I do actually have something to test

@kos by the way, how's your python-fu ? I'm only starting there

kos
@Zacharee1 I'm busy with Python now. :(

aw ok

kos
@Serg 0. nothing. nada. niente.

@kos hi-five let's n00b together , python n00bs unite :D

@Serg o/ (<- hi-five)

user139252
@Rinzwind Yes, and I don't know how

user139252
We were both down to the king, one bishop, and one knight

kos
Yeah something like that. I'm going to try the example you linked me and see if I can grasp it.

@kos note that it will open really small popup . . .like i barely found it on my window . . .
By the way, wanna see some of the code I posted recently ?

kos
8:06 PM
@Serg Sure, give me the links

user136984
@Serg: If and when he comes with some links to evidence, I have this really bad feeling that my latest on-topic questions on 16.04 are going to be in there... :D

kos
Side note, you need a package for Tk:

@blade19899 what is that ?

@Serg My tox ID

kos
It worked!

Got it

If you have tox just add me, I'll delete it later on

kos

8:08 PM
let me boot my VM and add you . . .

kos
@Serg Thanks, looking at it

user139252
Nobody plays with my Python anymore :(

@TheBrownOne ō_ô
Wait.

user139252
I just re-read that, and I'm ashamed.

@TheBrownOne My Anaconda don't want none unless you got buns hon . . .or something like that

8:09 PM
lol
@Serg yep

kos
@TheBrownOne I may, I need to learn some basics

@kos ...

kos
@Zacharee1 ?

@TheBrownOne are you up for a quick game of test spleef on my server?

@kos look through some of the @JacobVlijm code. He has some really good examples . . . that's what I've been doing last couple of days . . .

8:10 PM
@kos there is an innuendo in that sentence :p

@TheBrownOne Nobody plays with any of my projects on GitHub, so chear up buddy :)

kos
@Zacharee1 The innuendo is in the mind of the listener ;)

@kos ◔_◔
> This is an Ubuntu site. What answer do you expect? – muru 12 mins ago @muru

kos
@Zacharee1 Ok, maybe you have a point.

@blade19899 That's me : github.com/SergKolo

kos
8:13 PM
@Zacharee1 Lol. Spot-on

@Serg so your name is Sergiy Kolo?

@Serg Following....
Watch you back |-_)

@Zacharee1 full name is Sergiy Kolodyazhnyy . . . . But who want's to spell my whole name ?

lol

@Serg :p

8:14 PM
@Serg HOLY. NOBODY!

@blade19899 lol

Hehe . . .any other question on why i shorten my name ?

Some random panda just added me on qTox. So random.

kos
@Serg Is the Italian pronunciation accurate? translate.google.it/?ie=UTF-8&hl=it&client=tw-ob#uk/it/…

@kos yup, exactly how it should be pronounced . . . That feels moment, when google bot pronounces my name better than actual people, shm

kos
8:18 PM
:D Now I can spell your full name

user139252
@Zacharee1 How about 0ad?

@TheBrownOne sure. I just want to test something on my server quickly
@kos I find it strange that every language is capitalized except for Ukranian

Yeeey. I think I should try learning Italian. I bet pronounciation would be easy for me

user139252
@Serg Can I just call you "Cool Slavic Dude"?

user139252
Much easier than trying to pronounce that mess.

8:22 PM
:p

@TheBrownOne hehe, sure :) Although I'm not that cool

kos
@Zacharee1 What do you mean is not capitalized? Isn't it?

@kos It says "ucranio"

he means in the language selection menu ucraino is not in caps

8:24 PM
danese too
Oooo, found chinese python repo on git

kos
@Serg Actually phonetically Slavic languages are closer to Italian than e.g. English, I think I could pronounce Ukrainian words better than English words (and IME it's the same for Russians / Ukrainians). The few Russians I've known barely had an accent.

Hi all...

@Fabby ...lla iH

This guy is getting on my nerves...

Me?

8:28 PM
Does anyone have a delete vote left?

kos
@Zacharee1 @Serg Right. Don't know what's wrong with Google there.

@Fabby just saw it delete

@Fabby deleted

@kos ¯_(ツ)_/¯

@Zacharee1 :D Yeah you too! ;-) (NOT!)

8:28 PM
◔_◔
@Fabby how about the Michael guy?

@Serg Thanks!

@kos i took spanish class, and since i know spanish and italian are close, i can 99% be sure that it would be pretty easy for me to learn . . .if only i could stop being a lazy a$$

@Zacharee1 Who? the other archangel?

