@FEichinger What on earth is wrong with + as string concat? What do you want . to do a concat??
@DavidFreitag yes, yes he does.
And he claims this is the proper, natural way to do so.
@AviD Hehe. I got that far into PHP and ragequit.
Aaaand he thinks this is nothing to do with his PHPness. ;-)
@DavidFreitag yes, that alone is enough of a WTF to never get near PHP.
Variable declaration.. check. Print to stdout... check. Str..... WHAT?! Flips desk
@DavidFreitag What's wrong with + as String concat is that + is add not append.
Which is what causes 1 + "1" = "11".
00:57
@FEichinger yes, and what do you get when you add two strings together?
a new string combining both.
@FEichinger Yes it's a string. Not an int. Get your types straight.
@AviD No, you cannot add Strings together.
@FEichinger no, thats stupid - that is mathematical addition, not logical.
or liturgical (sp?)
@FEichinger If you had proper typing you wouldn't be able to fail that hard.
01:51
Maaaan watching Rocky gave me the biggest headache ever.
02:01
@FEichinger What do you mean you can't add two strings together? Multiplication works just fine, so why shouldn't addition?
Oh, wait... You can't multiply a string by a string. Pretty sure you can still add though.
I don't even know what language we're talking in anyway. Just felt like spouting some random crap about whatever looked to be the current topic. Feel free to disregard me and carry on.
@Iszi ASCII maths ftw

1 hour later…
03:05
I'm not sure this guy gets the "R" in "RDP".

Q: RDP into windows 7 localhost

Dilii'd like to be able to RDP into my localhost. simply put, i want to RDP into the machine where i'm making the connection from. is this possible? thanks!

Damn HTTPS breaking OneBox again.
03:43
@AviD I'm pretty sure that's an arbitrary limit set by the standards and not some inherent limit to the algorithm itself. /cc @ThomasPornin @CodeInChaos
@FEichinger This is why you use a proper language with strong typing.
04:07
So, anyone got a list of all the announcements at WWDC? I'm seeing something about a new language. What else is there?
04:28
@AviD Most gruesome death so far imo.
Maybe equal to the red wedding.
@AviD Thanks for the warning! ;)

3 hours later…
07:17
@TerryChia oh sure, apparently. Though I'm not sure about the "arbitrary" part, they probably have to test and certify each length, different considerations, etc.
@TerryChia in any show of all time.
it is still burned into my eyelids.
@TerryChia no, that was just horrible. it wasnt so horridly gruesome.
@AviD The next one or two episodes should have some interesting deaths as well. ;)
no spoilers!
I think we have just started series 2. So far no gruesome deaths. Much sweetness and light
:-)
and confusion
@RoryAlsop And bewbs.
and dragons
@TerryChia oh yeah, a few of them
07:21
it was also a bit disappointing - without spoilering, I'll jsut say that I had hoped to get more mileage out of <...> before that was cut short.
Season 1 had Ned Stark's head chopped off right?
@TerryChia HEY! Spoilers!
and - yes.
@TerryChia yeah
seen worse in heavy metal music vids
:-)
Someone mention bewbs?
@AviD Cmon! That was so long ago. :P
07:23
@RoryAlsop yeah, that death wasnt horrible for its goryness, but for shocking all of us who didnt realize "Everyone dies" applies to the characters we like, too. Ostensibly the star, at the time.
@AviD I don't think that was shocking. It was Sean Bean after all.
@TerryChia yeah, well you read the books.
everyone else was like "WHAAAAAAT."
@AviD I actually read the books after Season 1.
@TerryChia 'Sharpie!'
@AviD And I was referring to how Sean Bean always dies.
07:25
@TerryChia does he?
still, since at the time I thought this was a sane show, I expected it to be a case of Mr. Bean finally finding a home.
@AviD Btw, I also found the scene between Arya and the Hound hilarious.
@TerryChia oh yeah, absolutely - I definitely enjoy that arc. They both definitely grew on me, and they work well together.
@TerryChia ok I cant watch that all the way thru.
Noooooo don't dig up the road yet I'm not ready to wake up
07:30
heh, excellent, new euphemism. "dig up the road"....
yay, results are in :3
its not my heart ^^
07:47
@Lighty Glad to hear that :)
@AviD ...
