wordplay of the day comes from a random roadside ad
"Teeth. You'd literally suck without them."
extra points for pedant-approved use of literally
although i suppose making pedants cry should also be worth some extra credit

Q: Restricted โ€“ a cryptic crossword

JafeThis is part 62 of the puzzle series Around the World in Many Days. Each part is solvable on its own. Dear Puzzling, Every clue in this cryptic crossword contains one extra word, which must be removed before solving. Read the first and last letters of the removed words in clue order to reveal ho...

Let's see if I can solve this while at school

@Jafe should the clue for 11 across be for 10 across
or wait no
I think 9, 11, 12, and 13 across all need to be ++'d
04:30
Yeah was about to say, there's an issue in the numbering
Yeah I'm not surprised I was beaten to it lol
I didn't have a fast pace to begin with since I'm solving on mobile :p
04:54
Anyway I'm almost done, just trying to make sense of the extraction method...
Frick it I give up let's see how the extraction works
Oh wow why didn't I think of that

Q: Add a number, add a letter exactly twice

RogerAIn the first puzzle add a number exactly twice to get a country. In the second puzzle add a letter exactly twice to get a state. It is possible to get more than one solution here as solvers can be quite imaginative. But I have only a single solution so far.

@oAlt the extraction is a pretty cliche one. I personally found the clue for LENDL the hardest and gave up. After looking at the answer I felt pretty stupid.
@Jafe Kudos for including rot13(Znavgbon)! That's where I hail from!
15:45
oh cool!
15:58
@msh210 Any chance of a hint on the C4?
16:26
cccc hint: it's a reverse hidden inside the string "with gills"
_lig ht_<
oh wow
nicely done
16:40
it's pretty hard to hide a substring for two days
17:06
Yes, I'm amazed that lasted that long.
It's fairly evident that's the correct answer. I think you can safely post a new one.
@PDT Relatable, I found "Lendl" last
@Jafe oh wow, nice find
(I just realized the clue has been edited)

@oalt a lot of the puzzle I cheated and used multiple crossword solving tools on the net. If I canโ€™t get a clue I tend to reverse engineer the answer either from feeding the ends systematically or finding possible answers from letters already filled in, usually I can find a very plausible answer after only a little search. Like I cheesed the Canada clue by typing places in Canada (8).
Manibota had boat in it so it was a very promising prospect
I myself am still not immune to using the word matching website Quinapalus and looking at dictionaries (mainly MW and Collins) and Wikipedia if I don't know any words for the definition
I think that was minimal in Jafe's crossword earlier, but I guarantee you that's not what happens in general lol

Interesting obviously you are then much better at cryptic clues than I.
17:51
I guess so but I'm in no way an expert lol
Most of the cryptics they set in The Independent are still hard for me

Q: They gave away the wordle when they shared the colors! What was it?

Dr XorileWordle is a game in which you have to guess a 5-letter word. Here's a snip from the New York Times website: Judging the letters is done from left to right. So here is an example that I think covers the corner cases: One of the features of this game is that you can share your game result with th...
