@fossfreedom that question echoes deep into my conscious now..
@jrg sounds like a good idea.
@jrg I need a couple of months to clarify my thoughts.

izx
<Jasper_Loy_on>That's conscience, pupil @jokerdino (raps knuckles with cane)</Jasper_Loy_off> :P
that was a fun interlude btw, bizarre in a good way

@jrg reminds me of sherlock holmes' first episode A Study in Pink

@izx Jasper Loy has nothing to do with this...

izx
@msPeachy How so? Oh you mean the BBC TV series...?

@jrg SE get 1000+ flags a day ... we get 50... we need more flags to get more mods.... more I said... more.

12:04 PM
@izx the book was study in scarlet. so should be the series
BTW, the series is called Sherlock not Sherlock Holmes.

izx
@jokerdino: BZZZZZZT!
"A Study in Pink" is the first episode of the television series Sherlock and first broadcast on BBC One and BBC HD on 25 July 2010. It introduces the main characters and resolves a murder mystery. It is loosely based upon the first Sherlock Holmes novel, A Study in Scarlet. The episode was written by Steven Moffat, who co-created the series. It was originally filmed as a 60-minute pilot for Sherlock, directed by Coky Giedroyc. However, the BBC decided not to transmit the pilot, but instead commissioned a series of three 90-minute episodes. The story was refilmed, this time directed by...

jrg
@fossfreedom MOAARRRR.

Yes, the BBC TV series. The first case where this cabbie guy pulled out two pills one was harmless and the other poisonous, and Sherlock had to choose one

@msPeachy funny you missed the Matrix reference.

jrg
@msPeachy They stole it from The Matrix.
[[File:RedpillMatrix.png|right|300px|thumb|"You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill – you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes." -Morpheus ]] The red pill and its opposite, the blue pill, are pop culture symbols representing the choice between the blissful ignorance of illusion (blue) and embracing the sometimes painful truth of reality (red). The terms, popularized in science fiction culture, derive from the 1999 film The Matrix. In the movie, the main character Neo is offe...

12:05 PM
Have we found a nerdette unaffected by the Matrix? :O

@jrg no, they didn't

jrg
BUG! HTTPS links to wikipedia to not onebox.

The book and the series only has white pills. So yeah..

I know blue and red pill was from the Matrix
but I thought of Sherlock first

You are not nerd enough then. :P

12:08 PM
@jokerdino was right it was loosely based on a novel, A Study in Scarlet by Sherlock Holmes.

I would say they took the novel and gave it contemporary touches.

@jokerdino is this for me?

@msPeachy sorta :P

Not nerd enough to be a mod??? lol

what??? lol

12:10 PM
nevermind

izx
So how warped/newb do you have to be to title a question on enabling auto-login as this (close-exact-dupe-please):

Admin Access Challenge??? lol..it's amusing though...
It is a challenge for him, I guess that's what he/she meant.

12:26 PM
at least I can keep track of new tags.

izx
@msPeachy Never mind us, we sometimes poke innocent-hearted fun but help out anyway, we aren't evil soulless BOFHs ;)

jrg
@izx Speak for yourself, I'm a evil soulless BOFH.

I mean, that's part of the job of moderator.

izx
@jrg We <3 you regardless ;)
@jokerdino Migrate to English.SE. Then we have a legit excuse for invading their chatroom...

:D hahaha

12:38 PM
Hello all

The news of the day, I hit the rep cap and ran past 10k.

... quick everybody downvote @jokerdino ...

@fossfreedom that would be funny :P

I'm half-tempted to change the title to "Which prince kissed my snowy white laptop and started getting it to wake up from sleep despite me not changing a thing?" :D askubuntu.com/questions/157629/…

I believe we have found a bug.

jrg
12:54 PM
What, mentions inside a code block?

@jrg That and it doesn't make the previous message highlight if it is higher than a certain length.

izx
@jok since you said you used kde4 for a bit, fancy another +150? askubuntu.com/questions/155355/…

I looked at it but I couldn't customize it myself.

izx
(I use that abbrev purely on Mobile view, no maheshilicious intent :)

12:58 PM
it's alright :P
and 10k is more than enough. i would let others grab it :)
nothing more to look forward to after this.

@jokerdino You forget 20K

... definitely nothing to see there.

nah. 20k is worse than 10k.
don't even mention 15k btw.

woohooo ... edit tags without peer review... must get to 20K...

it might be great for spammers.. not me though :P

1:02 PM
Hello all

jrg
@jokerdino now that you've got mod tools, i will be watching your account for... irregularities, such as gold watches in tag wikis. ;)

@jrg nah that is 20k tools :P

jrg
@jokerdino Oh, ok. I'll just wait then.

