17:00
@kalina there's a permanent solution to that
@Scorpion What kind of music do you listen to?
@deed02392 oi lad
@deed02392 yes there is, kill everything and everyone that makes me not want to be awake
@Simon Probably something lame like Hardcore.
@Simon "lad"?
@ScottPack You want a piece of me, boy?
@tylerl SUP BRO
@deed02392 Yeah, you're my lad.
17:01
@kalina there's another solution that's much less effort
i could even do it for you
@deed02392 you're right, enslave all men
well you have a vagina so that shouldn't be tricky
@deed02392 I find that once I get to around 10-15 completely willing to do my bidding, other women start calling me names
i can believe that
17:04
@kalina The first name that comes to my mind is "a typical woman".
@Simon w0rd
@Simon no
@kalina cc: @Lucas Another fine example.
@Lucas has been enslaved by a woman?
@kalina Oh no. Yesterday we were talking on Skype and you were mentioned. He said something and I agreed with him, and that message of yours gives more support to Lucas' opinion.
17:07
Well... glad to see I have't missed anything of any substance here.
@Adnan what was said?
also, why are you talking about me on skype?
@tylerl Oh you sure did. Just start with the first thing said by someone named @Scorpion
@Adnan eh? link it
@kalina I'm not sure it's suitable for the DMZ.
@Adnan Whoa.
17:10
@Adnan well you know my other location
@ThomasPornin Sup my boy Thomas.
@Adnan sounds a bit like a tool. But he doesn't appear to be saying anything... intelligible
@tylerl A bit? Stop being so nice.
@tylerl He didn't want to say what he develops because he didn't want us to build a virtual profile of him.
He also seems to be suffering from social and, quite likely, romantic rejection.
17:18
@Adnan Paranoid prick /cc: @kalina
Excluded from the social groups in his immediate surrounding.
Critical of the number of Facebook friends other have. Very likely because his friend requests were constantly ignored.
Quite an interesting study subject, I say.
I really wish he'd come here more often. I'd love to explore his personality.
He certainly has suicidal tendencies (are on the way of developing them)
Quite good psychological analysis skills right here, @Adnan
@Adnan That might be what he's developing, hence why he didn't want to tell us.
@Simon That's some good ol' comedy.
Starred!
@Adnan Thank you. I don't think many people are into suicide jokes though.
Except us, of course.
@Adnan yes, because that is what we need to see more of around here
17:23
@tylerl Why not? It'd fun to manipulate him. He's very paranoid, but not reasonably skeptical. Those people can be easily manipulated.
Just think of all the fun things we can do to his already damaged personality!
I think you meant to quote Tyler the tiger.
@Simon ?
@tylerl It has been resolved sir, you can move on.
@tylerl I mistakenly replied to him, while I was meaning to reply to you.
@Adnan story of his life.
sorry @simon
17:25
REALLY?
He's denying the his internal desire to be accepted by pretending to be better. At this young age, that's an indication to an emotionally distant parent. Lots of angles to explore here!
Now that I'm reading my words out loud, I can really see why psychoanalysis is considered voodoo/pseudo "science".
Man, I wonder if someone will ever notice that the date of my modification in the code is on Halloween!!!
@Adnan If he ever reads this, he's definitely going to kill himself.
No human being can handle so much truth all at once.
@Simon Fantastic! I'll use that as a reference for my suicide hotline job.
@Simon Just add one more semicolon at the end of the line 666. It's always fun.
@Adnan Dayum.
@Simon I always write some subjectively-funny comments on line 42, 69, and (in rare cases) line 666.
17:30
42? Why?
Is that your age?
@Simon Isn't it obvious? That's the answer!
There needs to be some sort of auto-eject policy in this room for people who ask questions like that.
@Adnan Oh right! My boss told me about this a month or two ago. I'm too young to know the reference.
@Simon Although the book is older the new, the movie was released in 2005.
17:33
@Adnan Dude, you should know that it's always about the book, not the movie.
@Simon I was referring to... ahhh.. never mind.
Old people are so hard to understand.
Then they get mad like @Iszi did because my bones don't hurt like his do.
@Simon He's still in his early 30s!!!
Who's this magnificent creature who just signed in?!
@Adnan I'd be shopping my coffin if I were him.
Hello, @Brandon
17:36
@Adna
hey
Adna? Oh it all makes sense now, you're a chick.
