7:00 PM
Ctrl+F5 is hard refresh
:D

Anyway, it worked :P

That's what I've been telling you for 2 days!

I believed you, I believed you :)

;-)
That's why I put the :D first....
You did make me laugh with that!.

@Fabby: ...and fixed.
Try it again now.

7:02 PM
Tell me when you want me to do another
You're a genius!

Hard refresh solved it...

It was misconfigured for IPv6.

What was wrong???
Ah!

(This is kinda funny, I'm answering your questions before you ask them...)

7:03 PM
Telepathy!
You're even better then you knew yourself!
;-)
You should change your avatar to an Andorean!
Downloaded 64-bit Win version (just to try)

I had a feeling that the issue might be related to IPv6 even before I had you hard-refresh, but I wanted to be sure.

Like I said: genius... ;-)

Nah, just experience :)

user136984
I have drastically changed how the program will work and scrapped the config file. But now I am getting errors about the lines of code where I check the options ($1), am I using the code to check for which option was used, wrong?

user136984
#!/bin/bash

if [ $1 == "-m" || "--manual" ]; then
echo "Manual"
elif [ $1 == "-h" || "--help" ]; then
echo "Help"
elif [ $1 == "" ]; then

echo "Have you updated the PATH variable in your .bashrc file yet? [y/n]"
read response

if [ "$response" = "y" ]; then
echo "Checkpoint passed"

ls "/home/$USER" | grep "netbeans.conf"
elif [ "$response" = "n" ]; then
echo "Please set the PATH variable in your .bashrc file before running this script, or run with `-m` option to set the location of the JDK manually."

7:05 PM
Intuition...

@Toroidal shouldn't the other side of the || contain the full expression?

$1 == "-m" || $1 == "--manual"
@Fabby That too. Using a parser is easier.

Read above... What you're doing is difficult to program ...
and difficult to maintain.
The above solution is much more elegant! ;-)
@NathanOsman: Intuition is experience trying to come out of your subconscious...
;-)
How old are you? (a decade is enough)

Q: liveCD Doesn't See Unallocated Space In My Hard Disk

Laurentiu AntonFirst time here, hoping to get some help. I'm trying to dual boot Ubuntu 14.10 on my computer. I have Windows 7 installed and shrunk my main partition to leave a roughly 250 Gb gap (Unallocated). Partitioned as such: Recovery (20 GB) System Reserved (100 MB) Windows Main (1132.96 GB) Unall...

7:08 PM
@ByteCommander: Hey! The whole gang is here! ;-)

@Toroidal 1) use getopt (I assume that's what in the SO answer) 2) as it is that will fail if I run it with -mh, it should print the help but it will run instead. 3) Check for bad arguments 4) Don't mix = and == (not a mistake, just bad form) 6) use the right syntax as Nathan said 5) Don't parse ls. In any case, your ls does nothing there.

Anybody who wants to jump in? I feel a bit stuck with that one...
@Fabby Aloah! o/
Who are you counting to your gang?
:-)

Mine???
:D
Just "the gang"
Se my comment in the question you posted above
No M$ dynamic disks....

> I've been searching for a solution but can't find something that fits. I don't have more than four partitions, I'm not formatting the empty space, my hard drive is not dynamic, etc.
I think he is telling that he does NOT use dynamic disks (I assume that is about the same crap as LVM?)

user136984
I am still a little bit unclear about how I should change my code so that it works... So how exactly would I implement one of these things into my script? :)

7:14 PM
And who is now a member of "the gang"? ;)

You, Toroidal, Nathan, Terdon, Nathan...

@Fabby Does Nathan have a twin?? :D

@Toroidal I'll copy your code and have a look...
Give me 5 minutes...

No dynamic disk management!

user136984
@Fabby Ok, thanks! :)

7:25 PM
Oh I see... you have to do the brain work for half of the chat room at once again... Poor Fabby ;-)
Is that a good answer from me? meta.askubuntu.com/a/13698/367990

upvoted...
@Toroidal: try this:
#!/bin/bash

# A POSIX variable
OPTIND=1 # Reset in case getopts has been used previously in the shell.

while getopts "h?m:" opt; do
case "$opt" in
h|\?)
echo "Help"
exit 0
;;
m) echo "Manual"
;;
esac
done

shift $((OPTIND-1))
[ "$1" = "--" ] && shift

echo "Have you updated the PATH variable in your .bashrc file yet? [y/n]"
read response

if [ "$response" = "y" ]; then
echo "Checkpoint passed"
ls "/home/$USER" | grep "netbeans.conf"
elif [ "$response" = "n" ]; then
echo "Please set the PATH variable in your .bashrc file before running this script, or run with `-m` option to set t

