I actually do it alot of poultry... love duck...the rest of the birds i eat are flightless... except a bit of goose fat on my potatoes
@kalina I didn't buy extra - they came with it :-)
@RoryAlsop petrolhead then? do you read jalopnik or rather wait for the next top gear?:)
@RoryAlsop this is what happens when you let @DavidFreitag spec your machine
what was that website that lists pc components and color codes groups according to budget
why have none of you recommended that to @Adi
@kalina whats wrong with LEDs people need to know you iz pimpin
@silverpenguin no they don't
13:03
@RoryAlsop it can't be written... you're gonna do the pls dance?
@kalina generally I cover most external LEDs with Duck Tape
@kalina i wanted blue LEDs to match the back light and mouse :<
@kalina nurd
@kalina he? what? oh. Hmmm...
@M'vy :p~
@Simon whatever
13:03
@silverpenguin my mouse and kbd can be set to any colours
.oO( putting Simon back on ignore )
@kalina Put that snake back in your mouth.
@kalina still is registered as .co.uk so...
@Adi no that's too well designed
come on it was linked in here
I'd assume you'd all remember one random link that was posted in here
13:05
@Adi, what about hardwarerec.SE?
@SmokeDispenser eww
we don't recommend other SE sites in here
Adi
Adi
@SmokeDispenser Well, it fits kalina's design description
hehehe
this is going to ruin my day
@SmokeDispenser you know directly agitating me will actually result in an immediate and long term use of the ignore list functionality?
especially with recursion, relying entirely on your own actions as the basis for proof
13:07
@kalina what? you're not replying, what could you possibly mean?
@kalina neat.
Adi
Adi
@kalina Oh my god!
You weren't joking
no I wasn't -.-
Adi
Adi
About the design
Is there somewhere where I put my monies and it gives me a good build?
13:11
@Adi approximate cost is down the right
Adi
Adi
I think I like choosemypc.net more
You choose the country and the monies
fine, you make whatever choice you want to
just remember I stopped painting my nails to search for the other site
Adi, what's your budget and desired use?
@Adi it is even trying to translate everything. with google translate, seemingly.
Gaming, etc?
Adi
Adi
13:13
@MarkBuffalo About 3k EUR. Gaming, video editing, etc.
It generated this to me uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/4rhMJx
@Adi wow, for 1000 USD they recommend an i5-4460 paired with a R9-390X :O
Adi
Adi
I'm already emotionally attached
You'll be able to get the top of the line, or damn close, for 3k euros.
Adi
Adi
You know, I've never in my life played any game with FPS above ~ 25-30
It's hard to adjust
13:15
30FPS is not playable
I think you meant 60FPS
@kalina *144
@kalina It's fine for chess...
Adi
Adi
@kalina Nope, I mean 30
I still haven't really adjusted from my poverty gaming experience
@Matthew 1FPS is fine for chess unless you have stupid character animations
@MarkBuffalo you played on console?
13:15
And now that I can afford a good computer, I won't spend money on one
Adi
Adi
Like.. I'm sooooo shocked when I see YouTube gaming videos on my work laptop
@Adi well that's console level performance
Adi
Adi
They're sooo crisp
and smooth
@kalina pc. With outdated components
@Adi really, how do you chat with 800x600 resolution?
13:16
@kalina Battlechess FTW!
@kalina Battlechess! I remember playing that, in the really early 90s...
< 800x480
Adi
Adi
When I hear someone playing some game at 70 FPS
I cannot even imagine how that looks
It's like 5th dimension to me or something
13:18
@Adi yeah, so you'll want a good monitor to go with it too. Desired resolution?
@Adi the VR headsets are aiming for 90fps
@Adi basically you know when you're playing games at 30fps and you input commands and there is a tiny delay between your command and the response on screen?
@RоryMcCune Clearly JK Rowling was influenced by this...
@Adi I play at 70fps right now. Some games cause motion sickness, but not if I have low fps.
well at 60FPS that delay is half
and at 120FPS half again
and at 240FPS half again
and at 480FPS half again
and at 960FPS half again
13:19
I remember 500fps in rtcw
..years after release
@MarkBuffalo RTCW <3
Adi
Adi
@kalina When I'm playing Insurgency, and I shoot at the wall, there's dust and wall fragments
My "gaming" PC explodes
The fan goes crazy
and the game slows down sooo much
So yeah, I think I know the delay
as a Surface Pro 4 owner I feel obliged to ask "are you sure that's not thermal throttling" ?
I barely even get fan noise from my gaming PC even under full load, and with the lack of hard disks that means it's still silent
Adi
Adi
No. It's just having a 1.6Ghz Dual Core CPU
With 2GB RAM
I thought you had 512MB of RAM
13:24
Ouch.
