5:00 PM
The upcoming release is backwards compatible with the previous one so it won't be a big problem.

So XP people will still be able to use the service for now?

And it is still theoretically possible to build for XP - it just isn't officially supported anymore.

all five of them?

@Zacharee1 absolutely.

@Serg reply "I'm a person not a ppl!"

5:02 PM
@Seth lol

Five XP users is still three more than the number of BlackBerry users in the world.

(+100 brownie points for whoever gets the reference)

@Seth but what if @Serg is a ppl?

With my multiple personalities , i am probably ppl

@NathanOsman shots fired
@Serg O_o

5:03 PM
@NathanOsman Obama stopped using it?

he's one of the two
Bush didn't want to give his up

It was in the news

so he's the other
?

It was in our national newspaper.

what was

The founder of RIM and his mom :D

"He can’t make calls, send texts, play music or take pictures for security reasons"
So . . .what's the point of a phone if it cannot make calls ?

@Serg and they call it phone

@jokerdino so make it one user

@Serg probably incoming only.

5:05 PM
@Serg it was most likely a joke

oh . . . well there goes my sense of humor

poof
just like Blackberries

Why can't he play music?

You can embed malware in music

I don't know. He plays basketball mostly.

5:08 PM
Just ask panda
He probably has an a-ha rootkit somewhere

> Panda: Eats shoots and leaves.
That panda?

The paranoid one

how'd you get that video of him?!

sneaked one when he was busy eating

5:12 PM
we hacked into Panda's Gnome and posted his webcam IP on the web

leave it to @Serg to be creepy

at your service

But didn't he have that tape over his webcam?

Scotch tape? The transparent stuff?

they used IR and then colored it
@NathanOsman not so transparent in front of a camera

5:15 PM
I use scotch tap. It works.

how ironic, question asked by panda himself
Fool prof way of disabling the cam ? Use a computer that doesnt have a webcam
duuuuh

I use Linux. It never works.

ooh I should switch to electrical tape though. Blends in better.

5:16 PM
lol

@jokerdino Just ask @Rinzwind

Then you'll never use the camera again @seth
Electrical tape will leave adhesive behind

help

wat

5:17 PM
what?

I left a comment on Casey's vlog and now it is getting replies. and upvotes.
My poor inbox.

xD
unsub?

@Zacharee1 I know.
Not like I use it now.
I have a nice USB one.
@Zacharee1 hah!

my anxiety would never let me do that

@BharadwajRaju well we could always cut the wires that go to the cam

5:18 PM
Actually, I have considered opening up my phone and pulling all the microphones out. Using the 3.5mm port for anything audio.
but moto uses star heads.
I wonder if it's torx..

yeah, it's hard to unscrew those with philips screwdriver

Anyone done any CompTIA certs?

I wanna do A+ and Linux+ , but haven't done it yet . . . .It would probably cost like 300$

Well I'm going to be taking classes for both of those this year probably.

Screw heads? Relevant

5:21 PM
Although I think I might be able to skip the Linux+ class and just go straight to the cert. Depending on how hard it is. Doesn't look hard at all.

@Seth get the book on amazon, that's what i did
For the most part, we already do biiiig chunk of command line stuff here that they will be testing

@Seth wait what is that ?
ebooks ?

Free courses, it seems.

Python for Security Professionals . . . ??? GIMME!!!

5:26 PM
@Serg videos

@Seth cost ?

free

gentlemen , we should sign up . . . because YOLO . . .. also because it's IT training and it's free
@TheBrownOne @onebree ladies, you too ^

user139252
Maybe.

user139252
@Zacharee1 Would a 1.9 spigot server be okay?

user139252
5:29 PM
(I really should do homework, tonight is the last night of class....)

Do 1.9.4, but yeah. Would you want it to be under my Bungee network or do you want a standalone?

user139252
Do I have to do anything special?

The server needs to be in offline mode, and you need to set the bungeecord option to true in the spigot.yml file
Offline mode might be dangerous, because idk how to do a firewall there.
unless you have a VPN server at your house?

WatchDogs2 add seems like the game will now be about hackers
DedSec

user139252
I have a VPN, yeah... Why is offline mode dangerous?

user139252
5:32 PM
All it does is disable the check with Mojang servers

Because someone could use a cracked launcher and join with the name Zacharee1 and be opped
Joining through Bungeecord fixes that since it does a verification and then proxies you to the server

user139252
I see.

user139252
Sounds like too much work for today :P

Well I already have Bungee set up
We'd just have to figure out some secure tunnel for the server connection

user139252
That can be done another day :P

5:35 PM
or you could just have a standalone server for now
It can be changed easily later
@TheBrownOne I think you need to have Scales installed

thin so
sheldon you need to return better

@jokerdino hwat
I need to do the node adding stuff

user139252
Lemme just get the darn thing built :P

heh
oh, the website order link on the stem site is still pointing to your old TK address

I tried to write a great answer :) askubuntu.com/questions/786978/…
Also I want to show off my new profile picture
How do you like it?

