Restart to complete update

Hello everyone

@Achu o/

\o
My Ipod keeps restarting any solution idea?

no idea - maybe @Alvar has (he is more into iStuff than me)

Good @Alvar What do you think?

2:40 PM
@Achu ehm did u trop it?
on the floor or so?

No at all

my tip is to connect with itunes or simialr and restore the software

it happens the middle of working

@Achu restore with itunes

I tried but it doesn't connect at all
keeps restarting over and over again

2:42 PM
@Achu do you have any warranty or so?

Noop

what model is it?

just a sec
@Alvar It's iPod nano 8GB

ok
what year model?

hmm year model
how can i check that

2:47 PM
5th generation?
if you connect it to itunes

i think so but. to be sure how can i check that?

if you connect to itunes you can see what software version you ahve
if you now that you can download a new version of that and install that

that's a good idea. but the connection is not staying
it keeps restarting

if you hold "menu" and middle button
does it force a reboot here?

ok let me try that

2:53 PM
if it works. have it plugged into itunes before u do the command!

Yeah i do plugged in itunes
it was restart
and back to the trouble

if you follow this.
1 plug in to itunes
2 restart with the home and middle button.
does it come up in itunes then?
@Achu how did you notice this problem? was it sudden?
how old is it?

@Alvar the ipod is almost 2 years
i follow the steps but it doesn't come up into itunes
@Alvar do you think its old?

@Achu not really... it depends if you drop it or so it will die after two years.
from here you can download ipod software
you need to know what generation it is
if you have the date it was purchased you can get what model it is...

Ok i will download the firmware. The thing is If it's keep restarting again and again How can i install?

3:01 PM
@Achu if it keeps restarting like that it means something is broken inside

it might be the hard drive that is un readable or similar...
The iPod Nano (trademarked, marketed, and stylized as iPod nano) is a digital media player designed and marketed by Apple. The first generation of the iPod Nano was introduced in the end of 2005 as a replacement for the iPod Mini. It uses flash memory for storage. The iPod Nano has gone through six models, or generations, since its introduction. The current "sixth generation" iPod Nano supports FM radio, a pedometer, and a square 240x240 display with a multitouch interface. Supported audio formats *AAC (16 to 320 kbps) *Protected AAC (from the iTunes Store) *MP3 (16 to 320 Ki...
I would guess that your model is the 4th

ʘ‿ʘ

I dropped my ipod video and it kept restarting too, and there it was the battery
and the hard drive (it had a real hard drive)...
brb

I didn't drop it i guess mine problem is firmware
corruption

3:05 PM
ʘ_ʘ

@Alvar Never mind, it is not a big issue to be raised here. I will fixed or i will replace it.
@Alvar Thank you for your effort

@StefanoPalazzo stefano you want to merge into an hibrid project?, im not PRO at python but...

sorry I don't have the time to do that

at the moment, the only way I'm going to be working seriously on victory chat is if I get paid for it :)
so, probably not at all ;)
by the way, you might find it interesting to note that a company called 37signals is making a lot of money with a very similar product
It' called "campfire" I think
yeah it is: campfirenow.com

yes, cheking it, it doesnt include video, like mine
interesting

if you want to see video done well, check out google hangouts
they are really doing a fantastic job on that
never hurts to be inspired by great products (rd.: steal ideas from the right people) ;)

5:47 PM
Hello everyone

hello @Marco

Finally unpacked, and all visitors are gone

how great. settling in alright?

Yeah, we need to buy some more furniture for the office, but that'll happen next month. I'll probably through pictures up soon

5:56 PM
fantastic. I'm told you're about to marry your girlfriend soon too?
it's the current gossip here :-)

No, I made a subtle joke about her parents visiting by calling them "in-laws"

hah
that got out of hand then :D

I imagine Amith is behind this :)

sound strange for non english people when someone use the anything-in-laws

shouldn't say that.. I will not engage in gossip...
too late I guess

6:04 PM
haha
Anyways, not getting married anytime soon

I'll spread the word ;-)

ʘ_ʘ

I never believe in gossips until they become true

ʘ_ʘ

evening @kernal :)

^^

kernal panic

xD
does anyone knows a good starting point to learn python?
:)

6:54 PM
you came to the right place ;)

im a self-learner of python

:)

i go from ultra-no0b to standard-no0b

we've just had an Ask Ubuntu Classroom session on python

^‿^
python on ubuntu is amazing

6:55 PM
@kernal along with the official Python tutorial at docs.python.org, you might find this helpful: chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/663/conversation/…

it cant be so cool and easy

sorry mates, g2g right now U.U let me the messages and I'll read them later, please!! ^^

I'm going to do part two of this session, focussing on Gtk app development, after the Ubuntu Developer week is over

what are you interested kernal ?

