jrg
6:00 PM
@DavidOneill Lets say I log in at work, and then forget to disconnect before I go home.

Oli
@DavidOneill I constantly have more than one SSH connection to my server (one might be running something interactive and I'll want to run something else)

jrg
I get home and need to reconnect - screen will complain, but i can do it, tmux just says "oh here you go sir" and i'm back.

@Oli For this, I ssh to the sever, and create the session there, since 95% of what i do is there

Oli
Sure, I'm not saying I couln't just have one mux'd connection, but in practice I find it easier to work with multiple windows/split windows like terminator... They seem more flexible locally, so I just fire off a billion SSH connections.

jrg
@DavidOneill there is no really, super awesome reason to use tmux over screen.
its just personal preference, and like all personal preference, this is subjective. :)

6:02 PM
my two primary motivations for using screen are 1) be able to handle multiple windows and 2) not losing my stuff when my sessions dies

jrg
tmux lets you do both of those.

@jrg I certainly understand that, but i like to ask people what's behind their preferences, because i often learn a lot when i do :)

jrg
So here I have my normal tmux setup (i'm cheating and using byobu, but still.)
I have my system monitor up top, my editor sandwhiched in the middle, top in the bottom left and then just a random terminal in the bottom right.

cool! and is it pretty easy to switch between windows once you're used to the commands?

jrg
Very easy, using byobu, I just do Shift-Arrows to move around.
the nice thing about the byobu tmux configuration is that everything uses ctrl-F key or shift-F key, so it doesn't interfere with most other keyboard shortcuts that you might be using.

6:07 PM
searches and reads about what byobu is

jrg
I use the byobu ppa, it has some extra features that normal stock byobu doesn't have.
@OctavianDamiean hallo!

Hello!

I'ma in the OMG!ubuntu!

jrg
6:17 PM
@legospace9876 Welcome!
@jokerdino :O Congrats!!

:D

jrg
@jokerdino :D

jrg, turn up tmrw for Fix it Friday, we can fix bugs together

jrg
6:21 PM
i'll see what I can do. :)

Or, if you want a head start with the bugs - pad.ubuntu.com/OsSL8mOs2o

@jokerdino Congrats on the sync!

Thanks :D
(Though I didn't anything special. It just did itself in)
I think I can sync a lot more packages for 12.10

How to insert picture in chat?

Because of the feature freeze, syncing is a bit difficult.
@legospace9876 Click on upload button
Or are you just pasting a link to a picture?

6:26 PM
OK.

Is iPad 3 released already? Sorry, looks like it did.

Actually no.

I usually skip Apple news.

I don't think it's supposed to be released 'till the 16th.

Oh. So, it is just a press release.

And it's not technically the iPad "3":
> "Apple didn’t bother to number its creation. The new iPad will simply be called “new iPad”...maybe because there really isn’t that much new to it."

Yes.
It isn't finaly version.

jrg
couldn't call it the iPad 2S, that just doesn't work.

6:34 PM
I say forget it - Android 3 FTW!

Better name is iPad dual-FHD, but ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity is better from iPad 3.
Android MWC 2012 is go out from Google Play Store, but I have it on my LG Optimus 2X.

jrg
Thoughts so far?

What is this?

jrg
depends on what you mean by "this".

Your picture.

jrg
6:43 PM
what it is depends on your point of view. it could be one of a few things:

jrg
- A meaningless screenshot.
- The start of a webapplication. (which is what I think it is)
- Yet another worthless project on the internet. :)
Does anyone have feedback on the typography? I'm trying to decide if I should stick with bootstraps stock fonts, or move to something else.

I am heading back to work. See ya lter

jrg
cya @jokerdino, and again, congrats on getting mentioned in OMG! :)

@jrg I would be curious to see a screenshot with another font.

jrg
6:46 PM
ok, let me take one.

jrg
Dangit, bootstrap isn't letting me swap the fonts.

7:16 PM
www.playdom.com is not aviaible.

@GeorgeEdison I personally think no one is deploying any of the charms yet, once the store lands though it'll totally change that

Right.

@jrg star is for the Han quotes.

@GeorgeEdison I am convinced this will monumentally change everything about ubuntu server, but I can't blog it until it works, then it'll be obvious to people, heh

See ultra-cool Angry Birds Space Announcement at: space.angrybirds.com.

7:23 PM
@legospace9876 that really doesn't have anything to do with Ubuntu...

