Is there a general average for how many times greater than a "dose" an "overdose" usually is?

@JasonClyde It probably depends on the drug. And what you consider a "dose".

12:32 AM
@Gryphon So basically there's not much of a hard rule and I can reasonably set it at whatever I want for my fantasy drug without too many raised eyebrows?

@JasonClyde I wouldn't raise my eyebrows. Heck, it's a magic drug. If you say it's impossible to overdose, I'd just go "OK, that's how the magic drug works".
On the other hand, if you say "a few extra milliliters and you're dead in seconds", I'll go "OK, that's how the magic drug works". It's up to you.

Fair enough. This first one is the relatively harmless one anyway.
The equivalent of pot, which I think if I heard correctly is physically impossible to overdose on?
@Gryphon It doesn't do what pot does, to be clear, but I mean in terms of danger, this is a pretty low level one.

@JasonClyde I've heard it's rather difficult, at any rate (I mean, if you inject yourself with enough THC, you'll probably die, but it'd be difficult to do by smoking).
But yeah, I don't think anyone will go "wait, that's not right" about something like that. If you don't bring up overdoses, very few people will even think about them at all.

Alright.

Q: Stack Overflow is doing me ongoing harm; it's time to fix it!

Monica CellioOver the last month, Stack Overflow Inc. has violated its own policies and precedents to cause egregious and unnecessary harm to me -- to my reputation (personal and professional), to my health, and to my safety. This harm is significant and ongoing. It is past time for the company to correct ...

Oh lovely. They deleted the FAQ for the CoC changes.
I'd wanted to get the picture of that when it hit -2000 to replace my current, rather lame, -1234.

Oh so that's what that was a reference to!

@JasonClyde Actually, it's from this.
Which is now at -1962, so I should probably start getting ready to get the screenshot.

1:14 AM
This is honestly really disappointing that all this went down

@JasonClyde Yep. And Monica is probably going to have to deal with it for the rest of her life, and absolutely none of it is her fault.

I wonder what goes through the head of a company when basically their entire fanbase/userbase is solidly against them on something?

That's a good question.

@Gryphon yeah, there's a question about that deletion. Shog's answer is basically that it was a big pile of noise after the updates.
@JasonClyde probably "yeah there's a lot of noise, but those whiners are only a tiny fraction of our users so...bye!".

It's very odd how many high-level business people don't understand Poisson distributions. They're quite fundamental to, well, everything that involves people doing things.
Essentially, in any group of people, the square root of the number of people do half the work.
So you should probably listen to those people when they all yell at you that you're wrong.

1:23 AM
Yup. Just look at users ordered by rep on most sites; there are huge clusters at 1 and 101, which represents visitors. The builders are a smaller clump.
Meta rep-capped an hour and a quarter into the day. Figured. :-)
(I mean, I was hoping that question would get off to a good start, but one never knows whether the haters are going to get to it first.)

@MonicaCellio I don't think there are that many haters (in the community at least). Pretty much everybody I've seen is on your side. There are a couple of mods against you, but the vast majority of people who have interacted with you are on your side.
Which itself is a testament to your character.

@Gryphon that's the impression I've been getting.
@Gryphon thanks.
If anybody's got Twitter reach, here's the tweet.

2:06 AM
@MonicaCellio I just know you from that one vlog thing we did a few years ago and my observations in chat. I'm with you.

@Green thanks. I remember you from that and also from general site activity. BTW, my question has attracted a rude personal attack as an answer but flags are being declined. Anybody who wants to weigh in on that, take a look...

@MonicaCellio I've flagged it as well, but it'll probably just get declined like the others.
Hmm, flag still pending. At least it wasn't instadeclined.

@Gryphon probably, but maybe if they see enough flags...

Q: what reality check suppose to be?

Li JunI don't know much about the tags or rules in Meta, since I usually just briefly lurk, so I'd appreciate it if someone can fix the tags to be more appropriate and I apologise if I've broken any rules here. i want to ask what reality check really supposed to mean ? recently i though reality check...

