Q: Filming of Game Shows with Live Audiences

cdeMost Game Shows are filmed with live audiences. A popular and long running example is Family Feud, another is Who wants to be A millionaire, and a recent one is The Chase. Some of these shows embrace the live bit when the host or contestant mess up, so they include the blooper in the episode. All...

Just asking out of curiosity
@AnkitSharma Yeah, whenever I join a new SE I do to make sure the question I want to ask is considered on-topic. Why?
@DrRDizzle i am talking example question
@AnkitSharma Yeah. It makes me laugh the first Man of Steel question that people will see on the site can only be answered as "poor writing".
As expected, you hate it :D
I think during beta time it was a different question, i didn't know who they pick example question

Q: How come Kalkeya Chief knew about what Bijjaladeva said a day before war

Abhishek AgrawalIn Baahubali:The Beginning, During war, Kalkeya chief asks Shivagami, "You will declare King whoever kills me". This quote was said by Bijjaladeva a day before the war. My question is, how Kalkeya Chief knew about this? His spy Saket was arrested already.

Q: Movie - Historic - Drama - Love - 2000/2010

ChloéI remember seeing a movie with my mother at the cinema, probably between 2000 and 2010. It was a long movie, kind of classic, drama romance. A love story between a white woman and an asian man, I would say it takes place in a colonial environment. Maybe the asian was some kind of a rich man or pr...

Happiness: The feeling you get after missing a night of sleep because you ran out of your sleeping pills, then find out the next morning that the script is ready for refill, so you won't be going 72 hours without sleep.
Oh my, you Americans and your meds. I never need a pill to sleep.
@NapoleonWilson Are you not American?
@DrRDizzle No.
@NapoleonWilson Huh, I thought you were.
I never needed a pill to sleep until I did. Now, if I have no pills, I will be up for 60ish hours before my brain realizes it needs to rest so I don't die.
15:41
@CapyStenchbeast Why did you start needing them? Sounds to me (and as a Doctor, I'm obviously qualified to say this) that you'd be better off without them.
@DrRDizzle Because the thing I just said.
Dysthymia does that.
@CapyStenchbeast Ah dude, that sucks.
I got sick of being awake for so long I hallucinate and throw up, so I got sleeping pills.
My record is between 72-96 hours straight. It gets ugly, weird, and painful.
@CapyStenchbeast Wow, that's actually somewhat impressive. I think my record of staying awake is around about 5 hours.
Anyway, nap time.
15:47
@CapyStenchbeast Does everything really get as trippy as I've heard?
Not trippy. I've tripped. Nothing like that. Weird, minor hallucinations - seeing movement that isn't happening. Physical illness, nausea, eye and nose watering, numbness in extremities, emotional extremes (I've cried at comedies after 3 days with no sleep), loss of appetite, etc.

Capy StenchbeastThe movies: Man of Steel Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I Iron Man 2 Captain America: The First Avenger The posters: The portion of each poster used in your image: I had a hard time with the Iron Man 2 poster because whoever made the image you posted flipped the picture right to ...

