7:11 PM
...Have you guys ever heard of somebody called "John" but who goes by "Bob?"
In Active Directory/Exchange this guy is "John Butts" but he signs his emails "Bob Butts."

maybe Bob is John's son

@NexTerren That's really unusual both for name and for someone named John to go by Bob.

7:27 PM
maybe he married someone whose last name was Bob. But they didn't want to change it to Butts, and John for some reason didn't want to change his own last name
so they each took each other's last name as their first name
which means Bob Butts is married to John Bob
it's the only explanation that makes sense

@DaaaahWhoosh Naturally.

I have recently been considering how to reform last-name-changing for feminists and gay people
the best system I came up with is that when you get married, you and your spouse come up with a new last name, which you pass on to your kids
it could be one of your names, or a completely new one

Shrugs
When I marry, I'll take her name, or keep my own. I'd rather us share a last name but I don't really care which last name we share.

@NexTerren right, that's what I'm saying, that's the part that counts
so just pick a new name

"Canin DarkLord"

7:36 PM
yeah, think about how much more fun it'd be to wait for your table to be ready

@AndyD273 it takes a turn doesn't it?

Hello again

HOWDY
(almost forgot that there)

oh, @TinyTrEs-2b I almost didn't see you there!

well, it could be my last christmas, so...

7:38 PM
:(

I missed the metacognition discussion :(
@TinyTrEs-2b how's that?

@dot_Sp0T Hey, .0! Just as I was leaving, too.

Also on the offchance: ..last christmas.. I GAVE YOU MY HEART! BUT THE VERY NEXT DAY! YOU GAVE IT AWAY!

The black lung

@NexTerren uh, well, goodbye o/

7:41 PM
@dot_Sp0T that would be more terrifying if taken literally. A heart transplant patient would eats to much fast food

@TinyTrEs-2b blaming myself due to the language barrier here probably, but are you/have you been a coalworker..?

@TinyTrEs-2b so are you dying or not? I'm sorry I always assume seriousness when someone talks about death or especially implies it

naw, just a morbid Christmas themed joke

@TinyTrEs-2b Hi sorry what? Turn right or left?

7:43 PM
@NexTerren I'll go with "Green Stormageddon"

@AndyD273 the Evan video, it takes a turn for the worst
or is it the best?

Well, I assume I am glad now; but honestly I feel sorta empty
I guess I initially felt bad about not feeling bad

@TinyTrEs-2b I'm laughing now, but in a way where I don't want to laugh similarly in the future

@TinyTrEs-2b Ahh, yes. I did not see that coming. Which was the point of the video I guess.

I thought good ol' evan was speaking to a gay guy and then he would lead the gay kid to suicide (what with all the SJW hullabaloo)

7:49 PM
I didn't even really get that vibe. It wouldn't have mattered if it was a guy since there was no romantic cast to the wording. I was kinda thinking it would be a message about opening yourself up to friendship is all.

Which if someone had stood up for the bullied kid maybe it would have.

I feel conflicted on the topic of school shootings, on one hand it is an act of terrorism and mass murder, but on the other, it can easily be prevented with simple common decency.
hey, I need a mollusk (preferably snail) based pun for a new worldbuilding project, like I had for Planet of the Aves

@TinyTrEs-2b Yeah. Kids can be little monsters. Monsters breeding monsters.

hmmmmmm breeeddiiiing...

I kinda wonder if having some kind of periodic screening requirement might not be a bad idea along with a yearly checkup.
A mental health screening

would that work on kids, though?
I mean, most of them are probably one crazy or another
and then you get into the territory of what to do if you do think they have mental problems

7:55 PM
Dunno. If you watch the video the kid is putting up all kinds of warnings on social media. All it would take is someone with the right mindset seeing it and saying "Hey, we should talk to this one, see what's going on under the hood"

yeah, there is seemingly no difference between safely insane (like me) or murderously insane

I should probably watch this video

Well, if you were talking about (or hearing voices telling you) to murder kittens (or people) then that's something to look for.

For example, I am morbid, a pessimist, often an asshole, a poor loser, a crappy winner and often make jokes about shootings or murder, but I would never commit any crime. Maybe it's human decency, maybe it's because in jail I would be handed around like currency
who knows
@DaaaahWhoosh there it is, though I feel the twist is ruined for you

@TinyTrEs-2b Who knows though. Maybe talking to a professional would help you iron out a few of the larger flaws.
You seem ok on here. Maybe you'd be hard to be around in person. Dunno.

7:59 PM
I don't see them as flaws so much as character traits, keep in mind I am one of few people who understand I am all of the above but know when to dial it down

@TinyTrEs-2b nope, I was so confused

oh I'm soft, I have arms like lettuce

I feel offended that apparently people who like guns and spend their time alone are planning to kill people

@TinyTrEs-2b Matter of perspective. Knowing when to dial back is probably key, and that is something that a professional might be able to help someone like you that can't do that.