Appears on all PC systems over the web.
I recieved "Talkative" badge on askubuntu.com,

jrg
@rlemon let me pull up the star wars lipsum generator

@OctavianDamiean wanna write me a python script?

Q: Are there drivers for Intel GMA 4500 integrated graphics for 64-bit Ubuntu 11.10?

legospace9876I use the Lenovo N500 notebook and I installed on it 64-bit Ubuntu 11.10. All components except the Ubuntu recognized the graphics and they appear bugs when playing Flash games. Do 64-bit Ubuntu 11.10 can recognize the Intel 4500M integrated graphics?

Q: What happened to the JSON documentation for the API?

George EdisonBack in version 1.1 of the API, we used to be able to do: http://api.stackoverflow.com/1.1/questions?help ...which would return information about the method in JSON format. However, attempting to do the same with v2.0 of the API fails: http://api.stackexchange.com/2.0/questions?help I...

OK.
I have low reputation.

@legospace9876 That's okay. Thanks for trying.

jrg
Wait...

@rlemon What should it do?

jrg
the homepage now updates when there is a new question.

7:51 PM
@jrg That's been there for almost a week now.

@OctavianDamiean what I said on the next line :P

jrg
Oh, i just never noticed.

Actually - I'm not sure if it has been on Ask Ubuntu for a week.
It was rolled out on Meta.SO first, IIRC.

Oh, right. :D

new car \o/

jrg
7:52 PM
@BrunoPereira Sweet!

yeah, last one sucked and I had to wait 3 years to get a new one ;)

@rlemon Not sure if you really need Python for that to be honest.

also got a hair cut and beard trimmed!

That sounds like a simple enough job for a shell script.

but I want it done in python. :P
i don't know python - some times if what i'm asking for seems redundant it is meant to be for learning purposes.

7:55 PM

@BrunoPereira what kind?

@rlemon haircut? You know, the standard, I am really happy with the beard though, I looked like a caveman ;)

@BrunoPereira lol I mean car: but I also was fully interested in knowing about your facial hair removal process.
@BrunoPereira nice looking ride.

@legospace9876 What about it?

@rlemon thx ;)

jrg
8:01 PM
@rlemon That is how I got sucked into ruby - some wise dude told me that my idea would be really easy to do in rails... 2 years later and I have no clue what my idea was.

@GeorgeEdison I just wanted to show the script of this page you can modify.

@jrg yea but Ruby vs Python.... is like crop-duster vs 747

jrg
@rlemon you got that backwards. ;)

@rlemon Very funny.
@rlemon OK.

@rlemon What distro is that for?

> *One of the main advantages of the asynchronous snippet is that you can position it at the top of the HTML document. This increases the likelihood that the tracking beacon will be sent before the user leaves the page. It is customary to place JavaScript code in the <head> section, and we recommend placing the snippet at the bottom of the <head> section for best performance.
really google?!?!?! you couldn't be more wrong on this point.
@OctavianDamiean 11.10 i386 server

jrg
Common People @rlemon.

@rlemon Is there a special reason you can't just use apt-get directly?

8:09 PM
@OctavianDamiean because there are like 90 packages I want to remove.
I don't want to remove them all by hand.

@jrg think this is my fav version from that song

jrg
@BrunoPereira I love it. :D

@rlemon Got you.

I love Ubuntu.
I found this post at Phone Arena: phonearena.com/news/…

8:18 PM
Alright @rlemon. sudo apt-get purge -y $(cat pkg.lst)
Where pkg.lst is a list of space separated packages.
Just to warn you, the -y flag is kinda dangerous.

jrg
The -y flag is incredibly dangerous.

It is only for cases where you know exactly what you want to remove.
In such a case I propose the use of -s (--simulate) before you use the command,

it does what the description says it does

@OctavianDamiean I agree.

And by list of space separated packages I meant a file containing that list.

8:23 PM
hokay - so when i'm ready i'll just come to you guys :P gotcha
I want one....

For that I'd need a Galaxy Nexus first. :P

Right now I have one of these (see below) stuck to my desk with a usb cable married to it

@rlemon You are very funny.

Thats part of being a lemon - we're always either hanging around or making you do funny faces

my girlfriend calls me her main squeeze
sometimes I can have a sour demeanor
I can admit to being yellow-bellied.

jrg
you're just fishing for stars aren't you. ;)
@rlemon Yellow-bellied? lol.

If i were fishing for stars I would use a super-massive black hole. buh-dum-dum
/me fishing for the luls.