@CapyStenchbeast I can't say I know even slightly what any of that is like. When I'm tired, I can't help but fall asleep, sometimes without even knowing - I remember watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure a while back and wondering why nothing was making sense, until I realised that I'd been drifting in and out of sleep over the course of two episodes.
How the hell did I get 3 dvs on this?
There is no chance whatsoever that I am wrong, or that any answer could have better resolved the question.
@CapyStenchbeast "If you love church and enjoy movies, then this series has just what you’re looking for. For four weeks starting on November 7/8, Pastor Jeremy will unpack biblical truths from some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters. Invite a friend, kick back with some free popcorn and join us for this one-of-a kind experience." - what. the. hell.
@CapyStenchbeast I can see the religious undertones of Man of Steel, but the rest is so strange.
@DrRDizzle inorite
15:58
@CapyStenchbeast I'd attend that just to see a religious person talk about films really. I'm not at all religious, but I can't imagine that being anything less that a fascinating time.
@DrRDizzle Not really undertones.
@CapyStenchbeast Zac Snyder would make a film student blush with how overt some of his shots are.
I'm sure you can interpret religion into pretty much anything. But I agree that it's most prevalent in Man of Steel out of those 4.
I really need to rewatch Man of Steel again actually, at some point before Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is released.
@DrRDizzle Which...I assume...is supposed to be...a bad thing?
16:02
@NapoleonWilson Well Superman has always been something of a Christ figure.
@DrRDizzle Sure.
@NapoleonWilson It's a tad heavy handed.
@NapoleonWilson That depends if you enjoy subtlety or not I guess.
16:05
And also the immigrant par excellence. I remember part of my final school exams in English was an essay about Superman as a symbol for the positive contribution of immigrants to the American culture and society, both in-universe through himself and out-of-universe as the cretion of two sons of Jewish immigrants.
@NapoleonWilson nerrrrrrrrrdddddddd.
@NapoleonWilson I joke, I know exactly what you are on about. I read a comment on Birth.Movies.Death once about how Superman actually worked better as a reflection of the Jewish faith than he did Christ.
@DrRDizzle "I joke" - Of course you do, you have a friggin' Captain America shield as avatar.
2
@NapoleonWilson It's to defend me from your harsh comments.
@NapoleonWilson It doesn't work. sob
The resemblance between the last two pictures I posted is ridiculous.
Unfortunately I never had success in finding my school exam tasks on the internet, they're unecessarily secretive about those things just to be able to make the poor students pay for those things.

The Machinist is a 2004 English-language Spanish psychological thriller film directed by Brad Anderson and written by Scott Kosar. The film stars Christian Bale, with Jennifer Jason Leigh, John Sharian, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, and Michael Ironside in supporting roles. The film is about Trevor Reznik (Bale), a machinist whose insomnia and psychological problems lead to a serious workplace accident involving a co-worker (Ironside). After Reznik is fired, he goes into downward spiral of paranoia and delusion. The film was well-received by critics, particularly Bale's strong performance. == PlotEdit... ==

But hey, I grasp the chance for spamming haikus when I see it
A crossing to pass.
A decision to forget.
A self to return.
@NapoleonWilson What the hell is a Haiku? I see them all the time, but I don't know what makes a haiku a haiku. Is it just a short, three line poem?
@CapyStenchbeast Indeed, removing the 10 pixels of space between them makes this really apparent. ;-P
@DrRDizzle Nearly
@DrRDizzle 5 7 5

@CapyStenchbeast No, no and no, that's a total myth coming from a too strict but inherently inappropriate translation of Japanese phonetics to English syllables!
@NapoleonWilson Literally every haiku I have seen follows that pattern.
@CapyStenchbeast As always, ask SE:
16:21
And it is a bit annoying to keep getting "donked" every time you edit a message to me.

Q: Does a Haiku needs to have exactly 17 syllables?

Eduard FlorinescuHaving 17 syllables is in the definition of Haiku, but does it have to have exactly 17 syllables, is this usually followed strictly, or it is only more as a guideline? I am asking about Haiku written in English language not in Japanese.

haikus's are boring , better bring owls back
Or some hybrid animals
@CapyStenchbeast Then you haven't seen enough, obviously.
I made myself laugh.

Because that's what happens when you don't hammer down every nail.
16:53

@CapyStenchbeast Well, I assume they were just lucky enough that noone who'd flag this crap was ever in that room. And I guess calling newcomers trolls is a good mechanism to keep it that way.
I hope to god the CMs are going to have a talk with the mods and room owners who said/defended the comments.
But fortunately they've switched the topic and so might we want to.
An ISIS comparison was just made. Change the subject indeed.
@CapyStenchbeast I should hope so... The chat rooms are supposed to be a place people can find welcoming if they have a question that doesn't necessarily fit on the site or the meta... and that sort of talk doesn't seem appropriate.
16:56
I suppose it's out of line to mention that English has French roots and German word immigrants?
Were you guys flagging their stuff?
I didn't. I learned my lesson. I subtly hinted that @NapoleonWilson and @AnkitSharma might want to calm things down.
@Axelrod i don't use chat flags
@AnkitSharma Me neither. At least, until such a point as someone posts something illegal.
Which hasn't happened yet!

A: Why did our primary chatroom get nuked?

