I have a small web-project. I want to daily backup the database. Ideally I'd use a master-slave architecture but the budget is not there. So I need to stick to mysqldump. What would the estimated time to backup a database with mysqldump if the database would never contain more than 1.000.000 records with all tables combined?

15 seconds? 15 minutes? 15 hours? Who knows (owls, I guess). May be you could try on your hardware, with your data, and see?

I did have to take public transport - anything filthier, I can't imagine. Full of scumbags not wearing masks. Lost patience one time and said I'd give a mask to a woman who didn't have one. Anyone have a good source for generating data that is biased? Like I have a histogram of birth years that is anonymized from a hospital's data. Now I want to generate a set of 50k patients, and I want the distribution of birth years to be roughly similar. i.e. if 5% of their patients were born in 1964, and 4% in 1965, but only 1% in 1966, I want that to be reflected in the birth dates I apply to the patients I create.

I would be doing this in T-SQL. I was thinking I can generate a random number for each patient, but then I would have to see which percentile it falls into in the histogram and then assign it that year? Wasn't sure there was an example of that already somewhere.

I guess I can just add a start and end number column for each birth year and then join where the random number falls in the range.