@Adi freq doesn't say a lot anymore
Adi
Adi
32 mins ago, by Adi
My main PC has 512MB of RAM
2 mins ago, by Adi
My "gaming" PC explodes
oic
yes I got that before the second message
Adi
Adi
My gaming PC is not really mine
and yeah games aren't really CPU bound anymore
except badly written games like Minecraft
Adi
Adi
13:25
@SEJPM I think the graphics card with this one is embedded in the motherboard or something
well then it isn't a card, is it
Adi
Adi
My biggest worry is that I invest 3k in a PC that turns out to be shit
if you spend 3k on a PC it won't be shit
Adi
Adi
I guess my best bet is to go with whatever @David recommends
well I suppose it could be
no, @DavidFreitag doesn't know anything
he's only an engineer
13:28
@kalina did you paint them to match your PC?
@Adi 3k euros on a pc is too much
@RoryAlsop no I'm actually getting ready for a weekend of working while simultaneously getting wrecked
Even for a gaming pc... unless you really want to waste money
@MarkBuffalo silly American, you don't even know what a euro is
@Adi but yes, 3k is excessive, you could build a reasonable gaming PC for 1000-1500
You can get a good system for maybe 1500 to 2k euros
13:29
@MarkBuffalo depends on the usage scenario
A very very good system. With 32gb of ram
Want me to build you a list?
Why the hell would you need 32GB of RAM for gaming
do you even play games?
@MarkBuffalo 32GB DDR3 1066 ?
of which the majority are still 32bit and can only address 3GB of RAM?
and the rest are designed for consoles so will only use 8GB of RAM?
@kalina video editing.
13:30
Video editing != gaming
@kalina gaming -> video editing
He asked for video editing flexibility
@SmokeDispenser it isn't (if the adversary is nonce-respecting)
@SEJPM your operator makes no sense
@kalina do the nails first then, otherwise it gets messy. I sometimes don't get around to doing mine until just before going on stage - bad idea. Damp nail varnish + cyberlox dreads flailing about everywhere...
13:31
damn.
@RoryAlsop left hand is done... right hand has two fingers done...
@kalina yep - wasn't bad
toes are done
@kalina you play, record and want to show off your MLG pro skills so you need to edit your junk
@RoryAlsop But let them dry before putting on anything with sleeves (made that mistake this morning...)
13:32
@kalina gaming...and video editing... and Cubase...
@Matthew oh - I usually have my clothes on by that stage
@RoryAlsop Gaming won't ever use more than 8GB of RAM
until the next console generation anyway
My use case for 32GB is VMs
@kalina But if I'm gaming while compiling/rendering - I need it
VMs is a real use case
@SEJPM so then why is this voted up instead of my answer?
13:33
@Matthew hang on - this morning?
@RoryAlsop To be fair, this was clear nail varnish to try and hold a cracked nail in place a bit better, rather than going out with bright/black varnish
@Matthew heh
superglue
that's what you need
best solution ever
@SmokeDispenser because he was first?
@SEJPM he wasnt.
@RoryAlsop That was the previous stage. It's now not big enough to need that, but still catching if I'm not careful
13:34
@SEJPM, same time. votes came in after both were there.
lol - get us...geeks chatting about the colour of gaming rigs, plus nail varnish...
@SmokeDispenser his answer is right though, the OP is describing a KPA and this only works if the attacker made a flaw
and in theory you could recover the keys
@SEJPM yeah, if the ransomware did it wrong, then sure it may work. but that is not part of the question.
@SEJPM well, yeah, with about the complexity of a brute force against the key.
@SmokeDispenser it is
you can't break something like FEAL (possible but unlikely) without known plaintetxs
@SEJPM where? I'm feeling kind of blind, not seeing that.
13:40
@SmokeDispenser "Would comparing all of those files against their unencrypted backups in addition to the other cracking algorithms help discover the key?"
@RoryAlsop have you ever actually done this btw?
I am more than capable of playing games while rendering audio with only 16GB of RAM
-> "does a stupidly large amount of known plaintext help me?" -> maybe, if they made a mistake
@SEJPM Ah, I suspected that to mean "would the files help with brute forcing"
@kalina yes - Adobe Premier takes ages, so I want to be able to do something for the 50 minutes it decides a video will take.
@SEJPM More directly, it means you have most of the plain text anyway...
13:41
(haven't compiled in the background for ages though...)
@RоryMcCune They should be made to build a pure C app for multiple architectures including several hundred libraries. This would stop the practice very quickly.
oh, video editing
yeah I don't do that
uh, nice. I even got a downvote w/o a comment. I like those
@SmokeDispenser that was me, for complaining about not getting enough upvotes
Yeah, usually it's a loser
13:42
@MarkBuffalo ...
@kalina I guessed that.
Usually being the key word....
Not applicable to you, kalina
too late now, you said what you said
No
I said usually!
