> Been playing gachas for years, some minor spending nothing big, then wham! Get hit with Genshin. Loved botw, so this felt like a knockoff at first, but then it grew into its own game. And when you get the character, nothing is better than being able to actually run around as them in an open world. I look back at the times I spent money on other gachas and got a couple pngs, then the game uses chibis lol. This has definitely spoiled me. How do you guys feel about the gacha element?

@Fredy31 yep, that is a point I already talked about multiple times. They have very little space for crafting content that requires a character.
In your usual autobattle / units based gacha you can simply introduce a new debuf that no unit can remove, make new unit that manages it and force everyone to summon to be able to complete the new event.
you can't still really "force" players to the point that an healer (-> Kokomi) becomes the only option since the real time, 3d battle system gives too many options.
The only way to really make some teams much more viable than others is artificial limits like in the abyss but you can't really apply those in the open.
Otherwise you rapidly get in people complains, and currently the events are the thing that keeps the players playing.
therefore, to keep the players playing you have to produce content that can as well require skill, grind but needs to be fun no mater what character you have.
@Fredy31 that is also why I mentioned before that Genshin is clearly trying to be predatory on "sentiments"
While other games makes an unit desiderable because you need it to complete content, Genshin has to resort in "because it is your friend"
And in that way, the character story quests are just a big, glorified ads that has the purpose to get the character in your head.