I hope you catch something dangerous
I need coffee
oo Imma go catch me some dangerous coffee.
@kalina I see as your hearing is improving you're thinking about the song again.
no
although my hearing is improving
for the first few minutes before I was shocked back into deafness I could hear pretty well
considering somebody set up a pair of jackhammers outside of my window
this is literally the worst day of my... er... week
this household has no coffee in it
there is decaff
but...
and there is tea
but...
08:02
@kalina that's not coffee
how could this be?
@kalina what sort of uncivilised person doesn't have coffee in their house!
WHO DID I PISS OFF TO END UP IN THIS SITUATION
more like piss on...
@RоryMcCune it's not like I drank the last cup of coffee
because if I had, I'd have bought more
since that's what I do
08:04
@kalina Was it the owner of the dog who did that?
I'm going to have to go to starbucks
back in 15
Anyone here a creepypasta reader?
sortof
if you call being-forced-by-freinds a type of reader, then yes
08:22
There are two creepypastas that I re-read every now and then, simply because they are so good and just the right amount of creepy
creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Psychosis this is the best one I've read. Ever.
Woohooo!! Finally! My all-nighter has paid off!
@Kisu Love, all the gauges and charts and buttons are rendering very nicely and working so nice
Browser is talking to NodeJS, NodeJS is talking to C++, and vice versa
Basic responsiveness is quite alright, and client action broadcasting is live.
@Adnan :* :* :* so happy for you, honey!
Now off to my well-deserved shower...
@Adnan Obligatory NodeJS blegh
@TerryChia Sooo.. now you hate NodeJS?
Not a hipster anymore?
08:34
@Adnan Wait wait wait wait wait, NOW?
@TerryChia Okay okay... anything that isn't written in Python or Mindfuck you hate.
@Adnan Ah no, I appreciate to some degree anything that isn't written in PHP or Javascript. ;)
cmd = "SELECT * FROM employees WHERE name='%s' " % (uname)
curs.execute(cmd)
JFC. Work is so busy I'm eating lunch while working.
@TerryChiaHow do you like that Python code?
@Kisunminttu Oh no! I bet that nobody in this room has ever done that.
(Sarcasm. At least half of the people here have done that before)
08:38
@Adnan It's different when your work revolves around talking
@Adnan Not using SQLAlchemy. -1.
@Kisunminttu My job revolves around using my fingers in a very meticulous manner.
So I can't afford keeping them busy with food
Food to mouth -> someone calls -> must swallow instantly or push food into cheeks -> talk -> repeat. It took me about an hour to eat a store-bought salad.
@Kisunminttu Store-bought salad?!
WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?!
You're not the Kisu I knew
@Adnan WHAT
08:41
@Kisunminttu Please tell me you at least have EVOO in the office
@Adnan I ONLY HAD A 10 MIN BREAK TO GET THE LUNCH
@Adnan If it's a choice between a salad and a microwave pizza, I'm taking the salad.
@Kisunminttu bloody hell thats some creepy sh*t.
@Adnan nope. the salad dressing that came with the salad.
how is that not a hollywood movie yet??
@AviD It's SO GOOD isn't it?!
08:45
I just watched the latest episode of GoT last night. I think I have enough nightmare material, thank you.
@Kisu Wanna watch Game of Thrones tonight?
@Adnan As if you'd have to ask :) of course!
@Kisunminttu ORRR you can go for a microwave salad.
@Kisunminttu When do you finish work?
@AviD Oh, nightmares? I have something for that!
08:48
@Kisunminttu hehehe, I'm sure you do, but @Adnan's my bro ;-)
@Kisunminttu dammit, girl! I've got code to review!
though in all fairness, the code is probably the bigger nightmare.
@Kisunminttu My place at 18:30?
@Adnan Nuh-uh, too early. I have some errands to run, remember?
@Adnan 19:30?
And I'll push the gym to tomorrow's schedule
@Kisunminttu WhatsApp
08:54
@Kisunminttu this is kinda like The Ring in story form, isnt it.
@AviD Hmmm. Not really?
I really like the "lost episodes" themed stories. Some of them are really good.
