Wouldn't it be more useful for charts and other stuff, if the "quarter", "week", e.t.c. would be used in for "past three months", "past 7 days",... sense? Seems that how it's now most of these date ranges are equal, say currently "month" and "quarter" are exactly the same.
e.g. first week of the year has all four date ranges exactly the same
I think the result was that no one uses anything other than ASCII because they can't guarantee that they'll be able to type their password on someone else's computer.
First off I don't think having "this week", "this month" or "this year" is a good idea; while it's computationally cheaper than the equivalent "last 7 days", "last 30 days", "last 365 days" it becomes kind of useless every Sunday (1st of month (like, uh, today), 1st of year).

It's really silly to worry about your page getting a high number of likes. If they're real, then good for you. If they're fake, then they'll raise the perceived value of your page and will bring more real likes.

Thus, free advertisement for your page (Xander Is The Best) on other popular pages.

@ThomasPornin Blackhats aren't gonna report bugs anyway. Bug bounty programs are targeted at honest researchers who does not want to resort to criminal activities.
@TerryChia Well, that's certainly what is hoped for. But claiming that it actually works that way requires a bit more evidence.
An actual advantage of bug bounty programs is that honest people who find security flaws will be more likely to report them -- not because of the reward, but because they will not have to fear that the vendor thinks of all bug reports as blackmail attempts and calls the cops.
It is unclear whether adding cash to that really induces more bugs to be found and reported.
@ThomasPornin yea but let's say the exploit is worth 2000 dollars and the reward 1500. Chances are the exploiter will prefer to get the 1500 because: it's something he can put on his cv and it doesn't get him into trouble. Obviously it's a tradeoff of risks which will decide if the exploiter would defect from what is legal or not.

@ThomasPornin I wonder if they would call a sock-puppet foul if Little Bear were to give Big Bear all his rep through bounties, as long as they don't both have answers on the same question?
@Adnan I don't think there is a way that isn't already a feature. For example, accepted answer points (the +15) and bounty rewards don't count towards the rep cap. You can therefore exceed it by getting 20 upvotes, plus accepted answers, plus bounties.
As I understand it, Jon Skeet regularly earns over 200 reputation a day doing exactly this.
@ThomasPornin you mean like adding bounty to questions you best answered anyway, then collecting additional rep that would be otherwise lost on the rep cap, plus a bounty in a few days time?
I mean, I even avoid doing reviews with Bear #2, because it would mean that I could approve an edit all by myself -- an edit that I actually have enough rep to do myself without needing any approval.
@AntonyVennard Well, I do understand the rep cap exemptions and I still think there is another way. It probably is indeed a feature, but I think it's an unintended one. It's actually pretty silly, no haxoring or anything.
@ThomasPornin Why would it be? Anyone else could do the same. As long as you don't have questions where both accounts have answered, it's all legitimately-earned rep that belongs to you.

There has been a lot of talk about the daily reputation cap and what counts and what doesn't count and so on. But why is there a cap at all? I've seen lots of questions about whether the cap number should be changed, or whether certain things should or should not apply to the cap, but I've never ...
On a serious note, though, it does encourage quality answers, because you can either hit the rep cap with 20 one vote answers, or 5 four vote ones and so on. The idea is, I guess, to limit somebody from answering everything twice and gaining unlimited amounts of rep in really small amounts.
As previously discussed in Important Reputation Rule Changes, we are now beginning site-wide reputation recalculations on Stack Overflow, Server Fault, and Super User. You may see some changes in your own reputation, along with changes in other users’ reputation.
In addition to rebalancing question upvotes as +5 instead of their old value of +10, we also fixed the following minor bugs in the reputation system:
accepted answers and bounties were only partially immune to the rep cap before depending on the time of day you earned them, but they are fully immune now.
upvotes can now “replace” missing rep lost to downvotes, up to the +200 daily reputation cap. …
Every so often and reputation disappeared. Just search for "rep recalc" on mso...!
If you want to bypass the rep cap by 10 rep: 1- Choose 10 answers that require editing, downvote them, freeing a 10-rep spot. 2- Wait until the next day, edit them. 3- Take back your 10 downvotes, thus earning back 10 rep back.

@RoryAlsop I hate myself.... I read the packet my teacher assigned turns out RSA was in there. On top of that they explain the certificates. Thankfully this wasn't a total waste of time because they explain how RSA actually works very poorly.