I want one.

8:57 PM
Eww, that looks like an apple device in the background.

Can you answer this? Allowing Flash to access the clipboard http://askubuntu.com/questions/61294/allowing-flash-to-access-the-clipboard #firefox

@rlemon No, thats HP monitor.

@rlemon Could you please do something for which I'll get a Github notification?
Comment on an íssue I've reported or something.

jrg
I'm not rlemon, but notification incoming.

Oh awesome. Thanks.

jrg
9:06 PM
get one?

Yup thanks. :)

jrg
welcome.
(I suspect I know what you needed that for)

Perfect.
I'll send the author if this extension a pull request with a fix to only show a count badge when there is a notification or message,
Currently it displays a zero if there is no unread notification or message which is a bit annoying,

I have one.
It is works on capacitive and resistive screens.
And it is beautyful.

@OctavianDamiean sorry bro was making a new pot of coffee.
It is works on capacitive and resistive screens.
And it is beautyful.
</troll>

9:15 PM
@rlemon Are you normally?

a troll? yes
an index finger? no, but I have two of them - and one at home.
however due to legal complications I can't go into detail about how I acquired the third.
and if by some random chance you viewed the index finger as "number one", then yes... i'm number one

@rlemon What are you talking about has nothing to do with life.

@legospace9876 dude, we're on the internet chatting - i'm pretty sure 'life' is out the window.

The index finger has nothing to do with what is being said here.

9:19 PM
loves open source projects

@OctavianDamiean I too.

I'm convinced Django is the single best thing since sliced bread.

This just doesn't make sense ... why does Github always create a new issue when I submit a pull request?

NO epic fail

What?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

9:22 PM
there was a typo
dude = you posted a picture of a stylus = i posted a picture of an index finger because it is your personal stylus.

You are not normally.

ffs explaining why my troll was mildly funny just ruined any humour it had. I hope your happy!
@legospace9876 I am not normally what?!?!?!
I am not normal??
hang around the chat some more and you'll get used to me.

I was only fooling.

jrg
Relax guys.

Oh my god ... does he really add the two values and then convert them to a string!?

jrg
9:26 PM
REFACTOR!

If so, my change will fail and always be true ...
I thought it would be a number I'm checking against.
Why did he do that!?
Gosh ... that is frustrating.

jrg
Boom, just got 30 rep on onstartups by doing my normal front page domination via edit thing. nods Like a boss. :D

ohhhhhhhh ok

@rlemon I know but now I have to close my pull request and send a new one ...

9:30 PM
well isn't that just the cat's pyjamas

Huh?
You mean Octocat?

however I was using the term sarcastically for the negative effect.
if your not up on your 1920's catch-phrases then I can't talk to you anymore. :/

lol

there's poo in the sandbox :P

jrg
Haha.

@htorque Heh... right in my own city and I didn't go :P

jrg
Well, thats an interesting bug.

9:48 PM
go! i imagine that's an awesome event.

jrg
My responsive bootstrap works fine in chrome, but renders the full width version for my iPod. sigh
@GeorgeEdison Go! Maybe you can break into chrome and get money money money. :p

I doubt it :P

breaking a win7 box - how hard can that be? :D

What was the bug they found anyway?
@jrg Did you include the responsive CSS file?

9:57 PM
@rlemon Option b.

LOL
AAAAAnnnnd we're back!

I've also submitted a new fixed fix for that extension. :D

@GeorgeEdison afaict it's not public and even chrome doesn't know (they guess it's something with flash - surprise)

10:28 PM
there are plenty of exploitable flash bugs in chrome. multi-tabbed browsing makes a lot of things go wonky. just saying.

@aking1012 I think the NPAPI plugin interface needs to change.

@GeorgeEdison possibly. I'm not sure it ever will though. Saying we don't support tabs in public would nuke flash...and adobe has a considerable amount of money to throw around.
plenty of apps say we don't support tabs as a FAQ why is this stuff crashing answer, but none of them want a 'tabbed support' at load answer
maybe i misunderstood you, but i thought you meant a tabbed browsing support flag in the plugin api

does anyone else see issues with twitter bootstrap on chrome 17 + ubuntu
specifically look at <h1>some title with <small>small text</small></h1>
half the time the small text renders a few pixles to the left from where it is supposed to be.
refresh the page or force a reflow and your fine.

seems like a screen geometry snafu to me. i use xinerama so that's normal for me

it's annoying as hell. i first thought there was an issue with the css.
