@HunterStevens: That reminds me about a joke I made up about which Linux package manager is the tastiest... :P

kos
@HunterStevens You want apt-cache madison .

Besides using xfce, is there a difference between xubuntu and ubuntu?

user136984
@HunterStevens: There is a mouse I believe.

kos
(mind that the dot it's not the end of the statement, it's part of the command)

@HunterStevens I think Xubuntu just includes XFCE and its programs instead of Unity and its programs and that's the only difference

8:03 PM
Okay, thank you all.

So there are some apps that are different, but the OS itself is the same

Anonymous
It is recommended I use ubuntu for some contract work, but I do not like apt-get.

Anonymous
I want yum... :-(

user136984
Well, actually it's APT, apt-get is just a collection of useful scripts.

Can't you just install yum? @HunterStevens?

Anonymous
8:04 PM
I know this is dated, but yum still looks like this: docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/15/html/Deployment_Guide/…

Anonymous
@KGIII I have read that YUM only accepts RPM, while ubuntu is desgined for deb packages.

Hmm... That seems silly. :/ I can't say that I've ever tried to do so on Ubuntu.

Anonymous
@KGIII Well, thats what some forums have said. Anyone have experience with a different package manager for ubuntu?

Why not try it out and see?

user136984
@hg8: Have you got rid of your qTox profile picture by the way?

8:07 PM
I typically use Synaptic @HunterStevens. I think, I'm not positive, that you can alien the packages.

user136984
Because I can't see it any more and I'm wondering if it's just me...

@KGIII works in some cases

user136984
Though I am encountering a lot of bugs in that area.

@Zacharee1 I thought so. I'm not sure if I'd actually recommend that route. :/ As i recall, it's not always effective.

Like I said, some cases

8:09 PM
It looks like I do have it installed. I wonder what I converted? :/ That is checking my home box. It doesn't appear to be installed here.

user136984
@hg8: By the way, you might be interested in this. :)

user136984
@ByteCommander: Do you use Tox by the way? :)

@ParanoidPanda Yep.

user136984
@ByteCommander: Do you know if it's possible to track someone through Tox if they don't connect through Tor?

user136984
Because that thing's meant to be P2P, however when I captured packets entering leaving it I couldn't trace anyone nor could they trace me (well, my IP).

user136984
8:18 PM
So I was wondering how that works? Or if I am just not noticing the connections (as there are a lot of them)?

@HunterStevens it was just a thought

@ParanoidPanda Sorry, I don't know. Never researched that deep, I just use it and believe that it works and is secure. And I don't communicate with anybody I do not have at least a minimal level of trust in.
Need to go for today again. Seeya!

@HunterStevens you can try Ubuntu Software Center if you like. its Graphical. hope this helps

kos
See ya @ByteCommander
@HunterStevens You might want to give aptitude a shot

@ByteCommander goodnight

@ParanoidPanda Great! Upvoted and favorited ;)
@ParanoidPanda I have a problem with tox. My avatar disappear every time I restart it. I don't know why and I look like I am the only one affected by this bug.

kos
@GeoMint Yep. I think OP is blindly downvoting and randomly ranting without a real reason.

hahah ok
the whole page of the question is confusion
@kos this happend to me everytime at my laptop. my usb ports are not working right after some years :P too much usage
so the only way to install an operating system is CD or DVD :P

kos
@GeoMint If OP is angry at his USB ports they should express their anger otherwise though. XD

hehe

@ByteCommander: Bye! :)

user136984

Ok, I've read the question and my answer again three times, I still don't get the downvote. askubuntu.com/a/701257/380067. Not begging for upvotes, really, just give me a genuine review of the answer. I don't understand if the downvote came from OP during their enragment moment or there's really something wrong.

@A.B. Answer posted. askubuntu.com/a/701273/295286 cc @KGIII @ByteCommander @ParanoidPanda

user136984
@Serg: I have fixed your error by the way. ;P

user136984
But other than that, great answer! :)

@Serg I'm looking now. The missus is taking off with a debit card and my car for a little while so I'm going to read for a bit while the football game is making background noise. :D

9:38 PM
@ParanoidPanda which errors ?
Oh . . . .OK

@Serg Looks good. UV from me. :D

@KGIII @ParanoidPanda @A.B. thank you folks, I thoroughly enjoyed working on this script

That's important. :D If you're doing it for fun then it's probably not like work.

OK . . . .nicotine break and lunch . .. i havent eaten anything besides a sandwich since 6 AM

user136984
@Serg: And what's the time where you are now? Because here it's nearly 10 PM so I hope it's not that late where you are... :D

9:43 PM
It's 2:43 PM

Sound is disabled in chat now. Don't want it going bonk while I'm streaming football. :D I could just turn on the TV but the remote is so very far away.

user136984
@Serg: That's still a long time, you should definitely eat something now! :)

user136984
I'm always eating, at my computer... :P

user136984
Which doesn't always work out so well...

A: How do I format some code specifically for the language used? Or how do I prevent it to be formatted? Which languages are supported?

kosAdd the line <!-- language: <language_string> --> (where <language_string> is the string identifying the language) before the start of the code, and make sure that the code itself has an empty line before it: <!-- language: <language_string> --> ... <line 1> <line 2> <line 3> ...

Worth mentioning, with the collaboration of @muru and @terdon.

Q: “USB HDD” option replaced by “ubuntu” in BIOS, now cannot use USB boot media

kaziSo, being foolish old me, I tried to use os-uninstaller to remove my Windows installation and make way for Arch Linux. Unfortunately, now nothing on this computer boots, and I cannot even boot from a USB! The "USB HDD" option has completely disappeared from the BIOS and has been replaced by "ubu...

@muru: Do you know if 200 kbs would be considered a good broadband speed?

kos
@ParanoidPanda I don't know if aplay will support that file, but you can try putting aplay /path/to/file in Startup Applications.
If not aplay an equivalent one

user136984
@kos: Thanks! I'll give that a go tomorrow!

user136984
Goodnight! :)

kos
Night @ParanoidPanda!
