@rdtsc Yeah Metcal and JBC are the premium brands playing in a league of their own. And they cost accordingly. For a desoldering station it's hard to justify that unless you work with professional assembly.

@tobalt You were saying earlier that you make devices which measure conductivity in metal films. By any chance did you make devices for measuring conductivity of water?
I noticed that cheap conductivity sensors use stainless steel electrodes. These would be two hundred dollar handhelds, or total dissolved solids (TDS) sensors in reverse osmosis filters for drinking water.
Industrial conductivity sensors use platinum electrodes. They cost thousands. Why do they use platinum electrodes instead of gold?
(I’m interested conductivity of water that has biology. More biology than tap water. More like seawater.)

@misk94555 No I haven't been doing such things. I guess Pt electrodes are sturdier than Au as a Au finish can very easily be damaged. And I am not sure about this, but isn't Pt used as some standard in certain potential measurements of aqueous solutions?
