Been trying to figure out how to adapt some of my in-class exercises to work with distance learning for the new semester starting next month.
I'm thinking I can do some of them via a web applet - HTML5+JS or Unity WebGL - but I'll need some server-side support to coordinate interactions between folks in the class. That'll be a new challenge for me.

sounds fun

Checking what server-side stuff my current host supports. Looks like my options are Python, Perl, or PHP, and MySQL.
Barely touched any of those. So I've got a steep learning curve and some tech evaluation ahead of me!

7:36 PM
...or you check for a new host?

Yeah, that might be a more practical answer. I'd probably be happier in the long run with something that'll run Node.js so I could share a codebase for front & back-end.

That's presumably be more expensive, though. :/

Hmm... doesn't look too bad. I'm seeing some offered in the $5-10 per month range. That's less than I usually spend on class supplies.

7:52 PM
Cool then!
You pay for class supplies?

Say when I want to play card games - we don't have enough decks in the classrooms to cover everyone, so I bring in pile of fresh ones that I know are complete.

Yeah, ok, I suppose a bunch of those come in cheap from the Dollar store?

Yep. But still, a bunch of cards one week, a bunch of post-its another week, dice another week - it adds up. So, doing it digitally will actually be saving me money, even if my hosting costs double/triple.
Though the commute to class is by far the biggest expense I'm saving.

Ah, you used to walk to work, so did not need a monthly pass that would get you there "for free"?

8:55 PM
I did. Also, the school I teach at is four cities over, so it needs a different train than the ones I'd use to get around Toronto.

Hi
What are good free lowpoly packs on the Unity Asset Store?

You'll have to hunt through them
like, what kind of models are you even looking for
it's unlikely someone else here has had the exact same requirements you have

Kenney.nl has some good free packs too.