Shog9A problem has been festering in SFF's chatroom for some time now. And in spite of the best efforts of your moderators and room owners, it doesn't seem to be going away. I've observed the activity in SFF chat for some time now, and I've come to believe that the problem boils down to a fundamental ...

@AnkitSharma I'd argue that we didn't have a reason to flag in the SFF rooms I was in, but that might be viewed as offensive by someone who just watches chat and never posts.
(See what happened there?)
I'm a little disappointed in terdon. I like him.
Well, it all has many sides. I agree on the point that the messages were inappropriate and deserved to be flagged, neither was the reaction to the flags and the "outside" visitors appropriate. But it's also disheartening when you are used to making borderline jokes in your little comfortable community and suddenly all hell breaks loose when the "wrong" people read them. And I'm sure many SciFi regulars can understand that reaction, too. I'll simply watch that from afar now.
17:15
If the flag wasn't from the receiver of the supposed insult, why should it matter?
We are literally on the precipice of referring to people by gender pronouns being seen as offensive.
Ugh. It's not worth arguing with them. They're so wrapped up in being "right" that they don't care that their jokes are inappropriate, context or not.
@Axelrod So it's cool to use the n word when no black people are around? Um, no.
@CapyStenchbeast This is more like two black people using the n word with each other. Which I disagree with, but it's pretty much a cultural standard.

Class?
Ana explained this to me explicitly: Don't say things in chat that a new user has to understand the background of in order to not be offended. Assume that new people will walk in, see your comment, and judge the site based upon it.
@CapyStenchbeast she also said that "thats what she said" jokes are grossly inappropriate >.<
@Himarm Inappropriate language or attention. Avoid vulgar terms and anything sexually suggestive.
Site policy.
it was an extreme stretch of site policy, but whatever i got my 6 hour suspension and moved on, mostly.
17:29
Mostly? I'm out for a week and I'm already totally over it.
@Himarm "mostly" - ;-)
imo if you have to conjure up the sexual situation in your own head, its not sexually suggestive
@Himarm Conjuring it in your head is why it's called "suggestive".
"i have never done this for anyone before" "thats what she said"
if your thinking about sex
thats on you
Just realized that @ArtofCode is technically considered a troll in ELU, because I got the Michael Jackson popcorn gif from him when he came into Mos during a flagfest, and posting that apparently made me a troll.

@NapoleonWilson Orange raven then
Or yellow....purple?
17:39
Is that even a raven? Looks weird.
Raven is a fictional comic book superheroine who appears in comics published by DC Comics. The character first appeared in a special insert in DC Comics Presents #26 (October 1980), and was created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez. Raven is an empath who can teleport and control her "soul-self," which can fight physically, as well as act as Raven's eyes and ears away from her physical body. == Fictional character biographyEdit == === First life of RavenEdit === Raven is the half-human and half-demon daughter of an Azarathian human mother named Arella and the interdimension...
In teen titan , her emotion appeared with different colour version of herself
Oh, so what was orange then? Perfect happiness, I assume?
Laziness.
Let me check
Somebody gona hurt by this colour interpretation
As per my knowledge orange is always interpreted positive. Its even part of our national flag.
@AnkitSharma Oh, well, half of it seems perfectly on the mark. (The other half maybe sometimes, especially according to other people.)
17:47
@AnkitSharma What nation is this?

Q: What is the Music Playing Behind Monty Python's Spanish Inquisition Closing Credits?

ESOProAt 1:28 in the included video, our Spanish Inquisition heroes rush to catch the bus to the studio. Hurried chase music plays in the background as the credits roll. What is the name/composer of that music?

@AnkitSharma There's a ton of cultural difference there.
If you make a chart of what the primary colors are associated with in India, I'd like to compile it with a Western chart.
India Vs America, for example.
Like the Man Vs Woman chart.
lol
Saffron - renunciation or disinterestedness.
White - light, the path of truth to guide our conduct.
Green - soil, our relation to the plant life here, on which all other life depends.

