@Scortchi-ReinstateMonica I have neither upvoted and nor downvoted, for the reason of the presence of those talking points and finally not understanding the point of the post. Kudos to those who could understand that post and upvoted it. Although if it is due to those fringe conspiracy elements, I would be bit worried about the community. Anyway, that whole nonsense wasn't warranted. There have been measured responses from Nick Cox, you and Robert and I appreciate those.

Philosophically, direct confrontation of incorrect or unconvincing views with evidence or counter-argument is essential. Psychologically and politically, it is often ineffective, as I guess we all know. Editing out irrelevant content from the answer concerned would just be seen as evidence of the suppression of heterodox views that is being complained about, to phrase the matter as neutrally as I can.

(ctd) I can't throw light on what is being asserted about SE, but it seems much more likely that posts containing views irrelevant to some question were downvoted or deleted on some site other than CV because of their irrelevance, which is close to what is happening on Meta.

@Scortchi-ReinstateMonica I don't think people would ask the questions we get here at a math site, even in a statistics tag. If at all, I believe we would indeed need a dedicated statistics site at Codidact.

@StephanKolassa Of course: I meant if someone wanted to get a feel for how Codidact is beforehand, participating in their Maths site might be a good idea

@StephanKolassa agreed, e.g. I would find questions about survey methodology, research-design, or simulation a bit off on a site about maths (or at least that wouldn't be the first place I'd think of to ask this kind of question), while generally I would generally find it natural to have them on a site about stats.
