George's opinions are his own.
Not necessarily mine.

LOL.

1:32 AM
well, I'm not as young as I used to be

what would be the correct idiom to use???
young ???

If this were the 60s, you might call us "young-'uns".
But this isn't the 60s.

@NathanOsman Ah! But I'm an old fart!

@NathanOsman age-impared?

@NathanOsman the '60s....

Lol.

because by that time anyone alive in the 1960s will be dead...

was funny what they called 2000's didn't see that one coming ;)

Yeah, but so much history occurred in the 60s that the term will outlive the people who were there.

1:36 AM
mmmh... not really. by then it'll be called the 1960s...
like the important stuff in the 1860s is now called...

You'll need to resize your partitions.

It's quite difficult. And you'll need to use a LiveCD.

will that need the disk to be formatted?

Not necessarily.

Q: Why do I see wrong suggestion for possible answer above my question?

sangharshUp above my question I see the heading that "this question may already have an answer." the link provided in this heading does not give answer to my question. More interestingly, I mention that link (question) in my own question and I do explain how that does not give me the correct answer. ...

@Serg You deserve a high-five.
It took me at least two hours to get a proper Arch setup in VirtualBox.

@NathanOsman Installation of the Arch itself was pretty straightforward. I just never used command line to partition hard drive, so it took me a bit of reading. As for GUI, I couldn't figure out how to get mouse and keyboard work in GUI . . . what's funny is that i passed the solution multiple times, when i was googling it around.

5:25 AM
For me it was manually bringing up the network.
It took so long for me to get DHCP configured correctly.
Fun fact - NitroShare is available in AUR :)
3

what's AUR ?

@Serg It's the user package repository.
Kind of like what PPAs are to Ubuntu.
Except everything is all in one repository.

Oh, nice.
I think I've used before, when NetworkManager got borked on Fedora 20, I tried to download wicd, failed to install, and then just quit and reinstalled Fedora

@hbdgaf And my status is: Stuff in the pipeline, but no signed contract yet...

@Brandin No. OSX is a UNIX, it has basically no connection with the old macOS.

@hbdgaf: on the other hand: the menu today will be quiche with diced chicken tits fried in olive oil with some green curry paste with zucchini and feta...

it's good that you're going to food.

12:58 PM
@hbdgaf: do you want me to teach me some GitHub?

i'ld rather not.

What should I do if I want to change the readme to include "you must use" instead of you must you"
@hbdgaf OK, fair enough...

It was a typo. fair on the criticism, but check the commit time. It was... late.

Gotta split! Hungry people coming home...

@terdon Originally Windows was just a program that ran on top of DOS. But that doesn't mean Windows 8 and 10, etc. are not Windows anymore.

1:08 PM
@Brandin Huh? Mac OS was developed by Apple. OSX was a complete break from that and was largely based on BSD. In fact, many versions of OSX were UNIX, achieving full UNIX specification. I don't think there is any connection whatsoever between macOS and OSX.
Windows, on the other hand, carries loads of crud from its previous versions. As far as I know, there has never been a completely clean break and rewire. OSX grew from NeXTSTEP which in turn was based on the BSDs.
It was never, to my knowledge, based on macOS.

@terdon Hello - thank you - can you help with this ? -> askubuntu.com/questions/677486/…
@Fabby Hello my friend - how are you ?

@cl-netbox Why would the OP want to convert to .img in the first place?
Also, that's very off topic here since the issue is on the mac side.
@cl-netbox have a look at this and add the steps to your answer:
3
A: How do I burn an ISO on a USB drive on Mac OS X?

Dan PowerThere is no need to convert the ISO to an IMG. I wasn't willing to convert an image first. This has easier steps, outlined below. Start by listing the current disks and volumes: diskutil list Now unmount the current volume for the disk you are about to overwrite. (X = Drive number, in my case...

Just telling the OP to use dd without explaining how is not very useful. dd is not the simplest of tools :)

@terdon yes you are right ! - that's what I said in my first comment - converting to img comes from here -> help.ubuntu.com/community/…

@terdon Thank you - may I use this ?

1:21 PM
Sorry, but this is off topic here since you are doing everything on OSX and are not using Ubuntu. You can ask on Ask Different,Super User or Unix & Linux instead. Before you do, however, have a look at How do I burn an ISO on a USB drive on Mac OS X? and Copying ISO file to USB drive in OS X? of which answer your question. — terdon 17 secs ago
@cl-netbox In any case, the OP is almost certainly just using the wrong path.
@cl-netbox Of course you can!

You're welcome. I did vote to close as off topic though. That really doesn't belong here.

Yeah, but it'll play/read DVDs just fine.
So obviously it's not broken.

CD and DVD use different lasers.

your drive has a lens for DVD and one for CD

I would have expected that both are moved with the same motor, but who knows...
Try reading a good old CD-ROM...

I think the mechanics are simpler when using two motors.

@A.B. They do?
I did not know that.

As long as both systems are required, they can be inexpensive manufactured en masse. A combined laser would be perhaps more expensive.

@edwardtorvalds I guess this question should solve your problem: askubuntu.com/q/138472/367990

Also, a friend recently told me that the world according to NASA will end tomorrow, however they seem to have 'mislaid' the article/evidence and everything I read on line says that NASA in fact says the complete opposite... Does anybody know any more on this?