Ashoka Chakra" in the centre of the white is the wheel of the law of dharma.
Time to cook food.......its 11:27 P.M.
@NapoleonWilson Orange Raven is lazy, slovenly, stupid, and crass.
@AnkitSharma Don't say that in Catholic areas of Northern Ireland.
18:00
Why 11:27 pm?
Also, I meant all primary colors hah.
@CapyStenchbeast Well, as said, half of that fits to me.
@CapyStenchbeast whats there interpretation
@Axelrod I don't know. It might change religion-wise
@Axelrod why not?
@AnkitSharma In Northern Ireland, Green = Republican/Nationalist/Catholic; Orange = Loyalist/Unionist/Protestant.
@CapyStenchbeast ohhhh
How the hell do I have 4 dvs on my movie poster answer?
18:04
@AnkitSharma I was just wondering if there was some sort of an event where cooking so late was necessary.
I don't normally mind dvs, but this is a solid answer.
@CapyStenchbeast Because reasons.
@Axelrod I love orange and i am lazy.......enough said
@CapyStenchbeast Maybe people blame you for answering a crap question? Also, you can't count.
@CapyStenchbeast there is only 2 and you answered a bad question

@AnkitSharma I see what you did there.
@NapoleonWilson Then my rep log shows them each twice
I might even going to clean my house at 1:00 A.M. or before.
Oh, wait - it shows two accepts as well, which should have tipped me off.
@CapyStenchbeast No, it doesn't:
@NapoleonWilson I shall never understand the strange ways of your people. That would be a very valid question on SF&F
@NapoleonWilson Yes, it does.
18:09
@NapoleonWilson this guy surely attract haters
@CapyStenchbeast Then your view is broken.
@AnkitSharma Why? I only see upvotes and that Matrix answer isn't good at all.
@NapoleonWilson hmmmm fair enough
@CapyStenchbeast Well, I think it's clear that those are inherently different sites with inherently different approaches to questions and answers. We're simply not that fond of "found pic in web, what movie is?" questions here.
@NapoleonWilson The question might get dvs on SF&F, but a good answer wouldn't.
18:12
@Tyco Brahe or of "_ and Gabe" fame?
@NapoleonWilson Neither way is better or worse, just interesting to see the differences.
@CapyStenchbeast Oh, I didn't say downvoting your answer was good or is what's normal here. Afterall that thing has 11 upvotes to make up for it anyway.
@CapyStenchbeast And you were referring to the question in the message that this message was a reply to anyway.

Q: What are the names of all the sci-fi vessels in this artwork?

Rogue Jedi This artwork is described as featuring "over 120 locations, vessels, and characters." The locations are labeled and there are only a few characters, so that leaves the vessels. Many I recognize (see below), however, there are many that I don't recognize. So I ask for you guys' help. Vessels ...

