Q: Experimenting with Pro Tempore elections

Jon EricsonLast spring, I ran an election on Parenting for a new moderator pro tempore. It went pretty well, so this fall we are going to extend the program to sites that have been in "beta" for years. Here's how it works: We're reaching out to moderator teams to see if they would be interested in partici...

Turns out I may have been wrong initially claiming pt mods were appointed and not elected

@RydwolfPrograms I've gone and notified like way too many people (42 + 44 + more) to shuffle their votes
Hopefully that has some impact
and your latest ping reminded me to double check if the only person i could plausibly rope into it had gotten on yet

Man I look forward to being able to change my bios weekly again

> 6 more questions with a score of 10 or more
* screams *
Just 17 votes to go, which is like...four people
Altho actually, we need a minimum of 5 unless there's some vote redistribution to the last one

3 hours later…
19:47
4 and 9 :o
Lyxal you need to pursue a career in marketing
Also if you don't get made the first moderator of the site I'm not joining :p

1 hour later…
20:56
8 votes to go!
21:11
We should only need two people now
Since the lowest voted question we have is +8
And we have 8 votes to go, so we can even lose a few from those people to non-useful destinations
22:01
We are three votes away this is not a drill
I was gonna do things today but I think instead I am going to sit here and spam reload
For historical reference we have 177 followers right now, so we will likely be leaving Definition with 177-178 followers
And just over 6000 views
Looks like we've also benefited from the Swahili proposal that just started up
@RydwolfPrograms don't tell anyone but I already have my mod nomination written and ready to go :p
@RydwolfPrograms oh this is taking a bit of self control to not get my alt and make up the last 3 votes myself :p
Ikr lol
Even worse when you have like six of them
Just shows how much of a flawed system a51 is
Yup. IMO definition and commitment should occur concurrently
Definition would be for deciding on the scope, and nothing else. No vote limit, just a minimum number of good (and possibly even bad) questions. Commitment, or maybe some sort of pre-commitment phase, would be for ensuring enough people are interested.
22:21
let the games begin

@RydwolfPrograms
it's party time
To be totally honest I did not expect us to get this far
So, to everyone who's contributed so far...fangz 🖤
22:29
i did at the beginning but then we definitely seemed kinda screwed for the last month or so
^
So 200 committers is gonna be tough, but we got 180 followers in under three months, so I think we can do this
@RydwolfPrograms you underestimate my dedication to making this work :p
It was gonna happen one way or another
(hence the reddit post last night lol)
I'll be posting to the two subs a bit later with a call to commit
22:49
I think I need to wait a bit before posting on r/programminglanguages because it hasn't even been 24 hours yet since my push for definition votes there
looks like the commitment score thing won't be an issue
Does the rep of each committer matter?
Should we try to get more rep to be able to reach beta faster?
23:05
11 committed
That's good speed
13% commitment score lol
We'll hit 100% for that in 48h
Also finally our graph is actually worth something
It'll be so nice having an objective that's actually displayed to us in useful ways
Also, everyone who followed in the first phase has just gotten an email saying the site is in commitment
Not from me, but from SE
An automated thing
I'm slightly worried about the 100 people with 200+ rep thing, since most of our volume will probably be from reddit/discord/IRL friends who aren't necessarily active on SE, but we can probably manage
and it shouldn't be too hard to get some of them active enough on some site to hit 200
Guys it looks like we're plateauing hard
We gotta get those numbers up
We hadn't had any new commits in the last minute
oh no I don't wanna die :'O
oh shit
we're done for
23:09
@RydwolfPrograms I'm not. I saw multiple high rep users + mods from other sites during definition
Fair enough yeah
@user well it was fun while it lasted
@RydwolfPrograms Voter fraud time
I'm off to go spread word on discord servers
brb
Okay I just noticed the most annoying thing
The background noise thing used for chat rooms has a giant white square that's visible on 4k monitors:
I wanna go back to 1366×768 now >:|
Ight I'm back
@RydwolfPrograms yeah we're fine
We just got someone with 100k+ network wide
There's plenty of big rep users that'll be interested
@lyxal That user has a stack-based language in case you're interested
Word has been spreadified to the cg discord
Esolang discord too?
23:17
One second
Both esoservers are now aware
Anyone wanna bet rep on how long it'll take to hit beta
I'm gonna say 2.5 months. April 21.
that sounds pretty plausible
holy shit our commitment score is already 23%
lmao SE once again with the perfectly functioning Area 51 features
Area 51 is a perfectly functioning site with no flaws and no user experience issues that can potentially impact whether site proposals get enough attention and engagement
I like how much people of approximately the same skill level's stated experience varies
23:34
Also, Web3 is still stuck on 45 followers while we're almost 10% into commitment
Take that crypto currencies
Well I logged into my old gmail account that's associated with my SE account and
tf is that pfp
LMAO
good question
Ayy I now have a PLD pfp