Oh! I just remembered one that was so good that I still think about it sometimes when I'm tired and looking in the mirror
@AviD creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Tulpa I'm sure you'll like it. It's very good.
seriously I'm not gonna read those anymore.
after this one, this one's the last.
actually I dont like the horror stories so much
I used to, I'd read every stephen king, dean koontz, etc. but dunno, not so much anymore.
That one is the last good one I have :)
I remember reading this really creepy horror book, but I forget the name and author. I just remember the story and the cover of the book. It was really old when I got it from the library, tried to search for it a few months ago but it wasn't there anymore...
fine
I am full of coffee now
@Kisunminttu what did the cover look like, and what was the story?
09:06
Schrödinger's cat applied to web development: If I don't look at it in Internet Explorer then there's a chance it looks fine.
hehehe
you know that feeling when you down a large strong coffee in a very short period of time
and then suddenly the world slows down around you for a minute
I would be so much more productive if I could maintain that state
@kalina So keep drinking coffee.
I can't
if I drink more than 3 cups of coffee an hour it makes me sick
@AviD The cover was a drawing of a half-rotten corpse dude, chained to a dungeon wall. The story was about some researchers who went to a haunted mansion, one of them was a female pastor or woman of religion? There was a scene in which she went to a room in the mansion and a giant crucifix fell and almost killed her. There was some sort of entity that kept haunting the team, the encounters with the woman were very... sexual in nature.
09:11
there's no such thing as ghosts
or religion
The scenes were very graphic, it made me wonder who the F came up with ideas like this
ever saw the inside of a biology book in second class in the netherlands?
they tend to be graphic too
makes me sick thinking of it
@Kisunminttu hmm, that's still pretty generic. I may have read it, it does sound pretty creepy though.
@Kisunminttu You obviously do not read Japanese manga. ;)
i stumbled on a music genre yesterday
japanese noise
that is an actual genre
09:16
@TerryChia I'm afraid I can't answer that.
@Kisunminttu wrong cover....
Hmh...
ah! this is why it sounded vaguely familiar, apparently I read stephen king's "lengthy review" of it.
@AviD Oh. Might be because it was in Finnish...
@Kisunminttu Isn't it a rather straightforward "yes I read it" or "no, I don't"? :P
09:19
@Kisunminttu yeah, everything is creepier in Finnish.
@AviD Or in Finland. Like @Adnan. ;)
PSA: Anyone wanting to pick up a Python web framework, stay away from web2py. It is incredibly terrible.
@AviD Dammit! I think I am mistaken. I'm thinking about that movie now, The Haunting
such a dangerous combination
I'm bored and hyperactive
explosions occur during periods like this
yuck, im about to ask a question on stackoverflow that i am struggling with tha past 2 days (and one day before weekend), and it tells me i am possibly on the ridge of being blocked for asking qestions, because past questions weren't "good" :S
do my horrible typo's weigh in with that?
@Lighty ah, so here's an idea:
dont ask crap questions.
3
09:30
gee, i didnt think of that!
thanks daddy
@Lighty 2/4 of your questions were closed. None of them has a net positive vote.
true, i think i know why, that because they're not only crap, i think people get upset they are "easy" questions too :S
but im horrible at explaining things, so all i can blame is me
2 mins ago, by AviD
dont ask crap questions.
plus you referenced W3Schools in a non-mocking, non-ironic manner.
also, PHP.
really?
i learned basics at W3, and at Codecadamy, its not a source of information, i got SE and google for mining info for studyng
i dont like W3 either though... its kinda outdated
09:34
@Lighty no, being outdated is not its problem...
it didnt earn the nickname "W3Fools" for nothing.
welcome to Stack Overflow
it sucks
(that site specifically)
@kalina not in this case, no - it is functioning properly, by rejecting crap.
@AviD my past experience states that if I ask a question on SO, it won't result in an answer
6 mins ago, by AviD
dont ask crap questions.
