@AviD Essentially. Since @Adi is using only an M.2 for storage, has a fully modular psu, all the extra bells and whistles aren't entirely necessary
Adi
Adi
@l1thal Well, you'd have to excuse him for his FUCKING bad English.
@AviD Plus the graphite cases aren't really all that minimal, they're more machine guns and rocket launchers
@l1thal hahaha
sorry for my fucking bad english
@DavidFreitag not just for overclocking, if you're aiming for a cool'n'quiet, it is still important - or completely sealed and insulated, but I would not recommend.
@DavidFreitag oh yeah. I didnt see the minimal bit.
22:02
@TildalWave sorry for my fucking downvote and vtc
@MarkBuffalo sure OK but that was funny
his English wasn't so bad until he said how bad it was
@DavidFreitag still the carbide looks rather crowded on the inside. is he putting in a fullsize mobo, full gfx, etc?
lack of heatsink is a plus there I guess...
@AviD ATX, 980TI
Adi
Adi
@MarkBuffalo What the hell is vapour chamber?
@Adi I have no freaking clue
Adi
Adi
22:04
Sounds like something you'd find in Amsterdam
or Portland
Okay. So it's a slightly more efficient heat pipe
@Adi:

Awww
geez @David you really enjoy this
Did I forget the link syntax?
@TildalWave like lots
I'll keep it in mind for my next rig
@DavidFreitag me too :>
22:07
Well multiline links aren't a thing I guess.
@DavidFreitag Also, why dvd and not blu-ray?
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Doesn't work with multilines
Oh, you ninja'd it
@MarkBuffalo I wanted neither
@Adi That's what I have selected, now I will attempt to find them from a local(ish) vendor
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Brace yourself for a shock
@DavidFreitag good cpu/mobo combo
22:09
@Adi Oh I'm always read to get zapped ( ͡◉ ͜ ʖ ͡◉)
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Oh I'm not joking, man. You'll see
@Adi Well technically Newegg might deliver to you, but I dunno how much it's gonna cost
I bet there's some sweet places in Germany
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Oh god, no! Absolutely no delivery from outside EU
@Adi Well they have facilities in the UK and in the Netherlands
Adi
Adi
EVGA Z170 FTW: $190 on Newegg -> 260 EUR in Finland
Adi
Adi
Almost all prices of electronics here are about 30-35% more than in the States
Which is funny because you're closer to China
Adi
Adi
Umm
@Adi Like that motherboard is more than 65% more expensive.
That's awful, man. :/
Adi
Adi
@MarkBuffalo Yeah, VAT is 24% + customs charges
22:15
@Adi Have you ever thought of going to buy these in Hong Kong?
The round trip ticket might be cheap, and you could grab all the parts for less than in the states.
Just be careful of all the shanzhai stuff
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag I always thought we weren't. Today I learned
@Adi Really?
Adi
Adi
@MarkBuffalo Once I arrive, I'd have to declare and pay
No escape
oh dear
@Adi So partner up with someone who does a lot of international shipping, and declare it as "vintage computing parts"
Adi
Adi
22:18
@DavidFreitag Still gotta pay that VAT
@Adi Yeah but the VAT is based on the value of the contents correct?
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Yeah. 24%
@Adi So declare a false value
@DavidFreitag Fraud. Huuuuge fraud.
Smuggling charges
Adi
Adi
They take that shit out of the boxes, Google it
22:19
@MarkBuffalo Meh
Adi
Adi
Find prices
@Adi That's fucking hardcore lol
Adi
Adi
Send you a fine
Remind me never to mess with the Finnish
Adi
Adi
Second to the Australian customs, Finnish customs are known to be very veeeeeeeery strict
22:20
God this vertaa site's database is almost as bad as Amazon's
@Adi UAE can be worse
Never let them catch you with even 1 marijuana flake on your clothing
(Not that I smoke pot, I don't; I've just heard some things)
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Trying to order from Newegg
@MarkBuffalo I had that once. Accidentally, but didnt help.
paid a large fine, and extra tax.
@Adi Yup they got some problems goin' on
still came out cheaper than buying locally...
22:22
@AviD Yup, I almost got caught sneaking Dragonfruit into America. I didn't know it was illegal. I got randomly searched, and the guy said if I had gotten through with it, I'd have a $600 fine, per fruit.
Adi
Adi
@David Wanted to try a German shop
Hahahahaha
The next time, I was more careful to get the dragonfruit in.
I ate it first, and crapped out the seeds.
@Adi Damn
Adi
Adi
> Sie haben den besten computeruniverse Preis gefunden!
Yeah.. I don't think I do
@MarkBuffalo There is a very good reason why they don't allow foreign fruits etc into this country
22:24
@DavidFreitag Yeah, I know that now.
I brought back a bunch of these donut things from Hawaii
mmmmh
I'd kill someone for a box of them babies
Adi
Adi
@David Hmm. Not too bad. About 220 EUR scan.co.uk/products/…
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Yeah 761,90
GFX + CPU
That's the whole budget of 1500
:D
22:28
@Adi scan ain't bad for a UK mob, ebuyer.co.uk is the other one I've used (although TBH I mainly just use Amazon now)
@Adi can you use amazon or no amazon at all?
There is www.amazon.de
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Amazon rarely delivers to Finland
I don't know if they ship to Finland, though.
Adi
Adi
Except books
22:29
damn
I suppose we can go with a sandy i7 with a 980 instead of a 980TI and that would knock the price down like $500
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Nah, won't compromise
How many of those SSDs do I want?
@Adi Your motherboard only has 1 M.2 slot, if you want more you will need to get a PCIe adapter card.