13:43
@LucasKauffman You should have been at syscan. :P
@SmokeDispenser If it's any consolation, I gave you an upvote with no comment
OH MY GOSH
I hate my life
You have voted and undone your vote too many times. Your vote is now locked in.
Wait. You complained about not getting enough upvotes?
WHY DOES IT ALWAYS LOCK THE VOTE AS A DOWNVOTE
@kalina lol
13:44
That's your fault then, haha
@RoryAlsop well, I usually only dislike downvotes w/o reasoning. upvotes are a "you're right", there is not much to reason about;)
@BlueBerry-Vignesh4303 Hi Doctor Blueberry!
@SmokeDispenser sorry
@Matthew doctor? wow :)
13:45
I have inadvertently been forced to downvote you for real
any discussion about the badlock bug?
blame SE for implementing bullshit nonsense
My favorite down votes are when I'm wrong and can learn something
@BlueBerry-Vignesh4303 we don't know anything yet
@kalina if he edits his post, you can retract
13:46
@kalina well, you gave a reason.
@BlueBerry-Vignesh4303 you essentially bypass bit locker
@MarkBuffalo nope
The bit locker key is stored in memory
tried that
@MarkBuffalo not in the TPM? (sry was the backup key)
13:46
@SmokeDispenser my reason was "I was teasing you and got defeated by the system"
And you can grab that key from anyone's system
now the obvious solution is for me to bounty you all of my rep and delete my account
@SEJPM bit locker allows you to upload your key to Microsoft for storage
hey @Adi here's a question for you to answer... security.stackexchange.com/questions/118449/…
@MarkBuffalo or to store it on an USB drive or on your TPM
13:47
@kalina just asked for a reason, not that it is good. I do not suspect that of you anyways;)
@SmokeDispenser genuinely, SE prevents you from adding/removing your vote too many times and I had no intention of downvoting you (because it costs me rep)
I'm just guessing
@BlueBerry-Vignesh4303 Simpsons reference...
@kalina no worries;)
@BlueBerry-Vignesh4303 I think you asked too early
13:48
@Matthew :) thnx for doctor :)
@SmokeDispenser have 4 upvotes
@SEJPM so now there is probably a way for an attacker to access this,
for proper rep farming you'd have to wait until april 12th
@kalina I'm fine with loosing rep for teasing reasons. As long as it is not a "you are wrong" without helping me to understand where I am wrong.
well it's too late, I already upvoted you loads
13:49
well. thanks, I guess? More imaginary interwebs points for me then.
@MarkBuffalo still better than backing it up at MS?
soon I will be able to edit without approval;)
@SEJPM Yes, but all bit locker keys are backed up at MS by default
@MarkBuffalo wrong
If I recall correctly, that is
13:50
@kalina, you seem to have company, though. 2 dvs;)
why don't you use one of the versions of windows with "professional" or "enterprise" in the name
Bit locker keys are accessible at meekrosoft. Give me the meekrofilm
only home edition requires your key to be uploaded to MS
@MarkBuffalo no, all device encryption keys (bitlocker for Home / poor users) are backed up to MS by default
@kalina so home edition. Aka most people?
13:51
I think we're being trolled by a linux user
@MarkBuffalo only a fool would run home edition
@kalina most people run home edition.
@MarkBuffalo Probably not... Most home users, but I suspect there are more business users overall
I don't care that most people are fools, this is basically the thing I've been saying for years
@SEJPM good to know.
@kalina I do right now
13:52
@kalina, I see you are my personal typo police. nice d)
I run pro, I'm not forced to upload keys
the rest of you are obviously just a bunch of suckers
@SEJPM and professional / enterprise... backed up by company?
@MarkBuffalo nope
@kalina I run Enterprise... And my keys are backed up by the company for compliance reasons
@Matthew there we go
13:53
pro/ent give you three options of what to do
one of those is export to file, one is export to microsoft etc
paper, USB, TPM, AD, MS
So there's a way to get keys from all copies. Paper, usb, tpm, ad
@MarkBuffalo Although I generally think it's reasonable for them to do that, given my job!
So there's probably a way to trick copies of Windows into giving away their keys
To bitlocker, etc
@Matthew well obviously if you have a company device then the key belongs to the company, not to you
13:55
Not just normal windows logins which are cake
@MarkBuffalo fake the AD, break the TPM, read the paper, break MS, find and read the USB
I wonder if this is what badlock is. Let's see on April 12th
I hope 2016 is full of major vulnerabilities in linux all year again
@MarkBuffalo Nah, it's about computers being stolen due to non-compliant kensington locks
it'll all be about peeple
13:57
I hope peeple launches so I can send hundreds of abusive reviews about the founders
pfffft
@MarkBuffalo Well, the website seems to imply Windows and Samba, which can run on Linux and which does not have bitlocker.
@diagprov well, what if samba can get these keys too?
