@pauska It was actually really cute. Most of the time the standard binaries were exactly BSD code. The real fun was when they used either outdated or incomplete man pages.
I got in the habit of looking up the BSD man page online rather than using the ones installed on the system. Often the most useful options were otherwise un- or incorrectly documented.

in all seriousness, there is an emotional appeal you get from the well made bits of hardware like the xoom and the ipad2 that you just don't get from looking at them. You have to pick one up to appreciate it. And then you're trapped...
I got an ipad 2 on day one but I can't say I really notice the difference between it and a v1 - the camera is nice enough I guess but the performance gain is barely worth the effort
@RobertMoir I like the reference stuff. I have a Nexus One and I love anything I can just type fastboot oem unlock and start messing around with bootloaders and mods. Xoom is like that.
yeah i used to be like that for phones, use to be active on the XDA developers website and all
then i realised i just wanted a phone that worked
but i was really tempted by the xoom, I actually wondered if it was worth making a point of getting an android tablet just to keep my eye on that and mix things up compared to my iphone. I think if the xoom had more native apps then I might have got it... or at least reduced the decision to flipping a coin to choose

@SmallClanger, i would think so. Restarting the modem should be sufficient enough test. Yet, they want me to disconnect it from the PIX, connect it to a PC, install the DSL software and try to connect.

It also helped that I moved into my own place. I was living with one of my best friends before and he smokes like a chimney, which also makes it impossible to quit.
@MarkM That is true. I'm finding now that I'm not enjoying the smell of cigarette smoke anymore (which is a good thing, as it makes me not want to smoke). I still love me some hookah though.
I gave up smoking 10 years ago and before that didin't smoke in my car for many years but I still occasionally find myself reaching for a pack of fags when I go through a particular set of traffic lights as that was where I and a coworker had our last cigarette before getting to work.
@Holocryptic Heard good things about Chantix. The gum worked for me a couple times, too. It's mostly about changing your routine, though. Do things in a different order, or change them completely. Drive with the windows closed, take breaks at different times, eat lunch somewhere else, et cetera.
@Hyppy Like I said, I don't feel the need to "go out and have a smoke" per se. But I do feel the chemical withdrawals. Less now than before. It's becoming more manageable. The patches have really helped. But they help more when you remember to put them on in the morning. @MarkM Heh.
@Holocryptic The suicide risk part was fairly well refuted, but since a slightly increase risk was found in a single study during clinicals, they have to say that. It's the same reason why you see all the 50 side effects noted on every pharm commercial. The hard part is distinguishing the truly "common" ones
The beard thing is a public event, anyone can show up. Usually after it ends a bunch of us hang around and continue drinking way later than someone should for a Sunday night.