It's particularly absurd that you're being accused of hijacking Meta. You've barely posted there at all since everything went down.

Q: How is this an answer?

overlordI have flagged this answer as spam the first time, which was declined. Then I realized, "Oh yeah true, I guess it's not really spam per say." So then I flagged it as "not an answer", but the flag was disputed. Is a jet dragon possible? The answer is just a story! It by no means answers the que...

@MonicaCellio Just for the record, I still support you, but I have given up keeping up with Meta/TL/the Drama in general. Though if you need a hand or defender anywhere, let me know.

4:38 PM
@Ranger I need some ideas for a combat scenario for next week...

4:50 PM
I wonder if there is a way to do something like The Flood in DND...

@AndyD273 Are we talking Noah?

Halo

no idea

basically it starts with a couple really weak enemies that you don't even have to shoot, because they die when they hit your shield. and then it turns in to thousand of the things and they will kill you fast if enough of them reach you
and they mutate and zombify other creatures, half-life 2 head crab style.

...weird.
but neat
The party in my campaign is heading to a new region where mounted combat is a big deal...trying to figure out what to do with all that.

5:04 PM
@James have them face roving bands of centaurs?
Oh, and when enough of the Flood cells/units fuse together they turn into a Gravemind, which coordinates all of the smaller forms, so they go from mindless chasing/strategy to intelligent tactical combat.

5:17 PM
@AndyD273 Sup?

@JasonClyde Not much. Just dipping into halo lore and staying awake

@AndyD273 Well mine will be guys on horses. but same difference
I am thinking mounted archers would be super annoying for a party on foot.
and later on a heavy cavalry charge...

5:47 PM
@AndyD273 Cool, cool. Not much has been going on with me, and I haven't used the site much lately. Though I do have this one issue I'm debating making a question for.

@JasonClyde I took a week off. probably did some small amount of good... Need any help working out the question?

@AndyD273 Possibly. Main thing is I've been debating methods of using my magic system to introduce a fantasy drug to my story, and while one method seems... unique... it has some issues.
@AndyD273 The
Sorry, pressed enter by mistake while editing.

no worries

@James Absolutely. If you want to have them fight fire with fire you need to annoy them with fire and make them want to use the fire. Big, open spaces, long range weapons, melee weapons with reach... anything else you can puzzle out that puts mounts at an advantage. Do mounts in 5e ignore any types of difficult terrain?

@Ranger No but the place they are heading is predominantly rolling plains and the "boss" for the area is a Mercenary company leader. His name is Gregor. He runs the "Iron Horse Company" who are famed (and expensive) mounted combatants.
I think mounted combat in 5e includes a caveat that if you charge in and then leave the threatened area the person on foot doesn't get an opportunity attack.

5:59 PM
@James Ooooh, a skirmish-style mounted unit with regeneration. Or is that too evil?

@AndyD273 Basically the idea is that the drug would be laced into the bodily fluids of anyone who has the power. Their blood, saliva, etc. But the logistics of actually harvesting the chemical seem absurd and also likely gross, so I'm of 4/5 a mind to scrap that concept.

@Ranger ...I could give them a cleric I suppose.

@JasonClyde could do something like dialysis to extract it. It could even be a beneficial thing for the person producing the drug. Like, it builds up in the system, and eventually leads to toxicity, so it has to be extracted by hooking them up to a filter machine. The downside is that you could have some less ethical people who gather the drug from willing and unwilling donors and then sell it

Hmm. I've heard of dialysis, not sure what it is
Guess I'll have to look into it

Your kidneys are really important for filtering toxins and waste from your blood. If your kidneys fail then that stuff doesn't get filtered, builds up over time, and kills you. Dialysis involves using a machine as an artificial kidney. Every couple days you have to go in, get hooked up to this machine, and let it filter your blood for several hours. It's a way to keep you alive until a kidney donor is matched

6:10 PM
I see.
Thanks!

Or sometimes the kidney can recover, if the strain is removed by the machine for a while