This was a nightmare, but it did well.
@CapyStenchbeast How do community wiki answers work?
Also, I thought we figured out a few of those.
@Axelrod Anyone can edit, no one gets rep.
I opened the answer, filled in what I could, and made it CW so people who know more about the genre could help.
18:21
So no rep for you?
Nope.
I didn't deserve it.
It was a community collaboration.
@CapyStenchbeast That being said, I'm personally not a big fan of the popcorn meme either, no matter who eats it. Since it isn't great when you indulge into a serious discussion and try to keep things civil and then somebody uninvolved comes around and posts a pic that practically ridicules those efforts by saying "great, those guys're gonna fight right now and I'm eager to watch it", which is anything but deescalating. But that may be just me (and we know that I distate any fun and games).
@NapoleonWilson That's worrisome. Do you also enjoy bitter foods and drinks? checks the sociopath checklist
@Axelrod Sure, who doesn't?
18:33
I feel like @NapoleonWilson isn't a fan of anything but orange and ravens.
Orange should be on the list if it isn't, and we all know about ravens.
@NapoleonWilson The civility ship had sailed before MJ appeared.
That aside, I'm sure he'll come out of the color closet and tell us all his favorite color is really forest green or something.
Granted, I was only speaking generally, since we had such an incident here some time ago.
18:35
And if anything, in my experience, it actually gets whoever is arguing to giggle a bit most of the time, and it's hard to fight when you're giggling.
#OrangeRavenRules
I like white raven most.
But she only shows up for a few minutes. It sucks.
Even red is better ten white :P
I am angry and lazy....so Red and orange
I do dig red's Trigonesque ways. And any time she goes all demonic, really.
Red is the new evil, as you can't chose racist colours
18:40
@AnkitSharma Red is the old evil in the West.
And what's racist?
I don't know why but american made my favorite colour evil :(
Like... black raven?
In start it was white - good , black - bad
@AnkitSharma Association with fire, which has been conflated with the Devil due to the Devil being sent to the lake of fire in Christian end of days lore.
Due to racism , its changed to blue and red
18:42
Also, blood.
Blood is good
You can't be alive without it
I mean, in western civilization Kali is an evil god.
There's no balance to tie destruction to.
@Axelrod When did Kali became western deity ??
@AnkitSharma I'm saying that's the Western interpretation of Kali.
We literally based several depictions of the Devil on her appearance early in.
They are wrong in interpretation
She is goddess of Time, Change, Power, Creation, Preservation, and Destruction
Mostly destruction but only destruction of evil
18:44
@AnkitSharma And I'm saying that's because Western civilization doesn't have a balance to tie the destruction to. So destruction, and slaughter (IE sacrifice) is viewed in a negative light.
Which is really weird considering our major religion was based on Judaism. And we all know what God in the Torah is like.
@Axelrod i don't know about that
@Axelrod Shiva is also associated with destruction. And surrounded by Gaṇa ( kind of semi ghosts )
@AnkitSharma The Jewish God, Yahweh, is multifaceted. He is righteous and caring, but also quick to anger and merciless at times. He accepted animal sacrifice and ordered the complete slaughter of a cultural subgroup for the Israelites to secure their promised land.
I know sacrifice was once part of Hinduism but i think in the middle, there was things before it and after it
@Axelrod All religion have there edges.
18:50
@Axelrod I liked his depiction as a little angry kid in the recent Ridley Scott film, quite unusual and interesting.
@CapyStenchbeast Might have been from before I was mod. Or just after, perhaps.
My highly downvoted answer is also on religion (Hinduism on sensitive topic). Religious people get offended very soon. Still it have 26 upvote and 7 downvote
@AnkitSharma I like it when the edges aren't part of the religion proper, just the followers. I love that we've moved toward "God is love", in Christianity, when we started off with "God loves us, but woe be upon you if you cross him"
@ArtOfCode Or last week.
:)
@CapyStenchbeast Last week? Really?
Why do I not remember this?
18:52
@NapoleonWilson What movie was that?
@ArtOfCode I could be wrong.
@CapyStenchbeast If it was, I blame it on having a bad day. Last week was not a fun week.
Exodus: Gods and Kings is a 2014 biblical epic film directed by Ridley Scott. It was produced by Peter Chernin, Ridley Scott, Jenno Topping, Michael Schaefer and Mark Huffam with music by Alberto Iglesias and written by Adam Cooper, Bill Collage, Jeffrey Caine and Steven Zaillian. The film stars Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, John Turturro, Aaron Paul, Ben Mendelsohn, María Valverde, Sigourney Weaver, Ghassan Massoud, Golshifteh Farahani and Ben Kingsley. It is a loose interpretation of the biblical episode of the exodus of the Hebrews from Egypt as led by Moses and related in the Book of Exodus...
@ArtOfCode The incident that killed Mos is the one I'm thinking of.
@CapyStenchbeast Aye, I'm wondering when I posted it. The ME incident was last week, yeah.
18:55
@ArtOfCode And continues to this day.
@Axelrod ME's open again now.
Waiting for the flag for describing an ozzie osbourne concert.
@Axelrod There better not be. Shog won't be happy with the flagger.
I feel like Shog has never been happy with anyone/anything.
:)
I had never seen mods flee in terror until the day Richard got flagged and Shog came in.
Oh, Shog's perfectly fine most of the time. You just really don't want to annoy him.
@CapyStenchbeast You do realise we were all joking?
18:58
@ArtOfCode The response was "OH GOD"
@CapyStenchbeast In jest, yeah...
@ArtOfCode I excel at that. Hence my current situation.
Shog's nice to us :)
@ArtOfCode I know, but it's funnier my way.
@CapyStenchbeast Heh. That doesn't help.
18:59
I actually like the guy.
@ArtOfCode No more joking for you.
@ArtOfCode us too
He has a temper, but he's also funny as hell.
@CapyStenchbeast Mods fleeing in terror is amusing. I just can't officially admit it happened, or our credibility will be destroyed.
