my school is more like $16k, I applied for scholarships like a part time job for 1.5 years before I started, and the school itself gave me $6k/year for my grades, I got two loans, and I'm still paying a nasty chunk out of pocket. don't count too much on scholarships.
Awesome quality of education, terrible quality of life.
@PythonInProgress And they're putting money away for you? Either they are awesome parents, or they're gonna shaft you and take out of it to make payments eventually.
my parents decided to have 5 kids and not set aside money for anything other than their own retirement, not paying a single penny toward the college education of any of the kids, or even for gas money. they pay insurance right now because it's a lot cheaper to add onto the plan they already have, and I eat the food they buy, but that's about it
I'm also routinely threatened with being kicked out of the house for trivial or semi-trivial things, fully knowing that would force me to drop out of college and lose almost all chances of working with computers within the next decade
I was trying to get people to stop downloading things yesterday because I wasn't able to use the internet, and people started yelling at me and accusing me of wanting to be the only one allowed to use the internet at all, so I raised my voice back pointing out how fucking retarded that claim is. my dad walks in, says not to "shout" or he'll move me out.
good daniel (my partner) is currently making it compatible with linux we are trying to spread the word about it but yeah just changing some small stuff
@AlexM. @AlexM. my parents are batshit insane Christians (I'm not, but if they knew that I wouldn't be allowed back in the house). my only conversations with my dad involve him yelling at me, me trying to defend myself, and then me shutting up when he threatens to move me out. my mom is cool, but entirely apathetic and doesn't ever contradict my dad. two of my siblings are the typical "popular kids" who are really just jerks to everyone, especially me...
I have no social life, other than the "friends" at the church I'm forced to attend twice a week. They're nice people, but completely stupid, and not capable of understanding anything more complicated than typical landscaping or farm work.
I've also been well trained to plan out every tiny little detail of what I do, at least 3 steps in advance, predicting how everyone around me will react and having at least 1 form of justification for every action I take that anyone is likely to notice.
Blender to Collada to Assimp - Rigid (Non-skinned) Animation
I wanted to flag this as off-topic for migration to another site but the only option is to move it to meta.gamedev.stackexchange.com. I flagged it as "other" instead, but it seems like more options (at least the common ones) should be...
I've also mastered the art of being part of a circle of people without anyone ever noticing my presence, and part of a conversation without ever saying a word.
lol I used to know a girl who would jump almost every time I did say something. -.-
From a school perspective I'm in the same boat as @ShotgunNinja - except its not that my parents screwed me out of money. It just worked out that my dad made just enough for me to not qualify for anything while needing to support four kids. On the plus side I do get the warm fuzzy feeling of paying for my crazy expensive degree all by myself, etc.
Nah. I have one of those software developer salaries @Byte56 was talking about. While I'm still going to take forever to pay off my loans I'm 25 and doing quite well for myself.