@Fabby there's a user who somehow has 450+ rep whose answers are all "you could try this" [stuff here] It might work this way"

@TheBrownOne: Hi Heather! You look like a turd today! How come?
>:-) :D

user139252
8:30 PM
:(

And most of the time the suggestions aren't even good
@Fabby yikes

(Sorry, but that was just a wide open door!)

user139252
It was.

user139252
This is what happens when you decide "I'm going to change my profile!" at 2AM.

@TheBrownOne ;-) How are you?

8:30 PM
@TheBrownOne @Fabby

kos
@Serg Italian is quite useless though. It's the 23rd most spoken language, whilst Spanish is the 2nd one. :D

@TheBrownOne After a few drinks??? >:-)

look at where it points to
@kos Well if you know it, you can understand Spanish

@kos I thought Chinese was nowadays...

@kos Eh, I learn languages for fun, not for the positional number on some table . . .

user139252
8:31 PM
I'm alright. Making coffee for the office over lunch hour.

@Fabby 1st

@kos Italian is very useful if you like opera!

@Serg that's why I want to learn German
@Fabby ◔_◔

@Fabby with large population , Chinese is number one . . . if you discount the foreigners who speak it, of course

@TheBrownOne I don't think anyone recognizes you :P
Is there a reason you decided to go all brown?

8:32 PM
@Seth I think we all just figured

@Seth I recognized her!

@Zacharee1 REPLIES PLZZZZZZ
2

She is called "Brown"!!!

@Seth ONE POST
ONE ONE ONE

@Fabby Good for you :p

8:33 PM
@TheBrownOne I suspected that, but didn't bother to check your UID on the site . . .

kos
@Fabby Sounds like a pretty narrow application. :D

It's totally obvious once you connect the dots!

@Fabby you know, if you upvote me 21 times, I can cast those close votes ;p

@kos And if you want to read "Il Prncipe"
(original version, so that you know that the end DOES NOT justify all means!)
Hah!

user139252
@Seth @Serg I was bored, tired, and a little inebriated.

8:35 PM
lol

user139252
I thought it was creative considering I could only remember @JacobVlijm as "The Orange Guy".

:p

user139252
@Fabby I think it's more like a milk chocolate, less like a turd.

@TheBrownOne learned a new word, inebriate :D

lol

kos
8:36 PM
@Fabby I had to Google that, cause I'm a bit ignorant. Yeah I guess so, though the original is in Latin, isn't it?

user139252
Yes, it is Latin-based.

◔ ͜ ◔

user139252
Stemming from ebrius.

@TheBrownOne I'm sorry, but I'll have to agree to disagree: in real life it might, but here in the chat with the pink and grey and off-white, it actually looks ...

◔   ͜   ◔◔   ͜   ◔◔   ͜   ◔◔   ͜   ◔◔   ͜   ◔

8:37 PM
Let's just way: a bit worse...

kos
@TheBrownOne Latin-based?

@kos inebriated :p

take another shade of brown...

user139252
@Kos Yes, Latin-based word. ebrius -> inebriare -> inebriatus -> inebriated (English).

kos
@Zacharee1 You lost me guys, I don't know what you're talking about.

8:38 PM
@kos Mmmmh... Why did I go through the trouble of reading it in Italian then? (facepalm!)

@kos I think @TheBrownOne thought you were talking about inebriated when you were talking about Il Principe

@TheBrownOne We were talking about Machiavelli's "Il Principe"

kos
@Zacharee1 Ok that explains it! @TheBrownOne

user139252
I'm confused.

lol

kos
8:40 PM
@Fabby Lol. :D

The brown and the orange one! @TheBrownOne @JacobVlijm
Next to each other!

Updated profile. Time to go to the Python class :p

hey @Serg you're really close to a gold badge :D

"I don't know math, but I use magic to solve math problems. I'm a mathe-magician."

^^ Striving for that one

let's try this handwriting recognition out
@TheBrownOne 😑

@TheBrownOne Good one!

no no no no no no

kos
@TheBrownOne Tumbleweed...

8:47 PM
google's handwriting recognition works really well

kos
And just a pinch of embarassment :P

user139252
Just a small, Everest-sized pinch.

lol

@TheBrownOne My standard answer is: I don't know Maths: I use inefficient algorithms and a fast computer to brute force my Maths problems!

8:51 PM
@Zacharee1 No faces for you.

Ok, so from Tkinter import *: what is Tkinter and what is * (I mean at the language level)?
* = classes I guess?

Tkinter is the module and * imports all the classes/functions in the module directly.
For e.g. if you just did import Tkinter then everything inside that module would have to be referenced Tkinter.someClass but if you use from Tkinter import * then someClass can be referenced directly.
AFAIK that is the only major difference.

