I want to experiment to find exactly the right percentage of alcohol to achieve lasting "slush" at whatever temperature my freezer is. I'll check, I hope it's right at 0F, I'll try to get it there.
To make the experiment valid, my mixer needs to be sugar-free and salt-free or at least carefully controlled for sugar content. I'll use vodka as the alcohol for the experiment.
I don't want to waste perfectly good vodka though!
Ideally I'd start with vodka and water. I know that 10% is close, so hopefully I'll be able to zero in on a more precise percentage before diluting a bunch of vodka. I don't usually drink screwdrivers, but by adding orange juice concentrate to water diluted vodka, at least the vodka won't go to complete waste.
Then it gets trickier though. I want to control for sugar.
Say I come up with 10.5% alcohol from vodka in water gets perfectly slushy and stays slushy at 0F.
Then I'd want to measure the effect of varying sugar levels. How can I do that without wasting the vodka? And no, unsweetened Kool-aid is not an option.
Remember me saying I think I cracked a tooth on a wasabi pea? Well, it felt better the next day, just a bit more sensitive than usual, so I blew it off. Now here it is, 8:20 pm on a Saturday night, and I just lost almost half my tooth. A big chunk, just gone. Not hugely painful though, thank goodness. I can't even call the VA until the day after tomorrow. I'll go to the ER it gets terribly painful though. Dammit! Why does this kind of thing always happen on the weekend?
@Jolenealaska Ouch! Sorry to hear about your tooth. I hope it didn't give you further trouble. I'll cross my fingers that you get good, painless treatment.
