Anyone have any good ideas on how to make some money on the side with EE?

@C.Lange Buy a large stock of NE5532. Scrape the marking on them. Buy a custom stamp with the TI logo and "OPA1612" written on it, and some white paint. Rebrand the chips. Make an offer on ebay for 5$ each. Be sure to put keywords such as "best souding opamp ever - ultra low noise - ultra low distortion - audiophile-grade" in the description. Profit. While you're at it, you can sell some fake capacitors too.

@dim . . and don't forget headphones that work all the way down to DC.
that might even hold up in a court of law.

@dim - I like it. I just watched a video of a guy swapping out op-amps on a bread-boarded guitar pedal. They all sounded so similar to me. I don't get the hype.

An online video? Remember there's heavy compression going on in online video formats.
Not that most audio stuff isn't BS, but the process of putting something online is going to reduce sound quality.

@ThePhoton that's 100% fair. I can't hear what the actual amp sounds like.

It wouldn't shock me, depending on how accurate the op-amp is for a given circuit configuration, that you could hear differences. One difficulty in doing A/B testing like this is that you need to get the volume identical or one will start sounding better just because it's louder.
I had a friend who did a similar thing with different brands of vacuum tubes in an amplifier - he got to the point where he could identify which tube was in the amplifier by sound. His take was that he could hear a difference, but couldn't necessarily say which one was better, and they were minor differences

Q: Are EE design questions off-topic

Aaron Van RossumI was curious if I can ask about how to implement an FSM within a decentralized design with electronic control modules in automotive engineering design. I’m having trouble understanding how an FSM won’t be a “master module.” Is that on topic and/or too broad?
