Because it is related to file copy and where postgres files are located.

ie. should I create a backup+restore thru postgres command line or could I just move some files from directory X from this source linux to the same directory on another (target) linux

What I want to say it is a postgres question but it also related to file location of the database and things surrounding the subject.

The question is fundamentally about best practices transferring data/databases in a specific RDBMS, so it's certainly on-topic here regardless of the mechanics of the method you have your doubts about.

Been quite relaxing! Fun Christmas with the kids, didn't drive very far, went to Disney on Ice yesterday

That was actually pretty stressful but the girls had a blast, we rented a suite again so we had ~10 kids grinding popcorn and chicken fingers into carpet :-)

it's memories for the kids which, in turn, tend to change your perspective in the long run, i guess. so you stayed local for christmas?

we went to nc ... and watched my in-laws fight like cats and dogs

i poured a few drams and enjoyed the show

Yeah the day after Christmas we went to our favorite Chinese food place, and didn't think about the outlets at all. Once we were in it there was no way around it.