... I promised to kill all gold watch spammers ... and so I have

@jrg When a question is closed fro being a duplicate, isn't there a way to move the answers if any to the other question?

jrg
1:03 PM
So you did!!
@Mitch There is. Flag it or talk to FOSS, I'm about to leave for work.

@jrg nah i am not going for 20k.

jrg
Or you can wait 20 minutes and then I can deal with it, if you feel that is needed. ;)

i'll sit around and bounty excess rep.

jrg
@jokerdino oh no you don't.
please? bambi eyes

@jrg its not that big of a deal, but since you deleted the answer, sure

1:05 PM
lol i'll let others try the shiny tools
@AmithKK excess rep mind you

@Mitch whats the issue?

merge the deleted answer i think.

@jokerdino I'm kidding :D

izx
I can honestly say I look forward to protection and tag wiki edits more after the relative disappointment of 10k.

oh really? :P

1:08 PM
what Q? link.

A question was deleted because of a duplicate, and I was just wondering if the answer can be moved to the other question?

@izx I am looking forward to the ultimate tools

... hmm ... do you really think it adds anything more to the existing duped Q? - better to edit the existing excellent answer(s).

Not really.
But generally speaking can the answer be moved?

1:11 PM
10K is like speed shoes to moderation

@Mitch yeah

Cool

yes ... and I do if there is value to combine - its called merging. If the existing Answers covers the same ground - then no need to merge - just leave or delete.

only i can get grumpy if my answers are deleted.. so yeah :P
btw did i really hit the rep cap today? it looks very confusing.

yes, it looks like so
you got +200 bounty, but 410 - 200 = 210. askubuntu.com/users/25798/…

1:17 PM
i got 200, 15, 15 which are exempted from rep cap
i'll do the math. nvr mind.
ok math sorted out
i got 200 from bounty, 30 from accepts and 180 from upvotes. two upvotes unupvoted and one upvote to answer only registered as 5 because i had hit the rep cap at that point.
@izx hmm I don't have a Kubuntu cd. so, no way I can help..

1:32 PM

And then we have a new 10k user minted..

@izx did i read 'Mahesh'ilicious there???

jrg
Just my persona opinion, but that flag was about scifi. Getting all worked up over fiction is uh, shall we say a little silly.

@jrg you had any recent drain bamage?

jrg
@Mahesh No. You just didn't see the fiasco that just happened.

ah! makes sense then.

Well, I'm stuck here at work for the duration.
That weather front that sprung up last night moved faster than I was expecting.

hey - open query - I need a forum to test my rhythmbox PPA with v2.97 of rhythmbox - do you think UbuntuForums would allow this - if so which section? Ubuntu+1 guys seem to be gung-ho quantal guys so dont think it wise to post there.

@izx around?

jrg
@fossfreedom what kind of testing do you need done?

I was trying to get andrew of webupd8 to write a piece on my PPA but apparently he was having trouble getting it to work with v2.97 of rhythmbox - I think that's his PPA version. Looks like the rhythmbox devs have been breaking the APIs again - I just wanted to get some feedback.

3:21 PM
@HackToHell heh, sorta finished reading it now.
too much to read, will do later :P

lol, you need to read faster :P

i have a couple FB chats going on in the background as well

jrg
@jokerdino that reminds me of something threatlevel posted a few weeks or perhaps a month ago.

it probably was. didn't get around that one

3:41 PM
appears
Hello all
@fossfreedom Want me to post it on 2buntu?

3:55 PM
@AmithKK Hi there - thanks for the offer, are 2buntu readers just that readers or more hard-core testers?

@fossfreedom Not hard core :D
Let me go to analytics mode

he is talking about writing a review on 2buntu

...gung-ho ... yes in english-uk mode ... move to international-english mode

They are hard core

jrg

izx
@JorgeCastro yes, how can I help?

hey I was thinking maybe later we can do a 12.04 untagathon on the unsanswered questions?

izx
@JorgeCastro Absolutely, will get on it tonight...everyone on 12.04 wants to throw that in regardless!

4:03 PM
I have no plans tonight either
wanna tag team it?

izx
Sure, just lmk how that works, will be my first :)

jrg
@izx basically, you start at page 10000000 bajillion, jorge starts on page 1.
go through and untag as needed until you meet.
or get sick and tired, depressed and go jump of a cliff, whichever comes first.

izx
Fascinating, can't wait for it :P
Is there a nice expand-to-view inline type thing for that like the /review view?
@JorgeCastro: just a note that I'm on PDT, and out of town today for a bit, so should be able to start around 9 pm-ish my time. I see there's about 1900 Qs, so plenty to go around ;)

boom hi again!
@jrg soulless, probably. Evil, well... you havent reached that point yet.

jrg
@LordofTime consider yourself suspended.
I can't implode your account since the system wont let met.