7:40 PM
Ouch. Those bash scripts always look strange to me...
Way too much symbolic characters...

user136984
7:56 PM
@Fabby For the first question it asks if I say n I get: ./snbjdkhome: line 27: -m: command not found

user136984
And I try and use one of the options I get something like this: ./snbjdkhome: option requires an argument -- m

Change it to:
echo "Please set the PATH variable in your .bashrc file before running this script, or run with '-m' option to set the location of the JDK manually."
back-ticks make the stuff between them executable
use normal ticks instead...
:P

Or write a backslash!
with \'-m\' option

he wrote `-m`

The same is for braces (). They also can't be echoed

7:58 PM
instead of '-m'

is it `-m`?
Yes, it is.

user136984
@Fabby Ok, and if I use the -m, I still get this: ./snbjdkhome: option requires an argument -- m

user136984
Should I be getting that output?

user136984
As well as the echo I asked for.

then use the back-slashes!
(listen to both of us! :D)
also on the next line!
(well... 2 lines below)

8:00 PM
I had an echo text with braces that did not work until I wrote it like \(this\).

\(test\)

(forgot to escape the backslash for markdown)

>:)

You type \\(test\\) here on AU (which uses markdown) to display \(test\)

:D
quadruple \

8:03 PM
\ is the escape character. It can change the meaning of the following character. Therefore to write a normal backslash followed by any character different to a whitespace, you have to escape it (write a backslash before the actual backslash you want to write)
Confusing, I know ;D
@Fabby Which of your hundred languages was that?
Sounds French, but I never heard that word before...

Quadruple? Latin, so universal...
Double, Triple, Quadruple, Quintuple, ...

Is that now English or French or both?

All except German...
Dutch, Flemish, French, English
vierfach in German
;-)

And almost the same as Spanish! It would be doble, triple, cuádruple, quíntuple, ...

Latin, remember??? All Latin-based languages will have it like that and those with lots of Latin influences...
German and Russian are the only odd ones out... :P

8:10 PM
Nah, I bet you will find more languages on the world that don't follow the latin model...

Sorry! Of all the languages I know, Russian and German are the only odd ones out! :P ;-)

Hrmm, I have to write my German A-level exams tomorrow. Why did you have to remind me of that?
240 minutes sitting in a boring room in the 3rd floor with windows to the south (I hope it does not get hot!), getting stared on by two bored teachers and writing dozens of pages about an uninteresting topic... AWFUL!
10:43 hours left... That is SHHHHH###
And on Thursday follows the same with Maths

user136984
Ok, so I fixed all that stuff with the options and that, but still unsure of how to get the main functionality of the program working...

user136984
How do I make it search for a certain file and then edit that file?

@ByteCommander :D

user136984
8:25 PM
If some of the parent folders have unknown names.

@Toroidal By looking for an hour yourself, you'll never forget for the rest of your life! :P

user136984
@Fabby Yes, well if the program just said to them "Go look for it yourself now, for I am not helping you any more!", then there wouldn't be much point in the program! :P :D

user136984
Well, there could be a point...

>:)

user136984
But not the point that I'm looking for! :D

8:28 PM
@Fabby YOU are laughing about that... Ha. Ha. >:P
And on Monday I have to write English followed by my Physics A-Levels on Tuesday. I hate this week!

@NathanOsman Any chance you know the latest Windows 10 build number off the top of your head?

Afraid not.

hmm
I have a feeling 9926 is old now.

I'll see what I have in my VM.

but I can't find the normal option to upgrade builds so..

8:38 PM
I bet google might know it... :)

I have build 9926.
I'll check with Microsoft.
Confirmed - that is the latest build.

looks like 10036

Really?

oh really?

I'm just reading the build number off the ISO files Microsoft is hosting.

8:41 PM
@NathanOsman winbeta.org/news/…

That's the latest version they offer for download.

user136984
@Fabby: How do I locate a line in a file which contains a specific string? And then replace that line with another specific string? :)

oh those are just leaks..

