Isn't Squid the wrong solution for that problem? I'd think a routing protocol like OSPF would be better.

If you're bypassing ip-based rate limiting Squid could be a good way of doing it

@Adrian We do application-level routing with Microsoft TMG. Requests for certain domain names are routed through seperate gateways; but it's based solely on hostname

@Ahsan What type of instance was it? Depending on the settings, stopping (shutting down) an instance can terminate it. If you don't see an EBS volume you may be in trouble...

@DennisKaarsemaker Kernel panics don't "stop" the instance. By default a stopped instance will stay around. It can however be set up to auto-terminate on stop.

Which is typical of auto-scaling setups, for example.

Spot instances are unique though ...if you shut them down, they go poof

@Ahsan If you have access you can spin up another instance with that volume. If you don't have access you'll have to wait.

If you don't know how to start an instance, wait. :-)

I built our auto-build system here, boot == build. And I made sure to put in at least 3 safeguars agains reboot == rebuild :)

'cause it's no fun to reboot for a kernel upgrade and then wait for a rebuild :)

@Travis If you're using SSO auth then it's outside my knowledge ...we don't use that here so I can't mess with it :(