4:16 PM
suspension without reason is abuse!
abuse can be reported on meta.askubuntu!
abuse reports are handled accordingly!
so I ask you, do you want to risk it?
>:)
(of course, i could just bring it up on meta.so, which is WORSE)
returns to EvilCode

izx
What is this "abus" -- I prefer "dbus"...

@izr Rock, I'll be around

@izx apparently, my keyboard doesnt like the word "abuse"

@JorgeCastro Cool

@fossfreedom you mean the job of being a moderator?
... oh dear... that track is playing again
why is it favored when i'm playing my music on "shuffle"

what track?

@msPeachy hi there, how goes it.
oh, just a track called "Doomsday", its one of twenty thousand songs i listen to
so it should NOT be playing every 20 songs.
(whenever that track comes on, it means bad things are coming)

@LordofTime I don't think I've heard of it.

you probably havent :P

@LordofTime ohh you better watch out then :P

4:25 PM
@LordofTime Its not related to The Doomsday Zone, is it?

Q: Has Ubuntu figured out how to support laptop battery power management yet?

danI've had several Thinkpads in recent years and installed Ubuntu, starting from 10.04 on every one. I love using Ubuntu, but the battery life always fell short. I never got even 40 percent of the battery life that was expected on these laptop models when running Windows. What are the roadblock...

5:23 PM
adding a will do the job nicely. :)

you seem to be missing meta vs. main

Would anyone be willing to give me some pointers related to installing wireless card drivers?

@Wackidev which wifi card
@Zypher sup

jrg
5:26 PM
Uh-oh, Kyle's minion is in here. dun dun dun...

picks up the BFG, begins polishing it

@LordofTime apologies for my newness, but where do I look? ;)

who's minion is here...?

I am not sure, But seems to me, I have seen this bug before . Link

@Wackidev in terminal: lspci. pastebin the results.

hhh
5:27 PM
http://packages.ubuntu.com/en/quantal/i386/libapache2-mod-proxy-html/download

<-- could someone help me install this?
(tried with apt-get and dpkg but not succeeding)
@LordofTime sorry not working, apt-get has old stuff...

bleh
whatever
/me beats the computer
@hhh it won't upgrade it
@hhh it'll use whatever's in your version of Ubuntu
@hhh which ubuntu are you on? 12.04?

@LordofTime I don't have an Internet connection on that computer. Which part of the output do you need?

@Wackidev all of it, but if you dont have internet on the computer, and cant get the output here, we cant really help

hhh
@LordofTime 12.04, apt-get provides 3.0.1-1 -- that is unpatched version, broken.

@hhh and i should care... why?
first off, apache is evil
its a memory whore

5:30 PM
I can get a wired connection, and I can jump drive the output over here to post it. I was just hoping I wouldn't have to. :P @LordofTime

second, if its bugged or broken, file a bug
bleh, where the hell is the SRU format...
is not pleased
@hhh explain why its broken to me, in a paragraph (10 sentences maximum)
or file a bug and give me the link

@LordofTime if you can tell me how to fix it myself I'll gladly do so. Do I just need to find the driver number on the manufacturer's website and install it on my machine?

nevermind i'll do it
@Wackidev not exactly, thats why i asked for the info about the card

Looks like we have stuff from ATI, Broadcom and Texas Instruments in there.

and as i said, not helpful

5:35 PM
Can you outline the driver acquisition process if you have time?

that's why i want the output
(its probably a broadcom card, and you can probably fix it if you have internet access)

I can wire it up later. Is the process after that simple?
@LordofTime

@Wackidev if your card has drivers in the "Additional Drivers" tool, its just download-install-select-reboot.
the setup's automatic
but then test afterwards and see if its fixed
returns to bugstuff

@LordofTime I already used "Additional Drivers" and it claimed to work.
It didn't.

@hhh also, according to the Debian bug, that package is going to be included in Apache (if i'm reading the Debian bug right)

5:44 PM
@LordofTime I don't have time to do the whole thing now. Is there a one-sentence explanation for what I have to do?

nope
installing drivers is a LOT harder than you'd think.
(its not Windows)

OK. Thanks for the help.
Bye.

what kind of wireless card?

hhh
@LordofTime sorry everything is explained http://askubuntu.com/questions/158909/how-to-patch-apache-mod-proxy-3-0-1-with-3-0-1-1-1-in-12-04, patch is already available. Apt-get provides old version and "$ dpkg -i *.deb" ends to iU -mode seen with `$ dpkg -l` i.e. not installed but unpacked.

Because I cannot understand how to do the manual installation, I put 11.10 Ubuntu to virtualbox until apt-get gets the patch in. No reason to stress :)
(stupid 12.04 bug, just my stupidity to go *.04 -version...)

the bug is fixed
you need to update
