Due to her wealth, she is the creme de la creme at the school, but she is also kind hearted and generous, so nobody is jealous of her.
When her father goes missing in action (in WWI), Sara is suddenly destitute. The headmistress of the school allows her to stay as an unpaid servant, making her sleep in the attic and do housework all day.
