Q: No notification if someone edits my answer with a huge change

A.B.Edit after this question was identified as a possible duplicate of another question. Below is an example of an edit without a notification. The change was huge and still I did not receive a notification. And that's not over the threshold as answered here? how to reproduce: Have someon...

@Mitch please read the comment
@Fabby I don't understand the last comment here meta.stackexchange.com/q/266941/287433

reading

I have successfully (under controlled conditions) run out of inodes on a partition.

@A.B. You should leave a comment:
@NathanOsman O_o did you set the number of inodes to the minimum and then started creating a large number of files?

I used a Python script to continuously create new files.
And then it eventually ran out of inodes.

(impressed)
@A.B. the comment should be to [at]ShadowWizard:
`Second screen shot removed as it was a left-over from the original question. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the heads-up.
The edit I didn't get notified about was not an approved edit before I had time to approve it. It was a substantial edit to one of my posts' code that should clearly have crossed [the threshold for notification](http://meta.stackexchange.com/a/202415/275497) but clearly didn't, and it's reproducible...`
@A.B. That's what I would say

Yaaay, one more user with Broadcom wifi card. Flips table

Look at this Blue-Footed Boobie!

user136984
And apparently it is a real animal! :D

@A.B. What he's talking about is the time that you get to review an edit...
@ParanoidPanda yup! the northern Gannet
@ParanoidPanda there is a lot you don't know...

I have come to the conclusion that Docker containers use a lot of inodes.

9:29 PM
How about the Leafy sea dragon?
How about the Leafy sea dragon? @ParanoidPanda
@NathanOsman Ah?
define "a lot"

user136984
:D

@Fabby on my 40 GB server, roughly 2,032,562 or so inodes for 7 containers.
...which is about 66% of the available inodes on the partition.

O_o

To be fair, that number includes all of the inodes on the system.
But I doubt more than 100,000 of those are for anything other than Docker.

Who over here dualboots ?

9:33 PM
Raises hand.

I need to satisfy my grub curiosity

@Serg used to...

@Serg me but last time is at least 1/2 a year ago :X

A: How to make a version of Linux kernel default in grub?

SergStep 1: Run awk '/\$menuentry_id_option/ {print $(NF-1) }' /boot/grub/grub.cfg | less in terminal. This will tell unique id for each grub OS entry. For example, I have the following output: 'gnulinux-simple-86df21bf-d95f-435c-9292-273bdbcba056' 'gnulinux-advanced-86df21bf-d95f-435c-9292-273bdbc...

@Serg gruboptimizer ftw :=

@terdon Raises hand

@ParanoidPanda Actually, it;s an ex-SO mod and current CM:
@Fabby Really? Only one OS installed?

@NathanOsman @Rinzwind I completely moved away from dual HDD to new, shiny SSD with Ubuntu 14.04 only, but out of curiosity I need to see how would step 1 look like with windows partition there.

Actually, I'm not 100% sure I have another on this machine at the moment but still... :)

Oo those blue feet tho

@Fabby ??

@Rinzwind Ever think of removing old kernels? :P

9:38 PM
mine shows "uefi frmware" :P

@Rinzwind o.O windows listed as uefi-firmware ?!

@Whaaaaaat I remember you being slammed on Meta Stack Exchange

@terdon in couple of days I will format and install 15.10

Yeah, I have yet to deal with UEFI

@Fabby thank you, I've posted your comment

9:39 PM
@A.B. I'll delete mine then...

user136984
Anyone have any better answers on this‌? :)

@Fabby Oh, the whatsitcalled.
MSE is mean :(

@ParanoidPanda sorry but I would check the locations myself. if it is a user pixs it should be in /home or a datadisk. never inside the filesystem admin dirs

@ParanoidPanda so . . .you've lost a pic. Any clue on how it was named ?

user136984
@Rinzwind: I don't know, I have checked everywhere and just can't find it...

9:41 PM
@ParanoidPanda did you check trash? >:)

user136984
@Serg: No... It was a renaming script that went wrong and moved it to a random location with a random name...

@ParanoidPanda tsk! :=)

user136984
@Rinzwind: Yes, it's not in there...

@A.B. drop by in meta.se chat!

That's quite a unique issue . . hmmm. I know there's image searches for the web, but for desktop . . .

