A good cover:
A bad cover:

@AE My like rate for Modern English is probably about 30%, but I enjoyed some songs live that I didn't like the album versions of.
So all in all, yes.
@AE Yes, but the song has become a bit over done.

A E
@Donald.McLean definitely.

@AE Also not available.

A E
@Donald.McLean you're not missing out.
I'm booking a funeral into my diary for this time next week. :(
Somebody cheer me up?

I have more than 3200 songs on my iPod, but not a single version of Hallelujah.
@AE What would cheer you up? Everyone is different.

A E
5:17 PM
A joke?
I was thinking of asking if you were that don mclean but you've probably heard it a million times before.

@AE Actually no, I have not. Many people don't remember him, especially folks under the age of about 40. He is on the list of acts I've seen live though. My wife and I saw him for our 28th anniversary at the beginning of November.
@AE Most of the jokes I know are science or computer jokes.

A E
@Donald.McLean works for me.

@AE There are only 10 kinds of people, those who understand binary, and those who don't.

A E
@Donald.McLean awwww, that's an old one! :) Did make me smile though.

@AE ROTFL
A SQL query goes into a bar, walks up to two tables and asks, "Can I join you?"

A E
5:26 PM
Heh. I like that.

8 bytes walk into a bar, the bartenders asks "What will it be?"
One of them says, "Make us a double."

A E
also good!

A E
:)

A E
5:30 PM
I don't get it.
oh, this

@AE Yes, it's a musical lyric reference based joke.

A E
ah!

One interesting thing about the preponderance of memes in modern society is that if we ever met a species of aliens who spoke entirely in memes that I think we would pick up on it pretty quickly.

A E
Ah, well I don't see any difference between memes and normal language use. It's all memes to me. :)

I was thinking of an episode of Star Trek: Next Generation.

A E
5:36 PM
I don't remember that one.
Here's a good pre-internet example:

Q: Has a dead metaphor ceased to be a metaphor?

Edwin AshworthIn its simplest sense, a metaphor is a figure of speech where, essentially, a simile is ellipted to what is apparently a false statement, but as the intention is to emphasise the similarity rather than deceive, this is an accepted linguistic device. Bob is like a tiger. Bob is a tiger. ...

is that the "drama llama" people were talking about earlier?

A E
@JoeZ. I didn't mean any specific person, just the ongoing Thing (both sides).

?
I wasn't referring to the question you posted
but to the question I linked
oh, wait, you were the one who posted the drama llama
yeah, I get that it means both sides

A E
5:50 PM
You have to keep your wits about you to keep up with the drama at the moment.
We were talking about cover versions...
@Donald.McLean, this one has a permanent slot on my playlist:

@AE That's pretty good. Melody is completely new, which is very unusual for a cover.

A E
@Donald.McLean Also fun:
Not as successful IMO:

6:17 PM
I don't know. Sometimes live performances just don't translate well to recordings.

1 hour later…
7:30 PM
@AE Turns out my daughter had never heard of Me First... and she is intrigued.

A E
@Donald.McLean excellent! They're on Grooveshark (free).

Q: Puzzling.SE job ads?

A EOK, so a question was posted on Puzzling.SE which was basically a job ad from a publication which wanted someone to write puzzles for them. It was immediately deleted, presumably job ads are in breach of SE's terms. (?) But actually that - professional jobs for puzzlers - might be quite a usefu...

3 hours later…
11:11 PM
@AE Technically, the answer to this is best given as 1. If the question is actually binary, the answer states that it's a 100% chance. If the question isn't binary, the answer states that it's a 10% chance.
