Q: Is this a propagandistic reading of history to assume that police forces descened from private police used for union busting?

Mark MarcThe early police forces descended from private police used for union busting. The early police forces focused on union busting and harassing immigrant workers ("paddy wagons"). Over time, unions weakened and became less militant and prisons grew. So the prison lobby supports police now. Is this m...

Q: What are the historical origins of the Electrical Engineering expertise that drives Taiwan's electronics industry today?

uhohIn the HSM question Where exactly did George Brown publish the first paper about Turnstile antennas? I lamented that it would likely be hard to find a printed copy of the 1936 volume(s) of a journal called simply Electronics in Taiwan. I said that because I'd expected that there were not a lot o...

@sempaiscuba thank you for that last comment, it is very, very helpful. I think the challenge for me is not moving from one topic to another, it's moving from sites where I'm recognized and people know that when I ask a question there's probably a great answer to be written...
to sites where I'm not recognized and where I suddenly have to write as a new person.
I just wrote some things here and I suppose that's the kind of thing that I should have said explicitly in the question :-)
FWIW, that's been my experience on SE sites as well.
@T.E.D. thanks! I'll have to improve on switching gears
@sempaiscuba I meant to link here

I dunno. I my experience, you just gotta be willing to take your lumps.
Well, that's a bit unfair. There is a certain amount of being willing to adapt to the slightly different culture on a new SE site, even though its interface seems identical.
But when I pop my first question on a new site, I can pretty much count on its topicality getting challenged.
18:45
@uhoh In fairness, even well-established, high-rep users here get challenged from time-to-time when they post a question which appears to be readily answered by Wikipedia, or some other standard resource.
Sometimes, it comes down to different interpretations of the same text. Other times, they just didn't spot the fact that that resource contained the answer they were after.
I think - as a general guide - I would always suggest checking to see if Wikipedia has a page on the subject, and if it doesn't, then say that in the question. If it does, but that page doesn't answer the question then say that.

Sometimes, someone will find the answer in a different Wikipedia page, but that seems to be more acceptable to folks here, since you have shown in the question that you at least did your research, and tried to make sure the question wasn't "too basic", before posting.
Yeah, that's a good point. I guess I should point out that my questions here aren't always well-received either. I've got one that was "deleted by community" after getting downvoted to -1, and at least one other that an upvoted comment said they thought was off-topic before they saw one of the answers.
19:22
@sempaiscuba got it! I'm generally asking questions that don't have W pages, and when they do...
the answers are usually much better than the pages. So I need to remember that when I'm drifting to unfamiliar topics where I'm not well-read, the chances that W contains the answer rises dramatically

Q: Marriage to end Wars

Little HelperI'm getting married on Saturday, and I was reflecting on the history of marriage for my speech. In the olden days, marriage was a way to make peace between nations for royals, and to marry into prosperity for the common people. But after years of these political schemes, it has started to be abou...
