10:00 PM
i say go for it ;)
but be aware of beijing's shitty air

It's only shitty in winter , summer is alright
We have been there for 3 days

and i hope AU is not blocked by GFW

Maybe I'm gonna apply there for the lulz , but I seriously doubt they will take it seriously

@Serg You're right that they probably want a local, but you never know and you can only benefit by applying no matter what happens

well if you apply for the "lulz" who would?

10:03 PM
the world runs on the lulz , everybody wants them

sigh

is it that easy to find a local who is fluent in verbal and written english
i say our very own @Serg fits the bill

@Serg? Fluent? HA! :p

yo yo , fluent as a muthafusa , fo sho , yolo swag 360 noscope blazit

you forgot l33t hax0r, ur mum, and some others

10:06 PM
¯_(ツ)_/¯
god damn the missing left arm

@TheBrownOne down to 10
@edwinksl copy the slash so there are two

yeah i forget this chat runs markdown

Where's my slang dictionary ? It's about to get hot in here

@Seth Ban @Serg! Ban @Serg!
Before he finds the slang!
@Serg you're certainly not fluent in old modern English
1 hour ago, by Serg
@ParanoidPanda doeth though have time , oh noble fluffy creature ?

@Zacharee1 doeth thou protest too much ?

10:08 PM
Dost thou enough time have, oh noble, fluffy creature?

user136984
Ah, finally I am back to 11k again! :D

And also, "thou, thee, thy, thine, etc" are seen as referring to lower class, either lower or equal to yourself
Quakers use(d) them because the belief is everyone is equal and "you" implied talking to a higher class

@Shog9 you pinged?
Sorry, I went out of coverage for a sec. there.

@TheBrownOne still here?

“This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.”
― William Shakespeare, Hamlet
Polonius to his son
royalty to royalty, and still thine is used

10:11 PM
But father to son

user136984
Can anybody tell me which place I am in for the primaries? Anyone who has that app or whatever it is that calculates it...

and I said equal class use thee thine, etc

@Zacharee1 yet it's same class
noble , royal class
no ?

@ParanoidPanda holding strong in 10th

user136984
Oh, well that's good at least! :D

10:13 PM
@Zacharee1 am I still 5th ?

@Serg yes, but they're the same class, and then there's the matter of respect of father to son
@Serg yurp

I did indeed post to the wrong room.
Oh I think I see what happened.

That's what i thought

@NathanOsman lol

That's easier than it should be on mobile.
Sorry guys.

10:14 PM
@NathanOsman tsk
@Serg they're both royalty, so the same class. In this case, the father will talk to the son using thee thine thou because of the equal class.

@Nat tsk tsk

However

user136984
Ah! I've got an idea! Let's all DDoS the SE network until the primaries are over so that I don't move out of 10th place! ;P

user139252
@Zacharee1 Yeah, that's fine.

If the son were to talk to the father, he would use "you"
Because elders are on a higher sub-class than younger people
@TheBrownOne thx
@TheBrownOne can I send you that deployment script?
@ParanoidPanda yeah!

user139252
10:15 PM
What do I need to do for it beforehand?

user136984
There is definitely a bug with the pinging system... Old pings keep on appearing... Haunting me... :D

user139252
Right now I have nothing more than a completely unmodded spigot server.

@TheBrownOne curl

user139252
What port is MC running on, again?