@kos are you sure you want to use tkinter? Really ugly unless you spend a lot of time fixing colors to kind of match gtk

user136984
Well, this has become much more popular than I thought it would... :)

user136984
8:55 PM
@JacobVlijm: Do you use Tox by the way? :)

@ParanoidPanda I have it, but rarely use it :)

user136984
@JacobVlijm: I guess you don't want to join our ToxID sharing party then (as @Serg put it)? :D

@JacobVlijm I can confirm that! :D

kos
@Seth Ok that's useful. So doing import * from a module also sets the namespace. Thanks!

@ParanoidPanda I would, but I am on a tablet :)

kos
8:58 PM
@JacobVlijm No I'm not, I just read that it was built-in into Python, but actually I had to download a separate package.

@kos I made qle quicklist editor once in tkinter, switched to python3/gtk now. Much more beautifull. You will want to switch sooner or later, might as well spare you the time to get into it twice...

@JacobVlijm That's a lame excuse: tox has Windows and Android clients too! (unless you've got the pre-release BQ tablet!)

what are you working on btw @kos?

>:-)

because I think Jacob is right. If it's a big project you will eventually want to switch to something like Gtk or Qt. If it's a small one time thing you might still want to switch :)

9:03 PM
@Fabby REALLY?? But this is my wife's tablet... :)

kos
@JacobVlijm Alright, so that would be which module? Do I have to install another package?

@Mitch That's just like the 710 cap!!! (for those wondering: it's inside a car under the hood)

kos
@Seth No, as of now I'm just playing with it a bit, I want to learn it because I've had ideas for small neat things at times I'd have liked to implement, and couldn't do because I don't know any framework. But Python looked like a better idea than learning say GTK with C.

@Fabby lol

user139252
9:09 PM
I'm making gnuchess play against itself.

@TheBrownOne It is winning???
>:-)

@kos nothing to install, this bazaar.launchpad.net/~vlijm/lswitcher/lswitcher/view/head:/code/… wasmy first in gtk takeabreak (also on launchpad) the second

user139252
@Fabby Actually, no.

user139252
Nothing is happening.

:D :D :D

kos
9:12 PM
@JacobVlijm Nice, thanks. So just from gi.repository import Gtk avails. It will take quite a bit of time to know that at a decent level. Never used GUIs and I barely understand anything in that code :P

hah! I totally forgot gtk didn't require any package installs.
I don't think Qt does either, but I don't remember.

@kos I think you'll get used to it quickly, and SO is a great source!!

user136984
AAAA! My coffee machine just exploded with a blue light coming out of it and smoke!!!

@Seth I prefered gtk, since it "feels" a lot like tkinter, which I was used to.

user139252
9:16 PM
@ParanoidPanda It was the illuminati.

user136984
@TheBrownOne: No, I think water got into the electrics...

user136984
Either that or we had some massive power surge which only did something to it...

@ParanoidPanda don't get paranoid now :)

user136984
@JacobVlijm: Well how often does your coffee machine explode with a blue light?

kos
That looks very well done! Thanks @Seth

user136984
9:18 PM
How often does anyone's do that...?

user136984
I think it's time for a new coffee machine! :D

@ParanoidPanda HTCPCP error!!!!
Did everyone suddenly run off reading a 1998 April 1st joke???
Quiet here... >:-)

user136984
@Fabby: When I started reading it I believed it, then became less sure... :D

user136984
But anyway, I think I may have just broken my coffee machine...

@ParanoidPanda The 3rd line or so is 1 APRIL 1998

9:28 PM
@Fabby I think everyone is under the table, scared for the exploded coffeemachine...

@JacobVlijm :D :D :D

\o/

user136984
Seriously though, it did explode! And with such a bang too! I nearly jumped out of my skin!

lol
@A.B. /o\

@ParanoidPanda strong coffee...

Quill Littlefeatherso the issue is that i am using hetzner for my server hosting and they suck at making any working tutorial. i have purchased a /29 subnet block. 136.243.229.24 / 29 - subnet 136.243.6.76 - main server ip How do i configure a bridge on the host server (centos) so that the guests (ubuntu) can us...

user136984
@JacobVlijm: :D

lol I saw this and misread the name as "Serg":
please tell, how exactly did you create the Fedora's USB stick (I am not a fan of other mentioned distros, but may give some advice on Fedora) — Serge 1 min ago
couldn't understand how he could say he wasn't familiar with ubuntu lol xD

@Seth lol

@Serg -----------------------^

I must confess, on the new post above, I read How do i create create a bride for virtual machines

9:35 PM
@Fabby Here's the Michael guy. Every answer is like this: askubuntu.com/a/709460/274320
Just look at the answer score

I'm going to go through his answers and post:
As a famous philosopher once said “Do, or do not! There is no try!” or in Ask Ubuntu style: if you're sure, then it's an answer, if you're not, then it's a comment. Words like "try" "might", "should" are a sign, that a message belongs in the comments, and "do", "will", "shall" in answers.
everywhere.