> "Build 10036 was originally intended for Windows Insiders, but was not sent out to the public as it includes a number of nasty bugs. Microsoft could still opt to push out the build next week with a patch, or they'll drop an entire new build for Insiders to play with. I guess we'll have to wait and see."
No wonder it wasn't showing up.

8:42 PM
ah
ok
guess I'm stuck on 9926 then :/

Me too :P
I wonder if MSDN subscribers see anything different.

@NathanOsman Have a look here: buildfeed.net
@Toroidal Look for it yourself for the next hour, solve it yourself and remember it for the rest of your life! >:)

user136984
@Fabby Oh come on! I've been looking for the last few days and still haven't really found anything! :P :D

What's your code so far???

user136984
#!/bin/bash

echo "Hello $USER, in which mode would you like to continue the program? [Manual/Auto/Help]"
read option

if [ "$option" == "Manual" ]; then
echo "What is the full path to your netbeans config file?"
read nbcf
echo "What is the full path to your JDK installation folder?"
read jdkif
#Needs to actually put information now into netbeans config file.
elif [ "$option" == "Help" ]; then
echo " Manual = You will be prompted for each value."
echo " Auto = The program will look for the correct values, and if it is unable to find them will ask you to provide them."

user136984
8:48 PM
I decided to get the options thing working in a different way as I was having lots more problems with the normal way.

user136984
So what it needs to do with the manual thing is to actually put the correct information into the netbeans config file.

user136984
And that should be done by locating the line which handles where it thinks that JDK is installed and then changing that to the actual location.

user136984
I'm still working on the Automated one, but decided to get the Manual one done first.

the edit queue has edits with a lot of formatting key combos only... I rejected the ones that only touched one command and missed other more obvious things...

I would change it to "(m)anual, (a)uto, (h)elp" (and evtl (c)ancel) and let the user only type a single letter instead of the whole word. Or at least ignore the upper-case first letter! Nobody will type that.

user136984
8:52 PM
@ByteCommander I am forcing them not to be lazy with the way they type! >:)

@Toroidal Where's the code for finding inside a file???

plus it it more of a nice thing to do when fixing other things - since you need to use html it is more obscure so throwing in "proper way" on all kbd formatting... not really helping

I forgot to ask you: do you need additional translators for NitroShare?
If yes: Link?

@Fabby Not quite yet. But thanks for asking.
It's not quite ready for translating yet.
@Mateo I made another Ubuntu Touch app.

sweet
@NathanOsman what does it do?

8:55 PM
It's called "Wake It!" and it lets you send Wake-on-LAN packets to other devices through a network connection.

Let me know if you need Dutch, Flemish, French: no supervision needed.
Additional languages I need a reviewer...

@Toroidal You are annoying them and getting them one step closer to the window (which they will open to throw your app on the street...)
@Fabby I can help with German (of course) and a bit French and Spanish.

@ByteCommander: I can do the German if you review me! ;-)

oh, nice

No problem, as soon as I finished those exams...
Ans I should also prepare for a presentation in Chemistry in a few weeks! Oh nooo... I thought after my final exams life would become easier! Dangit!

9:00 PM
@Seth doesn’t look much different

@Fabby I would know somebody who might even do Portuguese, but I don't know how advanced he is, especially with technical vocab...

:)

anyone notice that if you turn off cortana - you don't have a file/program search to make up for that functionality? like in the start menu in 7 :/

@Mateo Sounds like one of my ex-GFs!

You mean when you prevent Windows from talking it stops thinking?
2

9:04 PM
:D :D :D
Good one!

@Fabby That was the same I wanted to add, except not with (ex-)girlfriend but women in common.

starred!

Who the hell is ringing our telephone at 10:04pm (22:04)??? I jumped!

@NathanOsman nice

@Mateo I wonder if a firewall rule could block Cortana from making outside requests yet keep the local search functionality working.

9:08 PM
hm, maybe.

user136984
@Fabby Oh... Sorry, old code in clipboard for some reason...

user136984
Here is what I have so far for reading the file which isn't going very well:

user136984
#!/bin/bash

echo "Hello $USER, in which mode would you like to continue the program? [Manual/Auto/Help]"
read option

if [ "$option" == "Manual" ]; then
echo "What is the full path to your netbeans config file?"
read nbcf
echo "What is the full path to your JDK installation folder?"
read jdkif

set $file = cat "$nbcf"
echo "$file"

elif [ "$option" == "Help" ]; then
echo " Manual = You will be prompted for each value."
echo " Auto = The program will look for the correct values, and if it is unable to find them will ask you to provide them."

if a firewall rule just gets bypassed, there's always n-codehook or detours.

at least on unity when turning off the online part, you still get regular local file search

user136984
9:09 PM
At the moment I am just trying to at least get it to tell me the contents of the file with cat, but it's not working... :(

user136984
@Fabby: If it helps, I am trying to automate this task.