@BrandonKreisel What brings you here, young man?
@Adnan What? I thought @kalina had been lurking for awhile already?
@Adnan just looking around, didn't know SE had chat rooms
@BrandonKreisel Oh it does. You've just happened to stumble upon the finest one there is.
17:38
@BrandonKreisel don't get too excited. they're just as mature as the chat rooms you've heard about from elsewhere
@Iszi smooth
@kalina wow.
just wanted to see what everyone would be saying in the IT Sec one, sounded the most interesting
@tylerl Here we go, an old person complaining. That's new.
and the name was comforting
17:39
@Simon RAAAAAGEE!!!!!
@tylerl :)
@BrandonKreisel Indeed. As you can see in the tags under the room's name, that's what we pretty much talk about.
@Adnan the people in the room tend to correlate with the most active users on teh corresponding site
@tylerl drawing me into a conversation with an indirect compliment is definitely a wow
hmm, I just got a "you must be logged in" error in chat
except for @kalina who's just here because we're the one room left that hasn't kicked her out
17:40
@tylerl hey, that's not fair
I am in four channels
@kalina You're welcome.
@Iszi Remember, 31
Man, old people are on a roll today.
I think it's the Halloween effect.
@Simon I like how 30 is "old"
@tylerl 30 is old, 40 is ancient
17:41
@tylerl To him, yeah. He's 15
@tylerl Well, @ScottPack is in the early 30s and he feels old sometimes when I say some stuff so yep.
Also, don't you have kids?
Old people have kids.
@kalina let me guess, 22?
@tylerl 18
@Simon old people and people who made bad decisions at the prom
@tylerl Which explains @Iszi
17:43
@tylerl So damn true.
Oh, I guess we almost scared the new guys away.
God damn it, @Simon. Do you have to ruin everything?!
@Simon Sometimes my knees and back hurts and sometimes I grunt when I sit down or standup.
@kalina So, what's that make @RoryAlsop?
@ScottPack Exactly. Thank you for your honesty.
@Iszi walking dead
17:46
@Adnan Hey, they have to go through a test when they join in. If they can withstand me, they're allowed in.
@scott the amount I hurt has a strong inverse correlation with the amount of painkillers or physio I have had that day
@Simon why was this test never run on me?
@kalina Oh it did happen, you just don't know it. Hence why you passed the test.
@kalina well thank you very much
@RoryAlsop Hahaha.
17:49
@RoryAlsop np @Rory
@Simon I think your test is appalling
ily2
@Simon What's this now?
@Adnan Oh c'mon, you can figure it out.
@Adnan ily2 = I love you too
@Simon Oh okay okay. Got it.
17:52
Rofl, sure you did now.
Miss party pooper let you know.
@RoryAlsop Clearly you need more painkillers. I recommend bourbon.
@ScottPack One day, I'm gonna drive to Ohio.
@Simon why?
@ScottPack Send me a bottle
@tylerl To get a drink with my boy.
17:53
@Simon s/boy/uncle/
@Adnan It would probably be cheaper for me to make a few recommendations.
I HAVE NO IDEA HOW REDDIT WORKS.
@ScottPack I'm in.
@Simon wha??
@Simon Apparently, you go to the website and 10 hours later you close your browser.
17:54
@tylerl I've browsed reddit less than 5 times, no kidding.
@Adnan That's what I heard too.

So, thank you seth vidal
@tylerl Meh. My background is in RedHat based so it makes more sense to me.
17:59
@ScottPack Guess how many helpful flags I have.
@Simon Dude, write some answers. We want to be able to see the Suggested Edit view.
@ScottPack Hehehehehe
@ScottPack 183!
Not bad, not bad. Only about half of what I got.
@ScottPack le fu-
@Adnan Meh, low rep rocks.
18:02
@Simon For someone who frets about their rep as much as you do, you spend a surprisingly small amount of time actually answering questions.
@tylerl Where are you located in the US again?
@Simon Sunny Arizona
saw a cloud today. it's pretty awesome.
normally we don't get those around here
@ScottPack Alright, here's the plan. I will drive to Ohio, we'll get a drink and etc. Then, I'll drive to Arizona, kick @tylerl's ass and then come back to Ohio so we can get another drink.
Sounds like a plan.
@Simon you don't appear to have a sense for distances
18:05
@tylerl It's a minor detour.
you're talking about 5 days of siting in a car
you could turn it into a crappy documentary
@tylerl Nice, what could it be about though?