9:44 PM
hey the solution is simple: upload ALL your images to the web >:)

Is "apt-get install vim"
the same as compiling vim from source w/ the huge flag?

@Whaaaaaat search the chat for "anally retentive"... >:-)
@Rinzwind :D
@AmagicalFishy better to ask that here
;-)

Whaaat, since when is there a VIM stack exchange!? :D

Ever since there was an Emacs

never used emacs before
but i hate everyone who uses them because i think i'm supposed to ;)

9:50 PM
Nobody's perfect.

@Rinzwind actually . . . that may be a good idea if one hasn't too many images . . . but if there's gigs of that . . . it might be not worth the trouble

user136984
Oh! Found my answer! :)

user136984
Right, well anyway...

user136984
Goodnight! :)

user136984
@NathanOsman: How come @GeorgetheDev doesn't wish us goodnight any more? :(

user136984
9:55 PM
:D

There's a bicycle with a fire extinguisher lying outside on the parking lot oO

yesterday, by Nathan Osman
@Oli George has been relegated to the Sandbox until further notice. I'm going to keep him there until I can find a way to make him less annoying. I'll ping you and some other mods when that time comes. Until then, he'll stay out of this room.

Like . . . .WTF ? somebody was pedaling so hard it got on fire ?
@ParanoidPanda george has ascended to the penguin heaven until the judgement day comes

10:11 PM
@Serg @ParanoidPanda can you both help me prove to some high-up user on Meta Stack Exchange that A.B. and me found a bug???
(A.B himself has a splitting head-ache and went to bed...)

@Fabby There on no mods on Meta Stack Exchange, only Stack Exchange employees.

@Seth all diamonds there are employees???
lemme check again.

@Fabby yup
What's going on?

59K user
@Seth A.B. and me found a bug in the notification system.
and we can reproduce it.
A.B. posted the Q though and he's having trouble communicating in clear English.

link?

10:14 PM
(well, he's off to bed with a splitting head-ache now)

Quick network-related question. If I CNAME a domain name with SRV records, what will happen to said SRV records on the CNAME'd domain?

edit notifications are not always triggered. It depends on the type of edit.
(unfortunately I do not recall the exact criterion)

(I have a website example.com with a SRV to something. If I CNAME example2.com to example.com, what will happen with the SRV records?)

@Fabby What is the question?

@Seth this is what you're looking for
@blade19899 can you edit one of @Seth 's questions and just put <test> on the first line?

10:17 PM
@Fabby ah yes, that's helpful.
@Fabby that shouldn't trigger a notification then.

@Fabby I am glad to help, but how I can test the bug ? If I don't receive notifications, means I don't even know where to look for it

@Seth (it'll be invisible huh?
you're not notified of @blade's edit?

Anybody wants to try editing my answers ?

@Seth because you should be notified of his, but not of mine!

@Serg did you get notified?

@Fabby no, both of you have editing privs.

Should I also get notified when my answered get edited :/

@blade19899 @Fabby no notification

OK....

10:21 PM
Hhhmmm

Only substantial edits and code edits send notifications.

I need to reinstall Ubuntu, so can't help right now. See you guys from a new 14.04 :)

@blade19899 A.B.'s answer has like huge amount of code copy-pasted into it :/
@blade19899 good luck yo !

@Serg Thanks!

@Seth well, it was a code edit...

10:22 PM
@Serg link?

(and a substantiul one)

@Fabby link?

1 min...

k

One of A.B.s

10:23 PM
@Seth link to what ?

@Seth here

@Serg the edit (but it looks like Fabby got it)
@Fabby yes, my tools indicate @A.B. did get a notification for that.
oh wait
I misunderstood the tools.
So I can't actually tell..

@Seth @Fabby Take a look at the edit history, more specifically the approval part
Eric Carvalho reviewed this 3 hours ago: Approve
waltinator reviewed this 3 hours ago: Approve
Pilot6 reviewed this 5 hours ago: Reject

uhuh...

but he should have gotten one.

10:27 PM
2 out of 3 people approved the edit

@Seth he triple checked he didn't

@Serg yeah I'm not very happy about that..

smh

@Fabby well maybe the system had a slip up? Happens sometimes.. Did you bring it up on MSE though?

@Seth we can reproduce it...
that's why we posted it here @Seth
@Seth I need a smoke and a drink!
BRB

10:33 PM
k!