5:41 PM
I give a vote

All voting was reversed due to the votes being favors

Um?

@BharadwajRaju no

I know, jk

ooohhh don't scare me
im new here xd

5:43 PM
The bot picks up more wrong cases than right ones

It was never my intent to rack up on undeserved upvotes :)

I know, I was joking on the recent fiasco caused by it

"Recent fiasco"?

Jun 7 at 3:12, by RobotHumans
PSA: If you're wondering why you lost rep with reversal recently, you might want to read this

I remember losing a little reputation..
But now I'm awfully close to 500 rep "Accessing the review Q"

5:47 PM
Is there anything like 'unupvote' (not downvote) or 'unaccept' in your reputation history?

No, now I see it were mere downvotes
But do you like my very abstract profile picture?

I like it
I like colors
in case my avatar didn't give that off

I see :)

I like it
Though I hope AU doesn't into some social networking site: grooveplex updated their profile picture. (12 upvotes, 3 downvotes, 1 off-topic flag)
:)

Is this a good comment to leave under a short answer: "Could you please elaborate on this answer? Explain what it does and why it might help the OP."?

5:52 PM
Link to said answer?

yes
if the answer doesn't really have anything besides code, leave the comment

Although it is a good comment

A: how to find the path for libcudart.so?

OlimjonOn terminal type: sudo ldconfig /usr/local/cuda/lib64 If this don't work try: export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/cuda/bin

You can edit it yourself a bit, maybe

no
don't add content

5:56 PM
why not

@Zacharee1 why?

Because then you're changing the answer, maybe against what the OP was trying to say
You're speaking for them without knowing what they might say

@BharadwajRaju @grooveplex if you can rally add to an answer, you can as well post an own one, but not changing the intentions of the answerer by editing his answer to a point it isnt his anymore

I don't think that (for example) "setting the PATH will tell bash to search for executables in ..." would hurt
Although it's still a suggested edit, OP can reject
Then a comment might be best, I think

Oh right, you guys don't have instant edits

5:58 PM
I do

you do?
you do!
There's no harm in suggesting then @grooveplex
@BharadwajRaju thought you were in your 1ks

Yep. 2.2k

And terdon's at 404
votes not found
@TheBrownOne how goes it

user139252
Cloning from Git.

cloning Scales?

user139252
6:00 PM
I had to get the static IP set-up. The box is running Lubuntu, and I had to adjust.

user139252
No, cloning Spigot.

ah
oh

user139252
Running the build tools

When you set up Scales, tell me the port you choose (443 or 8443 are best if you can)

user139252
Well, it for sure won't be 443 :P

6:01 PM
Also, self-signed certs will work fine, but you can try using Let's Encrypt
@TheBrownOne using that already? :p

user139252
Yeah, for apache.

ahh
then use 8443
and do you want this connection to be over the VPN or over the web?
if it's over VPN, you can use 443
if it's not, you don't have to give me access to your internal network ;p
@Serg still holding that 5th place

@Zacharee1 I'm at only 149, with @Tim sitting in my neck.

user139252
@Zacharee1 Web is fine

user139252
I'm not letting you near any of my VPNs :P

user139252
6:12 PM
Maybe the one I let coworkers use to get around the web filter at work.

How do you guys make sure a question is not a "Home work" question?
There are many such suspicious questions lately.

insights.ubuntu.com/2016/06/14/… Snaps are getting used more and more! Multiple distros coming out with them
3

It doesn't really matter if it's homework

usually the understanding and way they post - signals that they don't understand and want a problem done for them

wow

6:18 PM
@chaskes Thats true. but if we start answering all test and homework questions, its encouraging them to post all their HW question

aka, "how do I make a foo in bar"
sometimrs it reads like a text book...

@SeverusTux If it's a bad question, we deal with it. If it's a good question, we answer it. Why the OP needs the answer is OT, so to speak. This is how I see it.
This is not to say that obvious HW questions aren't frustrating.

but with editing one actually made a good queastion on a misunderstanding the text book was worng on

user136984
Yep, looks like I'm not going to get past the primaries phase...

What about this question and this question ? It seems like HW questions.

6:23 PM
Yes, they are. But I don't see anything wrong with them other than bad wording.
This is not directed to any individual but I wish we would all focus a little bit more on answering unanswered questions and a little less on what's a bad question.

@BharadwajRaju plenty of people
@Serg yes sir

@chaskes thats starworthy

:)

@TheBrownOne well, it'd need access to the server

@chaskes That sounds like what Oli usually says.

