doing illegal things or not

@NathanOsman i was the first ever post lol

That wasn't the first.
But you're famous anyway.

WHAT

A: Is Nagle Algorithm and delayed ACK used for bulk data?

John NagleThe idea of the Nagle algorithm was to prevent more than one undersized packet from being in transit at a time. The idea of delayed ACKs (which came from Berkeley) was to avoid sending a lone ACK for each character received when typing over a Telnet connection with remote echo, by waiting a fixe...

Nagle himself answered that dude??

1:55 AM
lol
i mean, we also have shuttleworth answering questions from time to time

Yup, famous people are still people

see, even sergod talks to us mere mortals

<.< wat ?

lolz
@Serg is awesome

Thank you, I do enjoy the attention ! :) Though , i'm not that good

1:58 AM
@Serg rly
notgud
hahahatehjokez

OK, back to breaking my head with gtk icons

they are not loading?

@Zacharee1 you totally sound like you are dreading that history test

@edwinksl ihdc

They're loading alright. Problem is that Gtk shows icons from custom file in very very small size. If I specify stock icon, I can show up to 48x48 icon

2:00 AM
@Zacharee1 then it has to be MC time like nao

@IanC
If I throw my icon into /usr/share/pixmaps folder , it's not treated as stock icon

@edwinksl yep, Kaz and I are playing around rn
or at least trying

@Serg Wait, what?

but are you using them on the Unity panel? Or on some other part of the GUI?

my MC keeps crashing

2:02 AM

@Zacharee1 windows?

Yes, but MultiMC
and it worked in 1.11 just a few minutes ago
now 1.10 is all screwed up

alright, I posted the question on SO too, crossing fingers

Q: Nagle's Algorithm, ACK Delay and Rlogin echo

IanCI was suggested to ask here too, since specific questions about protocols are on-topic, but in case anyone is interested the question also has a small bounty on ServerFault. I'm reading about TCP data flow, Delayed ACK and Nagle's Algorithm. So far I understand that: The Delayed ACK implement...

maybe Nagle himself will answer me :D

Hehe, let's hope so

Or Mr. ACK.
:)

2:08 AM
@IanC you might want to remove the one in server fault in case your SO post gets closed for being crossposted

is it against the rules if it's on topic on both sites?

SO is pretty aggressive for removing crossposts in my experience
i have raised several mod flags about crossposts in SO and they inevitably get removed

@IanC pretty much it's an unspoken rule :)

won't even see the bounty timeout :/
well, I'll delete it then
"Questions with open bounties cannot be deleted"

@IanC oops

2:21 AM
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

remember to escape backslash

what does backslash do here?

you use it to escape *
lol
*lol*
and a bunch of other things

got it

reddit also uses markdown, so naturally, they talk about this reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/3fbrg3/…
@Jakuub well you've have 3 years to improve it. If you don't have the time, then don't answer. — Zacharee1 6 hours ago
@Zacharee1 ^ lol

2:39 AM
:)

I found something this morning, but didn't write it down . . . . mmmmmmm . . . .one of those moments

@NathanOsman no, the "FOR THE MOTHERLAND" thing was me

Mkay, I'm off the clock , so going home . . .

Oh that one.
But it wasn't tweeted by my fancy app, so it doesn't count :D

3:17 AM
@edwinksl 'reaver' is in the repositories :)

Q: AskUbuntu pages are returning an error when connected to Opera's built in VPN

anon58192932The issue is simple. When I navigate to: Why do pages not load in any browser after updating Ubuntu 12.04? I can load it as expected. When I toggle on Opera's built in VPN I get: Page Not Found We're sorry, we couldn't find the page you requested. My external IP address when connected to the ...

good night everyone!

hey nathan

Yup.
I'm probably going to be awake four hours from now too.
I stay up pretty late :D

4:22 AM
@NathanOsman gtalk for a minute?

Sure.

GO TO HELL SE CHAT!
I give up

okay well that wasn't as great as the title made it seem.

4:45 AM
How's this , guys ?
Already pushed this off to git, since I'll probably stick with unicode squares and stuff

It gets the job done.

5:19 AM
wow. wrote code blind and my entire server didn't blow up. cool.

@KazWolfe Sysadmin level . . . over 9000

it's a good feeling when code you write without testing works

Q: How do I trust a system icon?

enobayramSometimes, I notice a notification icon indicating pending updates, or just the update manager pops up, asking to download some updates. Then, when I want to go through with it, I'm asked for my password. At this point, how do I know that the icon and the window I'm interacting with are indeed co...

Anyone got ideas on this one? :D

figure out the PID of that icon, and find out what process corresponds to that icon

5:59 AM
hey @edwinksl we both got the badge today! congratulations to you!
