@jrg @izx: its either my nature of nit-picking you deal with, or you get the two-hour rage session about why windows 8 will be the ultimate downfall of Microsoft, thus giving way to the Linux revolution.
Bounty offered: How do I enable compiz "scale window title filter" on 12.04? http://askubuntu.com/questions/143589/how-do-i-enable-compiz-scale-window-title-filter-on-12-04?atw=1 #compiz
a dozen or more - yes - I want individual packages, then a meta package that will be an optional to install all of them. Basically flexibility of individual plugins (packages) vs a grand "lets install all" package.
@fossfreedom what i mean is you can crreate a single source package (lets call it rythmbox-plugins), and inside that you have everything for every plugin, and individudal installation guidelines and entries in debian/control for each binary (rythmbox-plugins-[pluginnamehere], for each plugin)
@fossfreedom the php5, nginx, and numerous other packages all have that kind of setup
@fossfreedom indeed. because if its a closed source or restricted-use license, you can't publish source packages, and can only distribute the built binaries (and you'll need someone to build them locally)
@drecute i did recommend asking a question as a post to askubuntu or asking on the IRC :P
@jrg although while the news reports Hell on earth, there are some cool things. take for example glass that is flexible. foxnews.com/scitech/2012/06/04/…
ooh, and facebook's coming close to violating the COPPA laws :P
@jokerdino , that was a messed up chat, I was reading through some of that. I thought you were trying to say that the conversation here was reaching those levels, clear now.
@jokerdino well be glad you're not working for facebook. they may violate US laws if they go through with allowing under-13-yearolds to register on the site
there's a ton of legal policies in place against it
the COPPA act is a regulation prohibiting < 13 year olds from registering online. And if you comply, and allow 13 year olds to register, they get blocked until a permission slip is sent in to the company, either by fax or mail
in the US
failure to comply means you need to block < 13 year olds from registering (ban them)
and failure to do that and allowing them to register without compliance to the law is punsihable
I wish to run XBMC, without a desktop environment and without lightdm... this is fine, I can install ubuntu minimal, xorg and xbmc and startx xbmc --standalone.... and it all works, sort of. Its really sluggish though, apparently this is because XBMC requires pulse audio. If I install lightdm the performance issues are all resolved (because lightdm starts pulse) so I am wondering how can I start pulse without a DE?
@stueng understood, it's a kind of trade off though: keep lightdm and everything is success. Wrestle with pulseaudio in destop manager-less environment
it was an incident response distribution where they tried to make money on training. when they didn't make as much as they wanted, they started forcing registration/payment for ISOs
@LordofTime I'm there often enough as is, but I have friends there. It wouldn't be all that bad...but I don't think I need a specifically allocated visit.
what this hybrid RAID does it take those "lost" 2 X 1TB areas of disk and creates a RAID 1 mirror between them and adds it to the original RAID 5 volume of space