6:29 PM
its the same i expressed lately as we had the discussion already if a homework question is OT ot not
and instead of discussing i answered it and got berated for :p

@TheBrownOne so I've made an account for you on pp.x-p-w.tk. Right now, it's your Gmail for the login and TheBrown1 for the password. You can change that when you login. You aren't an admin right now, but I can change that.
I need a hostname that points to your external IP, and the port you want to use

@Videonauth yes, Its risky to answer such questions...

@Zacharee1 Ya changed your colorfulness?

Yesh

as all the users don't have a common opinion.

6:32 PM
no it isn't they are valid questions, but most long term users on the site are more busy with looking for a link to dupe close a question as providing answers first then looking for dupes

I liked the previous one more. It had more intense colors.

@ByteCommander I like abstracts, which @grooveplex reminded me of

ARGV. Typing is hard today... :P

Es hat

He has had a hat.
brb

6:33 PM
sigh

Tim
I have more up votes than byte commander, but also more down

@Tim I saw that. Thomas and Jacob have something similar

that's usually how it works.

you're more liked and more hated

Tim
Yes
I'm not surprised

6:35 PM
@jokerdino I suppose so, but it's how I've felt for a long time. I got into this when Jono Bacon said the best way to start helping Ubuntu is to go to AU and answer unanswered questions. I've always agreed this is way more important then pouncing on some innocent with an bad question.

Apparently you can never go over the speed limit when passing cars in PA, which makes no sense

finding a dupe take mere seconds.
heck almost all the times I -know- there is a dupe since I remember the dupe ;)

Tim
In the UK I think you might be able to go up to 75 to overtake
Essentially if you have to go faster, it's not safe. But some people say you must stay on the speed limit

@Rinzwind I mostly know the dupes as well meanwhile, still im more for providing an answer first and then check for dupes
what more worries me is that in fact 99% of all asked questions are dupes meanwhile

One doubt : are questions closed as "duplicate" considered as unanswered ??
if they were marked as dupe with no answers

6:38 PM
idk if the counter takes in closed questions

why would it count closed questions ? They are closed ... But I am not sure how it works

It probably doesn't take closed questions.

@SeverusTux dupe questions are closed questions
@TheBrownOne hello?

Tim
Google says no speeding in the UK, but you can in spain

Are there any Ubuntu projects that need Python coding? I'd like to help

6:43 PM
@Tim that's certainly helpful for you
@BharadwajRaju all of them?

I haven't seen any active projects on that

user139252
@Zacharee1 Sorry, also doing homework.

user139252
What do you need?

how could you? :p
I need the hostname you want this thing to connect to and the port you want to use

user139252
mc.browntech.space:8443

6:45 PM
thx

user139252
It's not set-up yet, though.

user139252
Build tools is still running.

That's fine
I also need a port for SFTP
21?

user139252
Why do you need SFTP?

user139252
You didn't tell me I'd also have to set-up one of those D=

6:47 PM
SFTP is usually over SSH

Scales will make its own SFTP server for you

@Zacharee1 ^

Default SFTP port is 22, if I remember

@ThomasW. yeah, but she already has SSH stuff on 22

Both can be used at the same time
If you have an SSH server, you also have an SFTP server

6:48 PM
@TheBrownOne PP will let me give you an auto-deplay script, which will install Scales with the proper config, including SFTP and comm port
GUYS
STOP IT WITH THE SSH
I know the default port

what?

I cannot use the default port

@Zacharee1 cool it dude
geez, no need to get angry

1 min ago, by Zacharee1
@ThomasW. yeah, but she already has SSH stuff on 22

17 secs ago, by Thomas W.
geez, no need to get angry
^ always applies

6:49 PM
@ThomasW. Obviously, using normal letters had no effect

Then they also, by definition, have an SFTP server

user139252
My Minecraft server is on a different machine than the one that port 22 is forwarded too

@Zacharee1 and caps lock rage almost made me flag it
but only a little

SSH server = SFTP server

user139252
(I can talk for myself, even if I'm busy)

6:49 PM
@ThomasW. well what else could I do? You weren't listening

Q: Erroneous message pops up in close dialog

JosI try to vote to close a question, but am greeted with this error message: So I patiently wait until 3 seconds have passed, try again, and get the same error, over and over again. What is wrong here?

user139252
I'll set-up a forward from port 2422 to the MC server's port 22.

Tim
Let's pick a new discussion guys

Anyways the SSH port shouldn't be 22, for security reasons

@TheBrownOne do you have a port you want to use? I think this is just for the online file-manager, but it might be needed
oh OK
@TheBrownOne I'm going to email you a command/script to run. It'll expire in 15 minutes, but I can always make a new one.

user139252
6:54 PM
@Zacharee1 Later. Homework.

OK

Huh? SE was just down for maintenance. Did you notice it?

So Microsoft is hinting Xbox 360 games could eventually run on Windows...

@ByteCommander nope
@NathanOsman adding onto the One games?

We'll have to wait and see.