Can I get someone on Ubuntu 16.04 to run "sudo apt-get install mercurial" and then "hg --version"?
I get this bug, and I can't understand why. It's the weirdest thing. It says it installs 3.7 but I get 3.8! https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mercurial/+bug/1591748

10:16 PM
I'm going to have to give you some direction on moving the sever to where it needs to be
25565 @TheBrownOne
my computer just beeped at me and idk why

I must have two versions of mercurial installed... one in /usr/local/bin/hg
How do I delete that "extra" version? I could just "rm" it but I'm sure I got it as part of a package
dpkg -S /usr/local/bin/hg
dpkg-query: no path found matching pattern /usr/local/bin/hg

I guess no package is claiming this file

I can't believe i actually applied

@Serg i think you can thank this chat for egging you on :D

10:20 PM
Peer pressure : making things happen since the 70s

Only that recent? :D

@edwinksl frankly , i do thank the chat
@NathanOsman i'd have to read up on Hamlet to know for sure

Silk Road?
Isn't that a dark web black market?

user136984
@Zacharee1: Wait, have you changed your profile picture again or was that a different person? :D

changing

10:22 PM
There was something like that , but that was a tor node . This is a legitimate website
or is it ? dun dun duuuuun

user136984
I sell bamboo on the blackmarket. You want some? :P

Wikipedia lists it as silkroad6ownowfk.onion[

with an open bracket?

No, that's my messup

10:24 PM
now why did I look that up....

because yolo that's why

sigh

I'd seriously be surprised if suse takes me as intern , lol
not in a million years

it doesn't matter. the more times you go after something like this, the more it will lead to unexpected contacts and connections that will lead to something else you didn't know about.

@chaskes well said

10:27 PM
@edwinksl thx. It's 'cause I'm old.

i wouldn't say "old". "wise" is a better descriptor

Actually that's very true. The yolo factor is exactly how i started with Ubuntu

Well, I might label myself a weisenheimer, but if I went around saying "I'm wise" then I wouldn't be. ;)

I'm just plain old :)

@Videonauth Is weisenheimer a real German word.
@NathanOsman You're wise, but you are not old.

10:31 PM
How would one day wise old man in german ?

@chaskes it's used in English sometimes.

Let's see . . .in Chinese that would be 老智者。。。maybe

@NathanOsman I know. I just used it above. ;) I'm just not sure if it's a real word we borrowed or coinage just meant to sound German.

老学家 could work too

modern day zhuge liang

@JonathanLeaders i don't use hg myself :/
hopefully someone in this chat does

@edwinksl are you on 16.04?

yeah

Could you just run these two commands for me?

sudo apt-get install mercurial
hg --version

and tell me what version installs, and what verison hg says you got?

I get 3.7, and 3.8 respectively on 16.04
I just want to verify I'm not doing something wrong
@edwinksl

Hello, all! Is this the right place to ask about reputation? I guess I am unsure why I lost 15 points for an answer that was voted up.

@PSmith What is the question/answer

user136984
Goodnight! :)

@onebree .. Hi! It was "How do I enable vertical scrolling in LibreOffice?" Very simple. I just answered with the "View>Scrollbars..." Here's the link ->
http://askubuntu.com/questions/786631/how-to-activate-scroll-bar-in-libreoffice-writer-on-16-04/786633#786633

@PSmith that's because you may have been selected as the acepted answer... But I see that Panda answered his own question later on

@onebree interesting... I see, right it was originally the accepted answer. Now it's not... so more of a revocation than a penalty, I guess?

10:51 PM
@Serg it says it'll install 3.7 but, on my machine, the binary identifies itself as 3.8 ( hg --version )

Anonymous
@PSmith correct. It undid the rep you earned.

So when this happens, any privileges gained by that amount of reputation would be lost then, too.. If this happened after One had started a chat, commented someplace, etc... would this uno those actions too?

that's from hired.com

@PSmith correct. Your privs are tied to your rep, not granted forever once you reach a level

Got it. Thank you for your time and info! :)

Why only $10? That is not enough for $30K

@onebree i thought it was 10$ per hour . . . not 10 k

SierraThis question: how to retrive only needed line from terminal output? I am kind of shocked by it. Basically they are asking: How to print Nth line? Surely this has been asked before? But, instead of: downvotes closing holding deleting This question has flourished?: 7 answers 8 upvote...

