I was just coming to ask about that actually.
I think the editor is trying to add more details to the question to make it less broad. That's what the %s are for.
I wasn't exactly sure about it and I probably should have skipped it.

The %'s are supposed to be there?

As in <insert encryption type here>

Well... that's weird :P

It is, which is why I probably should have skipped it. Those thing should be discussed in comments, not in the post. Fail on my part.
btw, this is in the queue as "unclear". It isn't unclear, but is it something we really want to recommend for?
@Gilles Opinion please --^
Someone flagged this for reopening. Until it is edited to address what features you need this is not a well written question so I for one am not re-opening it. @Dirty-flow I'll propose an edit with some blanks to be filled it that will make it better and possiby reopenable. — Nick - BriarMoon Design 53 mins ago

I just removed his edit, and then saw this.

Heh, noticed :P
Yay for race conditions!

so I roll back to roll back again facepalm.
I need to eat something.. goes off to eat something

@Seth no, leave it alone
let the author sort it out

Can you be more specific?
Reject edit, or approve edit?

@Seth it was unclear, I chatted with the author and I'm satisfied with the question now so I retracted my close vote
@Seth just stop doing anything to that question

@Gilles Right. I already decided that :P
Got a link to your convo? 'cause I still think it is too broad.

@KnightOfNi it could be, but it's incomplete

Q: What should I put on my children's Nexus 7 to stop them finding pornography?

ChenmunkaI wish to encourage my children (aged 12 & 10) to use their Nexus 7 tablet (Android KitKat) as widely as possible. However, I would prefer them not to misuse the privilege. I wish to block access to: Pornography Buying random stuff on my credit card Antisocial websites (from some public black...

My first reaction when I saw the title was “it's what you shouldn't put: don't put pornography”

back, with focus.
I'm starting to think we should close this as too broad after all. Do we have a meta Q about defining too broad? I don't remember seeing one.

@Undo It integrated parts of comments. Though I wondered where the last sentence was coming from.
But as @Seth, I was sitting right between "approve" and "skip".

@Izzy Well I'm kinda glad I wasn't the only one confused by that.

@Seth not specifically, we have several about question quality, and one about that question in particular

@Seth So am I! I've hit the button, and then thought: Umm... Wrong one? As you said, I should have skipped it as well.

Already done.

Me too.
(oops, not an answer... #D)

@Gilles Maybe we need one to define what makes a question too broad? I suppose we can't allow questions where almost every program in it's class goes.. and yet...

@Seth you can't really define “too broad” by the number of answers, otherwise people complain “but I couldn't know, don't close my question because of what I didn't know” (which is stupid, but has to be fought) or “then leave the question open and close it only after it gathers too many answers” (which is also stupid, and harder to refute)
nonetheless, yes, that's the basic idea
I suggest a meta thread “when is a question too broad”

Yes, all I'm saying is, that question did specify what he wanted but the problem is that almost every IDE matches those.. Is that OK?
@Gilles good idea.

Q: How to show our homework

ChenmunkaAll SE sites like questioners to have done a little homework before asking a question. I take it that this site is no different. So questioners should have looked for a piece of software to meet their needs. I see several questions like "Is there something like x only with feature Y?", which a...

@Gilles I guess it comes down to this: Do we delete answers that are:
a: Just link, don't explain anything about the product
b: don't meet the requirements of the OP
I keep coming back to the fact that he specifically asked for 4 specific requirements...

Well, to be honest, if the answer doesn't meet the requirements, it doesn't answer the question

Right, so do we delete those?

I think we should

I agree.

but that needs a meta post
I guess

10:27 PM
yeah.. okay.

@Seth that's something we need to decide on, preferably before the start of the public beta
I was going to write a meta post or two on the subject, but if you feel ready to write them, please go ahead

@Seth That one we had in a meta discussion lately. A good practice for those is to first add a comment asking the OP doing that (Gilles had a good template for this), and if he doesn't, we can still delete it (or edit it ourselves, if we feel like).
@Seth That's were voting should kick in.

Q: Should tags for specific software products be permitted?

IzzyI've just encountered the tag lightroom. The question using it makes pretty clear what it stands for: Alternative to Adobe Photoshop Lightroom? My point here is: Should we support tags for a specific product? Or should we rather remove them from their questions, so they get cleaned up by the aut...