09:36
but getting downvoted/flagged for not hating w3 only means the community can be shady, the site in particular helped me out
alot
@AviD don't jump to conclusions
hes a tiger
thats all he does
:3
asking a question on SO from my experience results in a bunch of tryhards asking a bunch of questions in comments that were already stated in the question body
@Lighty no, it only means you are being clueless. you need to do some actual work before throwing the problem at the community.
and then once all the easy questions that I've already answered have been reasked, the question goes inactive
that's not my fault
09:37
@Lighty bounce. Tiggers bounce to conclusions.
that's SO failing at answering my once in a blue moon issue
like Crystal Reports being unable to generate a report unless it logs in to the database as SA even though all of the stored procs powering the report work fine if you connect via smss with the user Crystal is using
ive spend almost 3 days fidlding with my current script, its still for study yes, but i pulled out half my hair before i ask, because i know well enough that google gets me more awnsers that work then hairs i can pull out on a day, yet i cant find them, and everything i do/try just fails, again, again and again
or SQL server doing weird caching things that may or may not be a bug in SQL server but were completely unreproducible
@Lighty did you consider a career in the food service industry?
@AviD Heh.
09:39
what he's trying to say is "go get a job at McDonalds"
im not dumb, just stupid
@Lighty what are you trying to do?
I'm trying to pretend that the moment you start explaining your problem that I won't fall asleep
but since you chose to do whatever you're doing in PHP you should ask @fei
primarily because he's a sucker that uses PHP as well
and deserves to suffer greatly until he stops using PHP
@kalina And actually thinks that . for string concat is a good idea.
trying to use the simpelest PDO script, every tutorial i find suggest, but it won't put the information into the database, after fiddling with echo's and print_f's, i found out after a while that it doest put the POST info into the vars
wait, you're having problems setting vars from post values?
09:42
there could be a few things: 1: im stupid, 2: im stupid, 3: PHP hates me
yes
the most simple things always haunt me
isn't setting variables like day 1 stuff when learning a new language?
@Lighty there is a 4th option: You may be otherwise smart, but not suited to be a programmer. Not everyone is, no shame in it.
This is borne out by your selection of PHP as a programming language, too.
well, according to my teacher, i am fit to tackle the symphony PHP framework (not using it now) and spend half a year in the real world of developers while doing a handstand, if i know how to do 1+1 in javascript
'course that's not ruling out #1 and #3, too.
yes @AviD i may be smart, not so sure yet, but the things i learned are learned by myself, not by the guy thats supposed to make sense
09:45
would you not, like, $var = $_POST['postobjectname'];
@kalina you're an expert in PHP??
"how to set a variable"
no, I googled
and
"handling post values in php"
and then combined the stuff I read
i have that, as i said, im not dumb
just stupid
maybe a bit ugly too
i may have the wrong tutorials too, since thats my only source of teaching -.-
so you're going to have to speak to people who care
this conversation is resulting in part of my brain that I don't use anymore powering up
if you can find one
what with you using php
this is the world, people dont care :3
09:49
some do. you dont need to worry about those that don't.
@Lighty Have you tried setting the variables before binding them? That looks like the most obvious potential mistake given that I have absolutely zero idea how PHP handles things like that.
i did terry :3
studiolupa.nl/dashboard/admin/addplugin.php <-- thats the form which submits it, after submititng info, it shows a back button to the form page, and print_r's the string of the query
@Lighty psh, I'll be honest about it as well, I'd much rather retain my status as somebody is who not all that geeky than learn enough PHP to help you
especially since I playfully mock @fei daily for his PHP love
you dont have to, its an open question, who wants to help can help, much appriciated if they push me into the right direction
i dont mind :3
the right direction -> fdisk
09:54
@Lighty I did try to push you in the right direction
14 mins ago, by AviD
@Lighty did you consider a career in the food service industry?
;-)
you actually make me laugh
i like that
it wasn't a joke
it should be
@Lighty I opened up php.net, thought to myself "why am I doing this?", then closed the tab.
3
@TerryChia it's forever in your history
google have now profiled you as a php user
you are literally fucked.
just quit the IT industry now
09:56
hm... i wonder what google profiles me for..
there is no worse title than php user
@kalina you quite literally mean "figuratively".
which, considering some of the things on the internet
@AviD no, I meant literally
@kalina highly unlikely, as he is now labeled a PHP user.
PHP users dont get no lovin'.
3
well, its not erally my choice at the momment to use PHP, its school's choice and my boss's
09:57
the GlaDOS PHPUSERDISPOSALSYSTEM is a penetrative device that does to your insides what using PHP does to the IT industry
i'd rather do something that works
@Lighty lego mindstorms
I am going to build a house out of legos one day
i build a raspberry Pi container out of lego
