A long time ago I told a customer that they needed to start hashing the passwords in their database: just storing the plaintext version is unsafe.

5 years later I get a call from them saying a hacker seems to know all their passwords and they don't understand why.

A quick check of their DB shows that they have indeed started storing password hashes

in addition to the plaintext password.

I think they use carbon tips and they certainly look sharp