I want to contribute somehow to the ubuntu project
and I see Canonical use python a lot

6:57 PM
they do indeed

so I thought it could be interesting learning it

the best is to pick up the mini bugs
but u have to learn a lot of gtk
i dont like gtk, thats why i dont contribute there

you make it sound so hard ;) Gtk is very easy to learn
as I shall prove in a week

tkinter--->python-dialog--->wxpython--->web(bottle, pyJs, etc)
i dont say its hard, i say i dont like, the same as Qt
@StefanoPalazzo i have added GTK support on Tk

huh?!
explain :)

7:02 PM
yep
my Tk got GTK support

how does that work?

@StefanoPalazzo that window is Tk but got GTK look and feel integrated: lh5.googleusercontent.com/_aWHwXiftflE/TXlhIdeeboI/AAAAAAAAAOc/…
its a module for Tk, that you import and it adds GTK support

ah now I understand

Tk normally uses 50-75% less lines than gtk
@StefanoPalazzo see the appz: wiki.ubuntu.com/juancarlospaco

We are currently offline for maintenance
at askubuntu.com
ಥ_ಥ

7:34 PM
hi all...

hi @Alvar

:D

sup? still sunshine in sweden?

@Takkat I think the sun has almost set now.

:)

7:36 PM
@Takkat I ran 11 km before...

that is 11264 meters! I'm impressed
you do marathon?

@Takkat r u sad that germany lost in the world cup?

lol - it's not Germany as a whole isn't it?

@Takkat no, too boring, nothing happens.

flushes your blood with endorphins to make you feel good afterwards
like car racing
only you may not feel good at the end

7:40 PM
hehe

We miss all the good questions that may have been asked during maintenance :(

haha

I always think about a good Q to get peer pressure badge
That's hard to get before the Q is closed!

HAHA peer presure badge lol

these are some weird badges...

7:43 PM
I think it's more common to get peer pressure on Answers rather than questions

@Takkat lol do hey exist?! wtf

it's "deleted a post with a score of -2 or lower", right?
I don't know anything about Ubuntu or AU while the site is down for maintenance :P

how can the chat work then

yeah we tend to forget reality as soon as we don't see it anymore
peer pressure is -3 or lower - hard to get for questions

7:48 PM
@Takkat well start a question with a HUGE bug message

Rinzwind got it by moving a great answer to a different, better suited, question :-)

rofl

sorry, never mind me - I'm confusing it with the other badge - deleted an answer of +3 or higher
acute withdrawal

yeah that's easier to get - but this is not multiple is it?

don't ask me, I don't know anything
ubu-what?!

7:51 PM
Allabout Ubunut on chatexchange?
3

Site still offline?

they say less than an hour...

Sure... I have an answer I'm waiting to post.
@StefanoPalazzo: Did you get my message?

@GeorgeEdison yeah I did
haven't had time to check it out yet
checks it out now

Check out the preferences page!

7:57 PM
@GeorgeEdison what does "Automatic Indentation" do?

It just indents the next line the same as the current line.
It's still a work in progress.

yeah I see, nice!

I'm working on line numbers now.

can you mark changed documents with an asterisk like gedit does?

Doesn't it do that?
It's supposed to.

7:59 PM
mh, no I don't see it

OMG! askubuntu.com is offline!!!
xD

Hmmm, that's a bug then.
Now the site isn't even responding.

Argh!
like an idiot I went to bbc.co.uk, and now they've spoiled the result of the british grand prix for me :-(
I'm a real numpty sometimes :P

> 24 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 22999ms
Yup, it's offline :)
It's up now.
...but I still get the offline message.

@George do you plan to implement the symbol tree for python as well?

8:10 PM
Symbol tree?

the browser thing on the left :)

Like you mean the list of functions / classes defined in the file?

Yes, but that will be hard.
It will take some time.

ugh, We're back! Finally! vi was written by Bill Joy in 1976!
Ubuntu 4.10, Warty Warthog was released in October 2004, support ended in April 2006

8:11 PM
What does that have to do with anything?

27 mins ago, by Stefano Palazzo
I don't know anything about Ubuntu or AU while the site is down for maintenance :P
@GeorgeEdison maybe that's a good candidate for the "someone else will do it once it's popular"-list

@StefanoPalazzo That would be sweet.
That's why I'm focusing on the essentials like line numbering, etc.
Once the core is in place, the rest will hopefully get easier.

yawn
sup

Not much... adding line numbers to JS Studio.

8:43 PM
cool
i'm still tryin to recover all my configuration stuff from my 10.04 installation :P
speaking of which i wonder if my eclipse install's configuration is still around there
and did i mention that i hate Unity yet?

@GeorgeEdison if its the same JS Studio from Launchpad seems interesting!, it support CoffeeScript ?

@juancarlospaco No, afraid not.
It's still in its early stages

@GeorgeEdison ಥ_ಥ
@GeorgeEdison ok ^‿^

swears loudly STUPID EVIL UNITY MUST DIE!!!!!
it gets in the way every time i'm trying to find something

Unity is a little hard to get used to.

8:57 PM
i may help you but i dunno C++

Well, it's not too bad since it uses the Qt framework, which is excellent.
If you are really interested, you can always take a look at the source to get an idea of how things are laid out.

but i dunno Qt
lol