@Seth Back...
So, do you want to simulate on one of your questions???

sure

@blade19899: still awake?
@Serg?
@NathanOsman Alive and kicking and you got about 75 seconds?

Sure.

Whew!

10:45 PM
I am

(Don't know about the "kicking" part though.)

Could you edit this question? (nathan first)

Lol. I think you missed the URL.

Kicking ? How about flopping around like fish

I was still looking for it:
add about 20 <test> tags to it...

10:46 PM
You can only add up to five tags.

ensure they're not showing up in the visible one and report back, pls.
I mean HTML tags
just add 20 <test> strings
(developers! Aargh!) ;-)

Wait, so I'm adding <!-- comment --> tags?

to the body of the question
no just
<test>
or comment tags!

One on each line?

whatever, just make it long!
long string should do it
2K or so

10:48 PM
I added 20 <test> tags.

@seth you following this?
did you get notified?
@NathanOsman thanks!
that was it for you!
;-)

We better be careful or the question will become CW.

<twiddling thumbs until Seth wakes up>
CW? @NathanOsman

I still have a suspicion that AB didn't get a notification exactly because there were 2 approves out of 3 on the edits

@Fabby CW == Community Wiki

10:51 PM
@Serg I think that you don't get a notification after the first one...
@NathanOsman ah! >:-)

Waiting for a paycheck to spend money on a new processor for my old HP pc
:) I am surely not good at savings

@Serg You should plan to upgrade that stuff a year ahead and then start saving...
(a year ahead)
You know when your machine is using 50% whatever a long time before you need to upgrade it...
(next year I'll need to upgrade my /home drive.
(or delete a bunch out of my movie collection)
@Seth: alive and kicking?
Seth doesn't even get pings... Let alone edit notifications! :D

@Fabby well, it's not that big of an issue. I am just messing with that PC for fun. I mostly use my laptop with 14.04 tho
anywho
gotta go
Bye guys

bye!
have fun with the girls!
(Saturday Night Fever!)
;-)

11:06 PM
@Fabby Yeah!

@blade19899 :D :D :D

@Fabby :D

well, @Seth is asleep or busy right now so it'll have to wait until tomorrow

Still need things to backup before I reinstall Ubuntu

15.10?

11:07 PM
sorry, I'm a bit busy.
I am following.
sorta. Got no notifications so far.

@Fabby No. Ubuntu Trusty Tahr, 14.04.

@blade19899 O_o not just a system restore?
a reinstall?

@Fabby Clean Install.

but you see, no one made any actual substantial or code edits, so I wouldn't expect one..

@Seth well, that's the bug... I'll up the ante

11:09 PM
I messed up my system previously, and reinstalled Ubuntu without formattin my disk
Had it looking pretty good again, but to much things that are not working, still.
So, clean install seems like the only option.

@blade19899 I see...
Last reinstall was the "upgrade" from precise to trusty.
i believe in doing 1 upgrade and then a reinstall
but as I'm not very familiar with Ubuntu (yet)
+I'm going to reinstall again when 16.04 hits the shelves.

@Fabby Waiting for 16.04 too. Gonna go LTS to TLS, from now on.

Good man!
>:-)
@Seth: not urgent as I'm going to sleep but when you get a chance in-between real work, check this and tell me that's not major...

reading
seems like it's not loading...
ah!
Too much JavaScript.
doesn't load right
I need sleep!
Good night...
|-)

11:17 PM
Night!

8 mins ago, by Seth
but you see, no one made any actual substantial or code edits, so I wouldn't expect one..

Reinstalling!

none of the testing you have done has revealed a bug.
Not saying there isn't one but your testing isn't deep enough.

@NathanOsman Good job on Nitro Share! Really helping me out!

Thanks!

11:18 PM
Night! Night!

@Seth not substantial? I added more text then your entire question is long!
Anyway, I can't think any more: I'm off to bed now! @A.B.: If you need me desparately and I'm off-line, SMS me! :P

@Fabby where?
ohhh
HTML doesn't show up properly in the inline view.
hmm

@Seth Press the edit button on this question

I'll look into it on Monday, when it isn't the weekend. (shoot me a reminder if you want)

I'll take it up tomorrow with Israel then...
At least I've got you stumped!
:P
Enjoy the rest of the week-end! @Seth

11:23 PM
you too!

Go fishing or killing bears or elk or something... ;-)
(only armed with a knife)
>:-)