Ooooo I just found out something cool, 50 deaf kids were put in school together, but didn't know sign language, so they invented their own sign language
Nicaraguan Sign Language (ISN; Spanish: Idioma de Señas de Nicaragua) is a sign language largely spontaneously developed by deaf children in a number of schools in western Nicaragua in the 1970s and 1980s. It is of particular interest to the linguists who study it, because it offers a unique opportunity to study what they believe to be the birth of a new language. == History == Before the 1970s, there was no deaf community in Nicaragua. Deaf people were largely isolated from each other and mostly used simple home sign systems and gesture ('mímicas') to communicate with their families and friends...
@AndyD273 agreed, I feel that traits do not make a person, but the way a person handles those traits defines them.

8:02 PM
@DaaaahWhoosh I think the point was that maybe someone should have taken the time to see what was going on, instead of assuming he was all ok. If they talked to him and found that he really was fine, no harm done (if it's handled properly)

@Green Nice choice.

@AndyD273 eh, yeah I guess. I should remember to stop getting offended by things

@DaaaahWhoosh remember, get offended too often and you'll look like an SJW

@DaaaahWhoosh It's rarely worth it, and it dilutes the times when it really is worth it. Look at the responses the SJW's get, to the point they are a punchline.

and that is a fate worse than death or certain kinds of torture
hey, completely unrelated, but while you all are here, I need a mollusk (preferably snail) based pun for a new world in my worldbuilding project, like I had for Planet of the Aves

8:07 PM
@TinyTrEs-2b Elon Mollusk?
@TinyTrEs-2b Wait. Hm.

I used up about a month's supply of puns for 'Thee-oughta-see'
oooh, what about "Squid-gard"

@DaaaahWhoosh I mean. Squid. Snails.
"Snails of the Crypt?"

@NexTerren mollusks

@DaaaahWhoosh Preferably snail.

in that case, I call dibs on squid-gard

8:15 PM
@TinyTrEs-2b Escargard

I actually have a species of squid-like aliens in my sci-fi galaxy, I'm gonna call their home planet Squidgard now

Yes, oh glarnak yes!
you take squidgard, escargard is way better :D

Snailed it
3

@AndyD273 I am forever in your debt
I have not truly lived until this day

:D That is a high honor coming from you

8:27 PM
I go!!

@NexTerren I think I might just go by "Stormy" for short.
@NexTerren, what is it that you like about PyCharm over other Python IDEs?

9:29 PM
You know I don't normally read back when I am out of chat for a while cause clearly nothing of importance happens while I am gone...
but I just did and you people are Special

@James I'm amazed that after all the time spent here in WB chat, you have any iota of an expectation that we aren't Special.

@Green ...the butts conversation was ridiculous. Clearly John goes by bob because his middle name is Robert. Duh.
@TinyTrEs-2b Took you long enough.

@James Is the butts part the only reason for the Special? Cause I wasn't around for that conversation...

9:49 PM
@AndyD273 Sort of...I started there...read that far and skipped the rest because I figured my time would be better used making fun of people.

@James Probably accurate

Plus I like making fun of people. Its how I show love.

So, about 2 hours to go, and I'm only down 5 points from 200... Wonder if I can get one more good answer in...

Are you all feeling my love

@James I feeling something, but the right word just doesn't come to mind.

9:52 PM
@HDE226868 :D But see you're feeling something and that's how we know we're alive.
...screw robots
@AndyD273 You should be good now

Cool thanks!
Two 200 days in a row...

After reading through as much as I have to of this to feel that I've done my modly duty . . . I've decided that anything toilet-related is now off-topic.
@AndyD273 Nice! I've done that . . . maybe twice in two years. :P

@HDE226868 But alien toilet design could be very important to a second race of aliens that look like the first alien's toilets.

The site seems go in cycles. I got a bunch of points and new answers on a question that I picked an answer for over a year ago... Strange

@AndyD273 The universal translator one? I linked to that here, which was later closed as a duplicate of your question.

10:06 PM
@HDE226868 I love when that happens
(that is, new answers linking to old ones)
((not the fact that the new questions are inferior to one's own))
(((though there is some satisfaction in finding the question that a new question is a duplicate of)))
((((and in using a lot of parentheses)))))

@Green Well my comment was over specifically Visual Studio. VS is great... for C#, it's just not tweaked well for Python. JetBrains makes... well, ReSharper, and I've learned to love their tools and keyboard shortcuts. PyCharm has a lot of overlap there (made by the same folks as it is). I'm honestly not Python IDE loyal, just feel that PyCharm is better for Python than VS.

@NexTerren Ah, okay. I'm looking into buying the IDE pack from Jetbrains and was looking for some opinions.

@DaaaahWhoosh Yeah, it's nice to see older questions getting some recognition again.
Do I really have to edit and answer 500 questions to get the Illuminator badge? Wow, that's going to take a while.
Only 8 more years, though, at my current pace.

10:29 PM
@Green PyCharm used to have a free version that you could try.

@NexTerren They still do, it's just time limited. Pretty sure they do.