Are you a mod or room owner here or elsewhere on stack overflow? I would say that you help others on this site

Not a mod, but running in mod elections this year on AU
currently 5th in the run

Anonymous
i think linked in it is overrated in my opinion

Anonymous
You should blow some minds and use the stackoverflow CV

Anonymous
It is more relevant for programming, etc anyway.

Anonymous
Also, saying you know chinese but "limited" sounds like "this guy is jut trying to put stuff down"

Anonymous
11:10 PM
idk if you can see it, but this is my stackoverflow cv stackoverflow.com/jobs/cv/employer/279973

@onebree that's just me being modest . . .plus it's one of the options on the linkedin . . . second best is "professional working proficiency " and I don't think I am at professional level
So, what would be a good salary number to put there ?
40k ?

Anonymous
what is the job? Or do they find matches for you?

they find matches

Anonymous
I would put $35K USD but that is just me

That's an oddly specific number

Anonymous
11:14 PM
probably some ratio

Anonymous
wait, LEET

O.o that's it !

@NathanOsman Ouch. Wish I could give you my nice weather :p

@ThomasW. give him a nice song - that's about the same

@Serg I could send him a rain poncho :)
but yes

Good idea , express mail it to him

11:39 PM

next day air drop :)

@ThomasW. let me just open my paypal account

lol
@ThomasW. raindrop

So in an interesting twist... it does look like I can get the OnePlus after all.

we were punny three months ago, and still are punny, too. :P kinda funny how puns are ;)

11:42 PM
Apparently it supports WCDMA band 4.

Tim
Where are you with the bad rain?

West coast of Canada.

@NathanOsman it supports CDMA now, yes

oh customs too... that's an extra $15

Tim
In Cambridge, UK it's been on and off sunny and hot then absolutely pouring...

11:43 PM
WCDMA. It's different. Apparently.

So it can work in Canada ?

CDMA2000 1xEV-DO - North America
So it does 2G
and WCDMA is 3G
Although not CDMA 3G... weird
oh, but EVDO is CDMA 3G

OK, we get it Zach !
You know mobile stuff

@Serg no!
you'll never get it!
never
:p

borrows ban hammer from Seth Come here, Zach , I'm not gonna hurt ya . . .I'm just gonna ban ya . . .really really hard . . .

11:49 PM
o.O
@Serg erm...

the "Ban Them HARRRRRRRRRDDDDDD" chapter

@ThomasW. Joker from suicide squad reference

:P
yes, but I have an evil streak in that IRC channel

You can borrow my hammer.

Anonymous
is suicide squad out yet?

of being a "hard moderator"

11:50 PM
@onebree should be out this summer ?!

It has a small dent in it from "the incident of '09" but...

user139252
@Zacharee1 Okay, so I have 8443 opened up to my MC 443, 2422 opened up to my MC 22, and the regular Minecraft port opened up.

@NathanOsman incident of '09 ? please do tell !

I made that up.
Chat wasn't around in '09.

aw , an i just got my popcornz ready

11:52 PM
Lol.

@TheBrownOne idk if that will work. I think you need to have 8443 go to 8443 and 2422 go to 2422, but I guess we can try

user139252
It'll be fine as long as my server is listening on the right ports

user139252
You really don't know how port forwarding works, do you? :P

No, I know how it works
But
This backend might need the ports to be the same all across to work. The config sets itself to listen on the same ports the panel sends data on. You'll probably have to edit the config

bu you don't do you ?

user139252
11:55 PM
My router listens for requests on port 2422, routes those to port 22 on the MC host. So, external devices think it's open on 2422, even though it's actually open on 22

@Serg I know it better than you know English

user139252
So, everything outside of my local network needs to look for port 2422, so the backend will work fine

So doeth it seemeth

user139252
Because 2422 is actually 22

@TheBrownOne yeah, but Scales is going to try to listen on 2422 and 8443

user139252
11:55 PM
Not if I tell it otherwise.

You'll have to edit the config after you set it up
this script will auto-generate a config
which you will need to edit

user139252

user139252