@Simon do you even have to ask?
Dumb and Dumber To is an upcoming comedy film directed by Bobby Farrelly and Peter Farrelly. It is a sequel to the 1994 film Dumb and Dumber. The film stars Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, Laurie Holden and Kathleen Turner. The film is planned for a 2014 release, 20 years after the release of its predecessor. This will be the second film, after Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, in which Carrey reprises a role from a previous film. @RoryAlsop Awesome!
@tylerl Lol, I saw a patch of blue sky today when it stopped raining for 10 minutes..
@kalina h bb i forgive u wat u doin
@RoryMcCune mostly it looked almost like a blizzard, it was bouncing off the road so hard
@RoryAlsop yeah we had some hail earlier.. it's weird watching it blow in over the loch, there's this hill we call the Weather ben, 'cause if we can see it it must be relatively nice weather :)

here's some water, put that fire out
If that was a burn, then my name is Mr. Pendanski.
Boobies!
How's everyone tonight?
I'm doing fine on this rainy afternoon , thank you. How about you?
18:50
@LucasKauffman I like that that's how you introduce yourself
I wonder why their feet are blue.
Because it's the best color.
Well. That's odd. I just got an email from someone claiming to be a CTO who contacted me because of my SEI work. Probably not legit, but fairly well unexpected.
I always get busted.
@Simon huh?
18:57
@tylerl I bet @ScottPack understood what I meant.
19:07
@kalina doesn't say anything about wings and a tail, though.
Also... people get paid to do that sort of research?
@ThomasPornin hm. eating fish makes your feet blue?
...
@ScottPack why not? could be legit, I had a couple clients that found me via SEI.
I admit I was nervous at first, as far as payment goes, but it all worked out just fine.
@Adnan So, you're saying Reddit is like TVTropes?
19:19
SEEMS LEGIT
My laptop is so hot that I can keep my coffee warm if I put it directly next to my fan.
A mess is about to happen you might say? Well yeah, you might have a point.
19:45
@ScottPack If I lose myself tonight, it would be you and I.
@Simon dude wtf?
@tylerl What's up homie?
@tylerl If you're concerned about the well being of @ScottPack, I just wanna point out that he has never (so far) complained about me singing love songs to him. As a matter of fact, I strongly believe that he slightly enjoys it.
It hasn't progressed to the point of being creepy enough to encourage me to put a stop to it. I rather enjoy flattery.
Knew it.
Hmmmm. The DMZ has become a hotbed of romance and intrigue. Odd.

19:54
Oh fuck.
I just got accepted to University.
Bachelor of Computer Science Web Services and Applications
:)
Now, do I wanna study in English or French? That's a bit of a dilemma.
This University is English only.
Why would one want to pick French?
@RoryAlsop hardly, just a bunch of deprived boys fawning over a single individual
@kalina and that individual enjoys every bit of the attention ;)
intermittent
English. Clearly.
Hey man. I'm married with a pre-schooler. I'll take any amount of attention I can get.
20:06
I wish y'all would stop making assumptions about my nationality
@Simon "Computer Science Web Services and Applications" is oddly specific
@kalina Que?
Typically the "science" bit of CS is stuff like solvable, NP hard, grammars, and stuff like that
"Web Services" is engineering
According to your IP you are located in GB
@LucasKauffman got served
20:16
@tylerl boobies!
well I had to :)
@LucasKauffman I'm fine missus got me some nice trappistes from Brussels I'll be having with my dinner ;)
OH: »Let's replace Alice & Bob with Angela & Barack for our security examples.«
20:32
@b_erb rather Alexander and Barrack want to communicate and malicious Merkel wants to mount a Merkel-in-the-Middle attack
@tylerl Haha yeah. Either is pretty funny I think.
@AntonyVennard sigh -- looking for someone suitable to replace Trent.
No NSA leadership with name starting with T
@tylerl Telco? As in telephone company?
@AntonyVennard Not quite the same punch to it. Nobody even pretends to trust them.
@tylerl a fair point. Tap (as in wire tap, fibre tap)?
20:46
.... reading through 40 pages of emails before sending out an invoice just in case I agreed to bill them for something less than the actual hours logged.
...should this be billable hours?
By the way; if you've got technical skill and you've thought about contract work, I'd recommend trying it. Some of my guys make more money working part-time for me than they do at their day job.