What does it output if you write an echo before the cat and run it (for debugging to see what a command it creates)?

Although at Ask Ubuntu we don't mind helping you out by overcoming difficulties or correcting errors you might have writing your own scripts, we do mind a little providing you with a complete finished script with little or no work from your side... ;-)
I'm too tired to care now, sorry...
Going to bed!
Good night all!

Sleep well!

@Mateo I heard a rumour that spartan was out.. Guess not though.

9:16 PM
I should also leave now sooner or later. I have to be fit tomorrow... :P

user136984
@Fabby: Ok, goodnight, thanks for all the help you provided me with! :)

user136984
@ByteCommander There seems to be no output.

@Seth aw, well the last build said it - had some of something that was in spartan - don't remember what, maybe the page rendering?

The rendering engine is out.

user136984
Anyway... My team seems to have started to reply to my messages now so should be able to fix this soon. :D

9:17 PM
I can't remember exactly how but you can enable it in IE.

yeah, my build said it was setup with it on starting IE
and they wanted smiley and frown faces where things were good/bad
had emoji in the toolbar

@Mateo interesting.. that might have been it.

<del>set</del> $file = cat "$nbcf"
no HTML?

Use three "-"

@Toroidal leave the "set" away!

9:21 PM
"---like so---" => like so

Also... when assigning to variables in Bash, don't use $.

user136984
@ByteCommander Ok...

user136984
Will try that...

SOMEVAR=`cat whatever`

user136984
9:22 PM
Anyway, you should all take a break and listen to some of this! ;D

user136984
Or perhaps some of this:

user136984
:P

Would like to, but I better go to bed now. 9h 27min until my exam...
See you tomorrow maybe, if I survived the 4 hours of educational torture
Bye! o/

user136984
9:24 PM
@ByteCommander Ok, goodnight! :D

user136984
You know what?

user136984
I think that it's really funny that they sing "2 minutes to midnight" even though the song is about 6 minutes long! :D

hm, this also means you can't start typing to sort through the tiles...

user136984
@UbuntuQuestionsonU&L Take a break posting that stuff and listen to some of this!

user136984
:D :P

Yay! New Red album!
Sorta...it came out a while back and I just missed it :P
Dang. US Billboard #14 on its debut week. Not bad
O.O This is awesome :D
@Mateo BTW, have you sent those stickers? You can send them whenever, obviously, but I'm curious when to expect them :)

10:32 PM
@RPiAwesomeness oh, I have the envelopes, just need to put them in, write addresses, then go put stamps on them, and then finally send them - I have a day off tomorrow, so I'll probably put that on the list of things

@Mateo fair enough. I was just wondering if they had been sent already and chucked out by my dad or something :P

then however long the post system takes
lol, it will be hand written so it should look like a regular card would

I'm curious, which stickers are these? The assorted sheet?
Or the bubble dome ones?

yep, the first

10:36 PM
I only got a few of the dome ones
so those are all called for

That's fine. I would prefer the mixed sheet :D

so it has some various sized circle logos, a product sticker (simalar size to the intel or windows stickers)
and one that is the perfect size to replace the windows key on the back of a computer
and some small ones that are good for putting over the meta/super key

11:18 PM
it's getting rather crowded down there :P

I have an Apple sticker if you want it :P

@Seth lol. Mine has a Powered by Ubuntu sticker from System76 & and a Designed for Windows XP - Windows Vista Capable sticker
I'm gonna be removing that one soon.

@NathanOsman haha no thanks :P

@Seth Did you see the Piano Guy's newest video?
It's kinda funny.

11:26 PM
nope!
Oh that?! I saw it in my G+ stream but I thought it was from the classical music page.. I'll definitely take a look!

Yeah :)

11:42 PM
@NathanOsman lol, I have some too, but I never used them ;p

that's a nice looking sticker there!
I'm going to guess ivy bridge processor too >:)

@Mateo Nice :D

@Seth haswell I think
i7-4810MQ

aww, off by one :P
that really looks like a 3 sticker..
oh, nope, I guess not.
