50ma across your heart and you're a dead duck
do it again then
dang, its been a long time since I travelled for work - things have really changed!
@tylerl Yeah but at <1kv the voltage matters a lot less
Construction sites here require instead of N and +110, they do -60 and +60. A 60v shock is barely perceptible.
so unless you touch both, you're not going to be hurt
well you have two kinds of reflexes when it comes to shock ... some will grab and won't be able to let go and some will let go immediately ... I'm the latter, by experience
22:02
you don't get the amps without the volts. No matter how many 1.5v batteries you connect in parallel, it's not going to drive enough electrons through you to even register.
Having been shocked by both 110 and 220 within a relatively short time, i think 220 is better.
@DavidFreitag well, the amperage might fluctuate depending on location and other factors.
To make this a scientific study, I think you need to do a voltage taste test.
Preferably with your tongue.
Mostly because 220 is running at 50Hz (in most places i think) and 110 in america is at 60Hz
@AviD tastes acidic ;)
@AviD No way, nipps.
22:03
try out a few different shock experiences, and compare. Make sure to take copious notes on each one.
@DavidFreitag testicles!
@AviD Yes.
I'll get the jumper cables and the car batteries, you get the beer.
@AviD "Experiment 37: results were shocking"
@DavidFreitag A dead human is a more probable outcome.
50Hz causes your muscles to suddenly spasm and then releases them, whereas 60Hz causes you to continuously spasm (thus absorbing more of a shock)
In fact you can survive; it depends a lot on the exact moment the surge went through (relatively to the heartbeat cycle).
22:06
damn and I was hoping for some cheap foie grass
@AviD you see the new chat flag? :D :D
lol
@tylerl I have had a million volts that just made me twitch, but I wouldn't short a 12v car battery
@TildalWave worth starring.
seriously - the volts are irrelevant in most cases
is the flag disputing the statement?
22:07
@RoryAlsop It's more about current carrying capacity.
@DavidFreitag yup
I used to repair colour TV's (amongst a few other things) - the flyback transformer in them could easily fling you across a room, whereas the million volt shockers I used to build to zap my schoolmates couldn't do much
110 american 60Hz mains is NOT fun to get shocked by. 220 @ 50Hz is like getting punched in the chest
yup
good analogy
@RoryAlsop But at the same token, a high enough voltage and you can get a 50ma arc across your heart easier.
22:10
@AGirlSaidMySmileIsCute okay...
@AGirlSaidMySmileIsCute Is she attractive?
@DavidFreitag Who?
@DavidFreitag but if you attach it a bit lower in just the right way, you can get your testicles to tingle.
@AGirlSaidMySmileIsCute You know... her.
@DavidFreitag I don't.
22:11
@AviD I'll have to try that the next time I'm on a masochism bender.
@AGirlSaidMySmileIsCute You do though.
ohhh. It is spam time. I see.
@AGirlSaidMySmileIsCute Think about it. Think.
@DavidFreitag You talking about Girl Who SaidMySmileIsCute ?
@AGirlSaidMySmileIsCute Yep, that girl.
22:14
@DavidFreitag Decent. I'd feel bad if I said something bad about someone's looks, but that doesn't mean that this girl isn't attractive.
@AGirlSaidMySmileIsCute Then why are you here?
3 mins ago, by AviD
ohhh. It is spam time. I see.
@AviD I'm feeding the troll.
@DavidFreitag Except I am not a troll...
22:16
speaking of which. Dinner time.
@AviD Care to share? :s
heh. Sure, come on over.
Sweet, be there in just short of 18 hours.
@DavidFreitag is that including passport control?
@AviD No, that does however include assembling a large piece of sheet metal to the bottom of a nissan truck and bolting on an outport motor. I'll also have to find a few paddles for steering.

heh NASA is in the Halloween mood
@ScottPack What's a 1099?
@tylerl I managed to get Bugzilla installed at work this morning. Turns out all i had to do was install ubuntu server instead of lube desktop edition.
sorry wrong one
Ok let me rephrase.
I think it's contractor vs full employment? Something like that
22:25
Ah okay
The 1098-T is what gets me buckets of money.
you mean 1089-NT?
or TF in Europe :)
It's the "I payed this much in tuition this year, now gives me moneys!" form.
shoot I just checked it really is a form
What you think i took the time to actually think up a fake tax document?
lol. I think this school may have just blocked lolbrary
False alarm.
22:35
@DavidFreitag the what?
hehe I like the rolled on a side beemer
I like that site because it has NSFW covers that prevent images from being loaded unless you click them, which is great for public places
22:55
Ticket issued to driver wearing Google Glass http://bbc.in/16okG90
hahahaha
23:05
I prefer the 27b slash 6
23:15
Even if this is a bunch of breathless reporting and hype, even the most basic details a deeply disturbing
@tylerl We already have a question about it:
3
Q: Malware that can survive BIOS re-flashing

D.W.The well-respected security consultant Dragos Ruiu is reporting that he has been infected with mysterious malware that can survive re-installation of the OS and re-flashing of the OS. In other words, he has taken an infected machine, wiped it, airgapped it, reflashed its BIOS, replaced its disk ...

> has the ability to use high-frequency transmissions passed between computer speakers and microphones to bridge airgaps.
Ho lee shee.
@DavidFreitag That specific bit tends to trigger my "this-is-a-hoax" neuron.
@ThomasPornin Me too, but if it were possible...
unplugs his speakers
On the basis that if PC speakers and microphones could do that, why the heck do we bother using Bluetooth and WiFi ?
Also, normal speakers act as filter for high-frequency sounds
Also, it would make nearby dogs completely mad
23:26
@ThomasPornin I don't know though, MIT is doing it. alumni.media.mit.edu/~wiz/ultracom.html
It's probably hideously inefficient in comparison, yet still capable of delivering a small trojan payload that vacuums the actual malware later
@DavidFreitag A critical point is that communication is a two-party protocol: sending data over sound works only as long as there is another device in the room which uses the same protocol.
@ThomasPornin Yep, it's possible, but if no one is listening you might as well be talking to yourself
@DavidFreitag the story of @Simon's life.
The ultrasonic air-gap may only work once the BIOS/UEFI is infected with the receiver code.
@AviD Huh? I don't remember mention anything about any lewd sex acts...?
Speaking of which, it's time to pickup my dinner.
23:55
@Adnan @Simon I feel sincerely flattered you would stir up a whole conversation about me, maybe if you weren't as much d**k heads people would actually care to listen to anything you have to say (even though you think you're IQ is as much as your SE reputation)- unfortunately you let your huge ego take over, just because you are unsuccessful in your life, doesn't mean you should spend all your free time on an online chatroom, feeding of people half your age and making d*ck remarks
@Adnan @Simon Really, I feel bad for both of you, I would hate to have such a desperate personality such as yours.