21:23
Do they now.
@ScottPack right combination of skill set, free time, and chosen place to live leads to a certain arbitrage opportunity
plus contract income doesn't deduct insurance, tax, etc., which makes the numbers bigger.
Oh yeah, taxes. Because they'd be 1099s
My wife became full time 1099 last year. It's been a learning experience.
@tylerl when I shifted from working big 4 to solo self employed, my take home percentage of what I earned for the company went up from around 0.02% to over 40% (In the latter case, the taxman got most of the rest)
Well well well. Time for me to submit a patch back to McAfee so their product will continue to work.
@ScottPack Yeah. Our arrangements are sometimes even less structured than a typical 1099, because I require all my guys to actually manage their own operation. We don't provide an office, computer, internet, any of that. It's not one of those 1099-just-for-tax-reasons arrangements. You gotta mean it.
@ScottPack good luck with that
cause McAffee cares (tm)
21:33
@tylerl Sure. She's pretty much just on this side of the line. She provides her own all of that, but she takes more direction from the company than is typical for a 1099 and they often pay travel expenses to corporate events, conferences, etc.
@tylerl It's....weird. So a couple of years ago they acquired Nitro, a SIEM company. Their preferred method for getting Snort logs is that you use barnyard2. They then provide a patch to barnyard2 to use their custom output plugin that sets up an encrypted tunnel with the receiver and transmits the logs in their preferred output format.
@tylerl Only barnyard has progressed faster than their patches.
@ScottPack When I first set this company up, I spent several weeks figuring out how to structure the employee/contractor arrangement. But then looking at the laws and how the IRS can decide that your contractors are actually employees if you give them too many benefits... I was like: nope.
So the real question is whether or not I just give them my working patch file or if I diff it and provide a patch file for their patch file.
@ScottPack You should write it up as prose.
an epic novel.
My favorite thing, by the way, is when critical technical details are buried inside a 12-page email detailing the company's history, including several messy divorces and a run-in with the law.
Because I needed to know that he was cheating
Yeah...that sounds terrible.
Also, smart move on evading the IRS. That's usually a good idea.
And the family's now here. Time to see if the weather isn't so terrible that we can't go get candy.
Gentlemen. Lady.

omg @TildalWave - almost forgot to check this: what kind of electric plug is used in romania??
@AviD standard EU 220V
when are you going?
whew. thanks.
next week.
oh hang on - according to this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_plug its specifically the 2-hole variant.
so those with the 3rd pin wont fit.
hmm, actually dont think it matters to me.
@AviD no grounding plugs in the whole country?
that sounds a bit unsafe
oh, you mean the kind with the grounding on the sleeve?
"Schuko" is the colloquial name for a system of AC power plugs and sockets that is defined as "CEE 7/4". A Schuko plug features two round pins of 4.8 mm diameter (19 mm long, centers 19 mm apart) for the line and neutral contacts, plus two flat contact areas on the top and bottom side of the plug for protective earth (ground). Schuko sockets form a cavity into which the plug is inserted. Schuko plugs and sockets are symmetric AC connectors. They can be mated in two ways, therefore line and neutral can arrive on either pin at the consuming device. As with most types of Euro...
This article includes a list of countries and territories, with the plugs, voltages and frequencies they use for providing electrical power to small appliances and some major appliances. Every country has differing rules regarding distribution of electricity for portable appliances and lighting. Voltage, frequency, and wall socket type vary widely, but large regions may use common standards. This article lists wall socket, voltage and frequency commonly expected for many regions. In some areas, older standards may still exist, and physical compatibility of receptacles may not ensure com...
@AviD for most stuff you'd carry on you it shouldn't really matter, as long as they're the round connectors... I doubt you have 3 pin chargers, do you?
well maybe for the note brick
but better get the adapters at home, finding stuff there is a bit of a PITA
21:58
hmm, thinking about it, only things I would need to plug in are my phone charger (2-pin) and laptop - which is american plug anyway.
That does make you sort of wish the world would standardize on something, but the problem is that it'd probably be 220v, and I've been shocked by mains enough times to be quite glad the US is 110.
so I have a 2pin adapter for that.
@tylerl 220 is actually much less dangerous than 110.
@tylerl meh it's not that bad, I've been shocked on several occasions too ... I'm still as smart as I used to be, and it shows :D
its not the volts that get ya, its dem amps!
@AviD the volts help
