yes
00:03
(doggo's name is Marshall btw)
marshall (kinda reminds me of marshmellow)
sweet!!!
cool! nothing to solve on PSE :) i could head back to my puzzlecrafting
have you tried any of my tetrikabes?
Cute doggo! <3
@Sciborg 100% agreed :P
00:30
nice doggo
00:41
@bobble where
@bobble Do you know hot to put letters over pictures in sheets?
difficulty: Hiding in the Corners < Five Fours < Socially Distanced Fours
no
arrrggg
I can't put a blue bobble and an orange deusovi then!
It was supposed to be a little easter egg joke
>.< im making a metapuzzle i hope i finish asap
time is running low
00:45
Hey OmegaKrypton, looked again at the 4-d crossword, and just can't seem to make headway. Care to provide a hint?
@bobble The link should be puzzling.stackexchange.com/…
oh yeah searching for "me" won't work for other people
I just gave the link I use for myself
Those tetrikabe's are quite fun. Gotta admit, even if I'm not getting many answers, I'm enjoying the grid puzzles.
@JeremyDover XorW split isn't VEE @JeremyDover
ooh
00:47
think it more lateral-thinking-wise
u're in the right direction, though
Dang...I thought that one was super clever! As Spinal Tap says, there's such a fine line between stupid and clever.
Will keep looking...thanks!
you're doing [X or W] [split] right?
@JeremyDover tbh you're so very near on that one, just split the clue in some other way...
Yeah. Thought X split (as a Roman numeral) is V, and then W split (down the middle) is also V.
@JeremyDover yes, but could the question be split in another way?
OK, think I might see it...just a moment while I look.
00:53
nice :)
So I think you're heading to LET: (X or W) = LETTER, split -> LET. But I'm not seeing how I can massage the grid around it. I fear I might be too far into a dead end to back out easily :-(
don't fall too far
01:18
is "AC revealing B" a valid cluing for "ABC"?

Q: Stuck on a minesweeper supposedly solvable through pure deduction

LDRI'm playing minesweeper on a website that says you can win using pure deduction without guessing, and I am currently stuck in the top left corner of the map. It's a 30x16 grid with 170 mines and the rest of the grid is solved. Is this possible without guessing? Since there are 5 blocks on the t...

01:32
@oAlt Don't think that works. Shrouding or hiding would certainly work though. You might get "AC featuring B" to work...
oh ok thanks :0
01:47
@JeremyDover nah, not LET
u're still doing [X or W] [split]
divide the clue in a different manner
@oAlt thanks :)
:D
02:18
who's ready for another FTC entry haha (owell look at me being productive this week)
I'm going to be releasing a sashigane tomorrow
oh thats nice
i've made another puzzle, this one is quite "new", as the ruleset is created by a friend of mine -- and it's super fun!
ooh, interesting
looking forward to it!
oh deus, you know chao right haha
oh yeah - is this one of his? neat
02:24
yep, do you know "Greener Grasses" genre by him?
@athin always ready (to upvote :D )
oh yeah! that one's a really interesting ruleset
the main mechanic is something i don't think i've seen before
Yeah! I'm really hooked to explore more about this genre
tho I dont plan to set a hard puzzle as an entry, but it may turn out to be hard for solvers, especially who see this for the first time
(I even take much time to solve his "example" for this genre lol ><)
that makes sense - i don't think the example was too hard, but finding the break-in was difficult for me. and i used a lot of the checkerboard pattern in the solve, which is very specific to that puzzle
ah exactly, break-ins are pretty hard to find in this puzzle, but once you had that usually the solving goes smoother (this might be similar to hitori, but hitori is way smoother after the break-in)

1 hour later…
04:02
@oAlt apparently you shouldn't make example puzzles while fuming that wikipedia didn't check their example
i had to replace the tatmibari example puzzle since wikipedia's wasn't unique and I forgot to check one of the rules
hides in shame
you needn't hide, bobble :)
04:38
Hahahah

Q: On the off, in-with with-out

JonMWhen it's fat then it's thin. When it's slim then there's min. When it's fights there is hope. 'Til it's outside, then nope. You can take it if you think you must. You can give it if you're feeling trust. The first one's for whenever you're able. The last one, you might find a poker table. What i...

Q: How to solve candy collectors puzzle?

PeanutlexI am trying to solve this Jane Street puzzle with the solution given here. I briefly summarise the problem here. For convenience I will rewrite the puzzle here: Five children went trick-or-treating together and decided to randomly split their candy haul at the end of the night. As it turned out,...

Q: I'm confused with a puzzle answer

PuzzletteThe puzzle itself is this: "Next door to me live four brothers of different heights. Their average height is 74 inches, and the difference in height among the first three men is two inches. The difference between the third and fourth man is six inches. Can you tell how tall is each brother?" Now,...