Do it!

@Zacharee1 I might get a bit discouraged with such a score...

@Seth (since I did tell you about this) @Fabby He does actually have some helpful and even accepted answers, but he does need to be told that his answer structure is pretty bad
@JacobVlijm ?

@Zacharee1 You could helpme out: already downvoted 2 of his answers and voted to delete 1
now stopping as otherwise it's serial downvoting...

9:39 PM
@Fabby I shall. For now I'm going with the low voted ones

Don't downvote more then three!
I'm going to keep an eye on this one...

Look how many things he's answered!
He's trying hard, but failing because of his answer structure.

user136984
I predicted that this would happen (that the guy would give one of my answers as evidence)! :D

user136984
sure here is a new question that is considered off-topic askubuntu.com/questions/725975/…DnrDevil 2 hours ago

@Zacharee1 He's in my RSS feed now as "Michael the Tryer"...

9:42 PM
lol

@ParanoidPanda no need to post unconstructive comments about it though ;)

kos
@Zacharee1 The problem is some of them are a bit out of this world. See this one: askubuntu.com/a/725859/380067. Problem with nVidia drivers. Suggested solution: install the AMD drivers before updating, only then updating, then upgrading. ???

user136984
@Seth: Well, it's just because I predicted that it would happen, but I still wasn't absolutely sure, and then I saw my question there! :D

user136984
@Seth: Have you deleted the comment or shall I?

it's gone

9:45 PM
@kos I know

Good night all, will go horizontally :)

How do you embed comments with the links and such?
(in chat)
I think I should alert you that the structure you use for answers is not at all what an answer should look like. You make it seem like you aren't sure that what you suggest is going to work, and that's really bad to put as an answer. If you aren't sure that something will work, then put it as a comment. If you really think that it is the solution, then be affirmative. No one's going to want to listen to the guy saying "I think this might work, but I'm not really sure." They want to follow the person who seems like they know what they're doing. Be more assertive when you answer questions — Zacharee1 1 min ago
ah
easier than I thought :p

user136984
@JacobVlijm: Goodnight! :)

@JacobVlijm 'night!

@JacobVlijm Sex or sleep???

9:47 PM
@Fabby there it is..

;-)
@Zacharee1 Where is what???

@Fabby the sarcastic comment that borders on inappropriate

Borders on the inappropriate...

sure
Ugh

and it's not sarcastic, nor inappropriate: It's just a question!

9:48 PM
I hate it when people accept my answer, but don't upvote it, or vise versa

;-)

user136984
@Fabby: I bet if someone flagged that up it would get deleted... :P

BORDERS (HENCE)
Let's see...
jk

@Zacharee1 Well, I never accept your answers, but do upvote them!

lol, well thanks

A: Will dual booting windows 8.1 with Ubuntu affect the future Windows 10 upgrade?

Zacharee1If you install Ubuntu it will make it tricky to upgrade to Windows 10, since (re)installing Windows tends to break GRUB (Ubuntu's bootloader). I'd recommend waiting on installing Ubuntu until Windows 10 is officially released, to avoid problems. Ubuntu does have touch support now, but I've seen ...

9:51 PM
@Zacharee1 They're not good enough to warrant an upvote, but if uou want to get rid f the negative rep, just delete them...

Good idea :p
Not quite sure why I said that as an answer.... askubuntu.com/questions/610713/make-my-function-keys-work-again/…
MY GOD HE TURNED THE MUSIC UP
Yay, up to 2,811!

user136984
VTC this question as unclear.

@ParanoidPanda flagged

@Zacharee1 But have an edit and +30 for some other stuff!

@Fabby Thanks!
159 rep to go

9:57 PM
@Zacharee1 put your bit about it fixing it past that, and remove the "happened to me to" that is a reactionary not an answer phrase

@Mateo Sure thing
wait, past that?
what do you mean?

@Zacharee1 It'sa workaround, not a solution... If you advertise it as such, you'll get upvotes...

ah

you said that it fixed it permamt - not just once

Yeah
ah
I get it

9:59 PM
the answer is worded as such that we think it will happen again

@ParanoidPanda Why? It's a very clear question!
(and has an answer!)
(so someone understood!)
:P
