@DLambert - I asked about that change too. I was a mod on a previous photo stack site and the end date of the message is controllable. That site is still up, I recently set the message, so it would seem that it can be managed to some degree. However, I'm guessing that on the mainstream sites, there has been too many stale messages, hence the change.
@Pearsonartphoto - If you get the Wacom bamboo series, go for the "fun" version. Despite the name, it's the more advanced. However, if you can spare the coin, I can only recommend the Asus EEE Slate. I just got it and, well, it's very nice to have from a photography perspective. Runs Photoshop CS5 quite nice too and it's a tablet PC with a touch sensitive screen that comes with a pressure sensitive Wacom digitizer pen. Very slick for photo editing and tethered shooting in one package.
Anyone looking for questions to answer? This query data.stackexchange.com/photography/s/1217/… shows questions which are getting a lot of hits, but which have no highly-scored answers.
Either the existing answers are underrated, or else they could use some attention.
These questions are probably showing up high in search results, so having great answers to them will be a good way to show off the site and attract new members.
@mattdm some of those are unlikely to get an accepted answer because the reality is that the answer isn't what the questioner wants to hear. The LR sync one is a prime example
As rumors predict the launch Canon 5D Mark III in 2011, do you think it is interesting to wait for a few months before buying a new Mark II for its future hypothetical low price ?
Well, I don't know about you guys but I totally intentionally tell people to use DSLR's so that their pictures come out worse - its the real trick to being a good photographer. Use a 9 year old 2 megapixel P&S for myself and convince all those other "people" to use silly stuff like D3X's and 5DII's.
@rfusca Everybody knows that sensor performance peaked in 2002 and that a secret cabal of all the major camera manufacturers- an Illuminati, if you will- has been slowly and purposefully decreasing the quality of DSLR sensors since that time in order to bring compact P&S cameras to the fore as the only choice available for taking high-quality digital photographs...
Further, if you are unwilling or unable to admit the truth of my above statement, than the only logical conclusion is that you are a member of the conspiracy and cannot be trusted to give good information to other members of photo-SE.
Please be aware that your presence has been noted- as have your names and vital information- and this information has been passed on to the appropriate authorities for further examination.
I think he undermines some of his potentially valid points with his antagonism... and undermines the rest of them by being blind to anything outside of his own point of view.
In the end one can only assume that the attitude comes from a place of selfishness and ego (because he appears completely unwilling to change the behavior), and so we're forced into conflict because the opposing view must be that the good of community is more important than the ego of the individual.
It would be so much easier if he could just be obedient to the "be nice" part of the FAQ. :-)
It's experiment time!
We'd like to try the following -- with help from the moderators and community leaders.
When a new "big" game is released, provide (x) copies of it gratis to gaming.se community members in good standing, with (y) rep minimum.
The game should be ordered by a community leade...
Ok then. Rowland, just so someone else can corroborate...it seems Handy Andy under his new persona "The Truth Deleted" is still absolutely unwilling to cooporate.
An interesting way that you can exploit auto white-balance compensating for filter tints is putting some of those old color filters to good use. I have an old filter that is a deep orange-brown color. It was designed long long ago for portrait photography to enhance skin-tones. Today I find that ...
was just chatting with our dgrin admin, the dude we had as "truth" was named chad something. The trollish patterns were spot on exactly the same though
it's been a coule years, and we've been happy to forget him. :)
He also has a couple of posts with username handy andy and email "ha@ha.com", but that obvious short name seems to be used for a lot of unrelated dreck so isn't so useful.
Went ahead and edited out any remaining snarkiness from all of "Handy Andy's" answers (well, any of the the ones with snark in 'em), as he won't be doing it himself once @jrista's campaign of terror and eradication begins in earnest. ;-) Might as well leave the good info available for others while removing the trollish behavior wherever possible...
Tunnels being naturally dark may not be the most intuitive choice for a place to take pictures. But I love the 'painting with light' work that artists such as 'Twin Cities Brightest' are putting out and they're clearly seeking out places like tunnels, caves, garages... Dark places in other words,...
Thus guy has been a troll for a long time...I think thats apparent. You mess with fire while your opponent was born a pyro, and your going to get scorched.
So we don't inadvertently offend/scare off a new member who is not a replica of handy andy, we should make sure we know its him before treating a member asking a question like it is him.
@mattdm I'm pretty sure he does too, however we can only assume this Jennifer account is him at the moment, and I don't want to treat an innocent member as a raging dickhead if I can avoid it.