Hints 1, 2, 3; CCCC hint 4: However, everything else msh210 said in his guess was correct. (Refer to hint 3 to see what I deemed as incorrect.) And the second letter is U.
14:52
@oAlt what is a clipped synonym?
synonym with the last letter removed
ah thanks
:D
that was devious >;]
no comment, obv :0
14:57
SUPPOS(-e) for prompt, plus IT, plus I for some reason, plus ON (live) = SUPPOSITION?
nope. it doesn't match the intended definition. but you are now getting warmer
or it translated is TI, plus ON for live and it's another -TION word
qat knows 53 -tion words with u as the second letter... now to come up with a theory for each
wait... can clipped be a containment indicator
clip can mean "to grip", apparently
but in that case i think you'd need something before "clipped"?
can it be *S(something that yields pecula)TI + ON?
15:04
(really excited for this c4 to be put to rest (today, hopefully :P))
i think you got "ON" @jafe
and most likely *TI
but what ahead
@Sciborg, are you here? I'm planning to post the Sashigane soon
15:22
(oops, it seems that the latest hint gets cut off in the starboard)
15:36
:c
@bobble im looking forward to it!
I'll post it top o' the hour if 'borg doesn't respond back
16:01
sashigane out, @Sciborg

Q: Sashigane: The Fives Have It

bobbleThis is an entry for Fortnightly Topic Challenge #44: Introduce a new grid deduction genre to the community This is a Sashigane puzzle, where you divide the grid into L shapes. Rules taken from Nikoli: Divide the grid into L shaped blocks - one block wide. All blocks must be L shaped. Cells wit...

@OmegaKrypton I can clarify any rules in chat if needed
thanks
i dont get "The number of marks in a block (arrows or open circles) may be 0, 1, 2, or 3."
@bobble
all of these are valid
the upper-left has 3 marks, the upper-right has 2, the bottom ones have 1, and the tiny one has 0
ah i get
thanks
16:11
it could also be just 2 arrows, except not in this puzzle
actually wait it could be just 2 arrows in this puzzle
i was confusing it with a practice puzzle i made sorry
@OmegaKrypton see ^
lol sure
am attempting to make codenames in google sheets:
i finished @bobble uploading
it was a bit easy wasn't it
16:26
nah
took some deductions
> First answer with a fully-explained logical solution path gets the checkmark.
Please, please don't post answers without logic if I've specifically requested logic
@OmegaKrypton, I will NOT give you the checkmark unless you explain your solution path. I require a logical explanation.
with words
@bobble sure im making it
@bobble please check, hope u like it
i certainly enjoyed solving this, thanks
cool :)
16:43
thanks for solving!
last puzzle of mine had someone post a no-logic answer, then update with just (terrible) pictures, and get angry at people in the comments
:'(
@bobble ah no wonder, i understand your pain, no probs :)
17:04
don't worry, that situation has been handled
did you try the sashigane?
not yet! will give it a shot
I had some really nice logic for a large area, but then I couldn't figure out a way to make the last bit unique without sacrificing some hardness
so it's easier than intended :(
just solved! the logic for the ending bit (at least for where i ended it) was pretty interesting
the top? I tried to stuff a bunch of cool logic into there
17:17
yep!
most of the rest was not super complicated but still had a pretty narrow solve path, so that was fun
in general, my idea was you start at the middle and then work up either side, and end at the top.
yeah, that was roughly what happened for me
happy you like it!
@bobble same for me, loved the logic at the top right
thanks for the puzzle! it was neat
17:21
yeah! was fun
celebration

@bobble Quick help? I just finished my physics test and I was unsure about my choices for two of the answers
sure I just finished a thing
meet in Grove?
21:31
ok i think i finally have the c4
the def is ", perhaps"
and its punctua(-l) + ti< + on
that's sneaky!
@oAlt ^
sneaky indeed

1 hour later…
22:39
athin! you have the Duck!
Anddddd finally, it's @jafe 's turn for the C4!
Andd complain time
AH, "correct enumerartion" should've been PUNCTUATION MARK?
Because to be technical, I did not clue PUNCTUATION, but PUNCTUATION MARK.
yeahhhh
22:50
(also anyone up for codenames?)
6 hours ago, by matt
am attempting to make codenames in google sheets:
@bobble In a bit
(not me... yet)
@bobble I was a bit panicked but I think I'm good on my grades actually
yay!
22:55
I forgot that each question is like 2(?) points and I get a point for trying to answer it
And FRQ is worth like... 3?
Anyhow, as long as my FRQ is strong, I can't score lower than last test
Alternatively, if my teacher puts in my missing assignments, I'll be around a high B+. He doesn't give + or - though, so there's that
I have to get an A this semester to save my butt
Thankfully, A is like 89 or 89.5 so crossing fingers
Ugh, I'm so worried about Pre-Calc though
I am literally failing
lots and lots of virtual hugs
If you think it would be helpful for me (or Deus or Gareth) to walk you through homework problems, I'd be available.
It's just practice at this point
sigh
I feel like the final's going to tank my grade
Anyhow, I'll play a round of Codenames, and then I gotta go study
23:12
Aiee sorry I've been out all of today! I haven't been able to sit down at the computer until now. Do you guys need a Codenames buddy?
Awesome :D
hey mick!
Hello!
Bobble your sashigane is awesome, i'm sorry I wasn't around when it was posted - it looks like people had really neat solutions!
23:48
(forgot to say @jafe : I intended "translated" as an anagram indicator, but I guess your interpretation works equally well)