However, it's a 256GB SSD
If you need more storage I would recommend getting like a 2TB HDD
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Can I get a 500GB one?
@Adi Sure but it's double the price
Adi
Adi
Yeah, it's cool
22:32
@DavidFreitag M.2 slot is only for birthdays and christmas :(
@DavidFreitag smoke screen
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag About 1600 for GFX CPU Mobo and SSD
I guess in total with the rest it would be around 2000
@Adi dear god
Adi
Adi
I think that's acceptable
22:35
@Adi Well it's still better than 3k...
But the upside is that kit is about the best you can get on the market without going really crazy
Like a quad socket xeon board with four $8000 CPU's
Adi
Adi
Damn
That Scan.co.uk doesn't have that RAM
Any alternatives?
@Adi Yup
Wow I think they only have corsair
Adi
Adi
Oh no.. that's.. umm.. bad?
I wouldn't say bad
Less good
Corsair is still a fantastic manufacturer, it's just gskill is better.
Adi
Adi
How many slots does my mobo have?
Adi
Adi
Can I get 4x 8GB?
Or is 4x 4GB good enough?
@Adi If you want, 32GB will be more though
Adi
Adi
I don't know if I need it
I genuinely have no clue if it's needed
My work laptop has 12
Seems okay
@Adi Well I have 32GB on my machine at home, but that's because I run a lot of ram hungry things like Visual Studio, VMs etc
If, however, you don't do that, 16GB should be more than enough.
Adi
Adi
I can switch one of the 4GB for 8GB later, right?
22:45
@Adi Yup
@Adi You may or may not be able to find the case. That's not a big deal. I would recommend looking for yourself to find something that you like if you can't find the one I picked.
Adi
Adi
Something I like? :O
That's like me recommending to someone to pick a key length they like
Or a password hashing scheme they like
Well, once you find it, link it to me and I will make sure it's going to work for your setup
Adi
Adi
@DavidF Yaaay!
Make sure you wash your hands once you do paste it, that stuff does not agree with your stomach. It will be a violent experience.
Don't worry about buying a tube of paste, the cooler should come with a syringe full.
@DavidFreitag You've... tried this?
22:54
@MarkBuffalo No, I know someone who ordered a pizza while assembling his pc, didn't clean his finger and somehow ingested a small amount of it. It was terrifying
@DavidFreitag the... the horror.
@Adi that video is nice because he's building basically your exact computer ^^
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Oh, cool. Thanks. I didn't really know how to apply it
Also, isn't the thermal compound that comes with standard heatsinks fairly low quality compared to say, arctic silver?
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag AAAaaaalmost
Newegg looks like a very decent site
It's like the Hobbyking of PC stuff
22:56
@MarkBuffalo No, contrary to what elitist jerks will tell you, the paste that comes from the manufacturer is researched very heavily to determine how effective it is with the alloys used on the cooler. It is more than sufficient for a normal gaming build.
@Adi When it works, Newegg is my go-to site for builds. I don't usually buy from them because they are a tad pricey, and I have amazon prime.
And if you're overclocking?
@MarkBuffalo The only time I will suggest aftermarket paste is when the person will be overclocking.
I don't expect him to overclock right now
Yeah, I usually overclock.
Hence the arctic silver I'm using
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Awww! That build has the same SSD I have!
I don't think I'll bother overclocking the next rig, though.
Adi
Adi
22:58
The 1TB Samsung
@Adi 1TB?
Adi
Adi
Jepp
Adi
Adi
Just got it a few days ago
@Adi That would serve as a nice data drive in combination with the 256GB M.2 drive for the new build
Alternatively, you can salvage that and just not get an M.2 drive
Keep in mind though the M.2 is ~5x faster than that 1TB drive
@Adi please make sure you watch both of those videos a few times before putting your hands on 2000 euro worth of tech :)
Adi
Adi
23:02
@DavidFreitag I watched the first and now 5 min into the second
@Adi When you were a baby, did you play with shapes?
You put the star block in the star hole, etc.
Well, that's what building a computer is. Scaled up... barely.
@Adi The second one is vastly more important, but you will need to know how to paste. It's OK if the cooler block slips around a bit when you put it on with the paste (in fact it kinda ensures you get a full application of paste).
you'll be fine
Adi
Adi
@MarkBuffalo What are shapes?
Adi
Adi
23:03
Are they like potatoes?
watch the videos then
Adi
Adi
I like potatoes
> No matter which bae you choose right now, you can always move to the other bae later.
:D
Does fav'ing a question notifies you when a new comment is posted?
Also, this one @Adi:
I couldn't really find a good installation vid for that cooler, so if you're having trouble with that one just search youtube for "Corsair H55 install"
Adi
Adi
23:10
@BenoitEsnard It used to. Not anymore
@Adi thanks!
Adi
Adi
@BenoitEsnard There's something else, though. When you go to your profile, in the profile tabs there's one called "Favorites"
There should be a blue number next to it
Yeah I check it quite often actually
Adi
Adi
It shows the "updated" questions in your favourite list
@DavidFreitag Thanks a lot for all the help. You've been very nice and helpful
Updated questions doesn't include new comments if I understood correctly, right?
Adi
Adi
23:14
I don't really know
Okay thanks, I'll try it then!
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Wow!
Sooo few cables!
Last PC I built in 2004 had so many cables going into the motherboard
Actually probably 2003
@Adi Non-modular power supply
Modular power supplies allow you to just plug in whatever you need, instead of having the entire cable getting in your way. I love them.
@MarkBuffalo seconded.
and a case with excellent cable routing, like behind the mobo mount, is doubly important.
23:32
wat. you route cables behind the motherboard mount?
show me this new-fangled case
